Storyline

Former insurance claims investigator Nathan Ford heads a team of former top-criminals. They handle 'unorthodox' cases of people unlikely to get their dues through regular channels and legal procedures. That often involves stinging or otherwise scamming criminals. Nate's team is altered at times, and his professional as well as personal past repeatedly seems to catch up. Written by KGF Vissers

Trivia

There are several references throughout the show to Doctor Who (2005). In "The Bank Shot Job," Hardison expresses his frustration at the amount of time it took him to torrent the latest episode of Doctor Who. In "The Mile High Job," the aliases given are all references to Doctor Who; Nate's aliases are Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy and Tom Baker who are actors that all portrayed the Doctor. Sophie's alias is Sarah Jane Baker, a reference to Sarah Jane Smith who was one of the Doctor's companions in the classic series. In "The 12-Step Job", Nate again uses the alias Tom Baker, while Parker uses Rose, the name of another one of the Doctor's companions. In "The Three-Card Monty Job," Hardison and Eliot assume the aliases Detective Moffat and Detective Davies. Steven Moffat and Russell T Davies are two of the executive producers and head writers of the rebooted Doctor Who series. In "The Radio Job," when Parker is theorizing about how Nate's dad went back in time to 1963, a version of the 1960s Doctor Who theme plays in the cutaway scene; 1963 is the year that the original Doctor Who series began. Just after the cutaway scene in the same episode, Parker points to Hardison's bow tie and asks what he's wearing. Hardison answers, "It's a bow tie, bow ties are cool," which is a catch phrase of the 11th incarnation of the Doctor. In the second part of the season 5 summer finale, "The Frame Up Job," Sophie and Jim Sterling go by the aliases "Agent Tennant" and "Agent Smith" which are references to actors David Tennant and Matt Smith who play the 10th and 11th incarnations of the Doctor respectively. Sophie also says "Spoilers!" which is a catchphrase of Doctor Who character River Song. In "The White Rabbit Job," Sophie refers to herself as Sally Sparrow, a character featured in the Doctor Who episode "Blink." In the season five finale and overall series finale, Parker uses the alias Detective Tennant, again a reference to actor David Tennant, the 10th incarnation of the Doctor. See more »

Leverage gets your dose of white hat-black hat conman every week
23 June 2008 | by (Utrecht) – See all my reviews

Leverage might after a first show look like a series replica of Oceans Eleven with even the same generic music attached to some scenes, it fares deeper into a storyline you might expect being left on the cutting room floor of that same movie. Revenge being a large element of the series and changing plots, schemes and situations putting a viewer on the wrong foot this show delivers what all the polish and high-speed actors in forenamed picture couldn't actually deliver: credibility!

Many TV fans were loving a show like Thief (2006) but for the big audience that's called TV this is too grimy and realistic. Don't expect somebody to get actually hurt in "Leverage". The grimy and therefor risky aspect of the show has been rooted out carefully and in comes a storyline that could have been a "A-team" episode. Maybe halfway the season Colonel Decker will start chasing the headliners of this show but until then it's a risk-free show that won't be canceled.

Agreed, whoever thought of this format was far from a genius (the genius invented "Thief 2006") but he'll have a job for that much longer mixing Oceans Eleven, Thief and the A-team together in a show that doesn't offend, hurt, kill or mame people and yet stays funny and interesting to watch.

Leverage is a good TV-show among other good TV-shows but will eventually wind up in decay like other good TV-shows will. In one more season it will be more boring to watch then the new episode of Prison Break. Maybe it will generate the same cult status and devotion with viewers they will keep watching and it survives 2 seasons more. I hope so since this quiche of TV-shows is the most entertaining and relaxing show i've seen this year...

9/10 (won't last 2 seasons)

P.S A delight to see Gina Bellman again after a brilliant role in Coupling. She's a under-appreciated actress if u ask me.
