Timothy Hutton's role in Leverage: Redemption was written out due to serious rape allegations against him. Leverage: Redemption continued successfully without Nate Ford, focusing on other key characters from the original series. Hutton is in a legal battle with the studio for $3 million and has had limited acting roles post-controversy, including a minor role in Women of the Movement.
Contains discussion of sexual assault allegations and subsequent legal proceedings.
Leverage returned in 2021 with the revival Leverage: Redemption, but Timothy Hutton's Nate Ford was missing. 2008's Leverage ran for five seasons and united a band of criminals under Nate’s leadership to con the wealthy and corrupt. Although the team first formed as a way for Nate to get revenge on his old company for his son’s death, Leverage quickly grew beyond his vendetta, positioning the revival to continue without him after recent allegations made Tim Hutton’s continued role impossible.

Crime drama shows, whether true crimes or fiction, are all the rage right now. And a subgenre of that, the heist drama, is a little less loved but brilliant if done right. Films like Ocean's 11 or Army Of Thieves, or thieving series like Leverage, Money Heist, and Lupin. If you love a good caper story, there's no doubt that you've seen the ultimate heist show: White Collar. The incredible triple threat of thievery, Neil Caffrey (Matt Bomer), can forge, steal, and charm his way out of any situation. White Collar is like this blend of crime drama with a hint of comedy and is filled to the brim with mind-bending genius heists who always have the audience guessing what will happen next, which gives audiences this addicting concoction that always keeps us wanting more. But did you know his character was based on the notorious forger and con man Frank Abagnale Jr.?...

Keith Giffen, known both as a comic book writer and artist whose characters have appeared in live-action franchises from Marvel and DC Comics, has died. He was 70 years old and had worked in comics since 1976.

Actor Jonathan Frakes' directorial debut on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was for the third season episode "The Offspring", the episode where Data (Brent Spiner) builds his own android daughter (Hallie Todd). One might note that Frakes' character, Commander Riker, didn't appear much in that episode. This kicked off a full-blown directorial career for Frakes that hasn't slowed since. Frakes directed eight episodes of "NextGen" in total, as well as the feature films "Star Trek: First Contact" (1996) and "Star Trek: Insurrection" (1998).
Frakes would go on to direct "Thunderbirds" and "Clockstoppers," and enter a prolific career helming episodes of high-profile TV shows like "Leverage," "NCIS: Los Angeles," "Burn Notice," and "The Librarians." He also stayed within the Trek family over the years, directing episodes of "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Discovery," "Picard," and the notable crossover between "Strange New Worlds" and "Lower Decks." K-dramas have successfully adapted popular US shows, drawing in a larger audience by incorporating known stories and changing plotlines, cinematography, and actors. Some K-drama adaptations, like "18 Again" and "Designated Survivor: 60 Days," have been praised for being as good as or even better than the original US versions. Strong storylines, visuals, and acting contribute to their success. The K-drama adaptations of "Romance Is A Bonus Book," "Little Women," "Suits," "Woori The Virgin," and "Leverage" also received positive feedback, with changes to characters, settings, and cultural contexts making them engaging and enjoyable.
With the rising popularity of K-dramas, many adaptations from U.S. shows exist that are just as good, if not better, than the original. Korean media has gained more fans in recent years, meaning a surge in the number of TV shows produced. Some K-dramas have used beloved US media as source material or inspiration. It was announced back in March of 2023 that the upcoming fifth season of "Star Trek: Discovery" would be its last. This marks the end of an era, as Paramout+ -- back when it was called CBS All Access -- launched with the premiere of "Discovery" in 2017. Meanwhile, the third and final season of "Star Trek: Picard" wrapped earlier this year, "Star Trek: Prodigy" will end after its upcoming second season, and the extant episodes have been pulled from the service entirely. The glut of new "Star Trek" is now seemingly at an end.
"Discovery" has struggled its whole life. It infamously abandoned the traditional episodic structure of "Star Trek," skewing toward the more popular, modern full-season story arcs. Perhaps you’ve heard but it’s been a very Suits summer.
Despite airing its final episode in September 2019, USA Network’s legal procedural Suits has been the talk of the streaming world ever since its first eight seasons arrived to Netflix on June 17. All nine seasons have been streaming on Peacock for far longer but Netflix, as the biggest streaming service, tends to drive the most attention. Per Nielsen, Suits has already broken its own streaming record with 3.7 billion minutes viewed the first week of July and viewership intensity doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
The potential reasons for Suits‘ surge in popularity are manyfold. While the dual WGA and Sga strikes shouldn’t have led to an extended pause in summer content in theory, some studios have juggled their schedules a bit to weather the storm for the fall season.
Additionally, Suits‘ basic cable format...

When Almost Paradise premiered, it was a breath of fresh air in the action genre -- but that was years ago. The series survived a lengthy hiatus, during which it moved from WGN to Amazon Freevee and is finally back for its second season. Like its hero Alex Walker, the series has overcome every hurdle without missing a step. Season 2 has all of the excitement, banter, and beautiful scenery that make this an adventure unlike any other.
Christian Kane's character Alex is the heart and soul of the show. His fresh start in the Philippines has turned out to be not quite so peaceful, but at the same time, it's been exactly what Alex didn't know he was looking for. Cbr spoke to Christian about finally being able to show audiences what's next for Alex and what's so special about Almost Paradise...

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers from all of Almost Paradise Season 2.] “Let’s go steal…” Those are three words that every Leverage fan knows well but has never heard come out of Christian Kane‘s mouth — until his other Freevee series, Almost Paradise. In Season 2 (all 10 episodes of which are now available to stream), there are a few things that will be very familiar to Leverage (and Redemption) fans, from flashbacks with the stars in different roles to a casino heist, especially considering the common threads of Kane and executive producer Dean Devlin. “We didn’t really try to remind people of Leverage. We actually stole from Leverage,” Kane told TV Insider with a laugh. “Dean Devlin got his hands on that one, and he said, ‘Nope, this is Leverage, and we’re just going to make it Leverage.‘ And it was so much fun.” The star then went ...

After the Leverage: Redemption Season 2 finale, executive producer Dean Devlin told us that Christian Kane would say that his character, hitter Eliot Spencer, could never be redeemed. He was right. While the last episode we saw of the Freevee series (in January) saw grifter Sophie (Gina Bellman) face her past and let go of her guilt, Eliot didn’t think he’d ever get to that point, not with what he’s done. And Kane agrees. When TV Insider spoke with Kane recently, we asked him about that, the future of the show (it has yet to be renewed or canceled), and much more. Is there any word on a Season 3 of Leverage: Redemption? Christian Kane: We have no idea. The writers’ strike has really put us — there’s nothing anybody can do right now, you know what I mean? Everybody’s hands are sort of tied with this thing.

Though it was heavily hyped up to hierarchy-changing proportions, the 2022 movie Black Adam disappointed many. Its failure can likely be seen as the final straw that saw the DC Extended Universe now being rebooted to become the DC Universe. Nevertheless, one of the movie's actors is looking to potentially return to DC movies, though he might be gunning for the wrong hero.
Aldis Hodge portrayed Carter Hall/Hawkman in Black Adam, and he's now looking to possibly reprise the role in future films. That likely won't happen, however, which could be for the best. Aldis Hodge would work better as another DC hero, especially since Hawkman needs a bit of a redux in live action. Here's how he could instead bring life to Mr. Terrific, one of James Gunn's DC favorites.

She is perhaps the most mysterious and enigmatic member of the team, so not much is known about Parker's Leverage backstory. Like all the Leverage characters - her fellow criminals especially - information about Parker's life is mostly revealed in bits and pieces throughout the run of the show, often via flashbacks. Unlike most of the characters, however, there aren't many episodes dedicated to revealing more about her life before joining the Leverage team. Plus, only one person from Parker's past before Leverage has ever appeared.
Parker is particularly cagey about her life before Leverage, only telling the rest of the team certain details when they become relevant. For example, she doesn't mention that she had a sibling until Leverage season 2, episode 12, "The Future Job," when it's revealed by a fake psychic. She also doesn't bring up her life as a car thief until her skills are needed in...

Leverage season 1 should be watched in a different order. The crime show follows Nate Ford and his team of criminals as they try to be "good guys," mostly taking down rich executives to help working-class people. Leverage premiered on TNT in 2008 and the original series ran for five seasons into 2012, then returned in 2021 as Leverage: Redemption on Freevee. However, while the series' original order certainly made an impact, it's actually not the best way to enjoy the show.
Leverage season 1 is the shortest season of the show with 13 episodes, starting with "The Nigerian Job" and ending with "The Second David Job." Leverage and Leverage: Redemption can mostly be watched in any order. Each season has its own overarching plot and big bad, but they're mostly just relevant in the finales. Yet, Leverage season 1 has some minor inconsistencies, like a brief gag about two characters who haven't been introduced yet.

"The Rashomon Job" in Leverage has a hidden meaning that adds an extra layer to the series. This captivating episode showcases the power of storytelling through multiple perspectives. The plot opens with the Leverage team in a heated debate over the details of a past heist, which they all participated in before they met, deviating from the show's typical format. Leverage usually begins by introducing a victim of someone wealthy or powerful. The team, led by Nathan Ford, then manipulates their targets into believing their own version of reality, ultimately resulting in the target paying restitution or facing justice for their wrongdoing.
Nate and the Leverage team use their combined talents to outwit and bring down immoral influential people. With a Robin Hood-like mission, the Leverage team works to even the score for those victimized by the unjust actions of the wealthy and corrupt. As such, The Rashoman Job episode...

Parker, the thief of the Leverage crew, became the show's best character in season 4. The characters in Leverage all experience some kind of interesting personal journey but Parker's is one of the best. The one-named thief joins the eclectic Leverage crew for the first case and decides to join them permanently. That is an unusual move for her, as she insists she works best alone. However, grifting for the greater good with Nate, Sophie, Eliot, and especially Hardison changes Parker's mind.
Parker begins the series barely able to hold a friendly, natural conversation with the Leverage crew, let alone strangers. A former insurance investigator, Nate Ford, usually leads the Leverage team, but one episode flips this team dynamic. Leverage is a popular heist series that follows a team of skilled criminals who use their expertise to help people who powerful individuals or corporations have wronged. However, there is one fan-favorite episode where the dynamic is flipped, and someone else takes charge. This shift in power allows the writers to explore new character dynamics and storylines, allowing the other team members, including Eliot, Hardison, and Parker, to showcase their skills and personalities in new ways.
The episode also predicts future leadership changes within the team, particularly for Leverage's favorite contradiction, Sophie. This shift in leadership also helps the team to build trust and find new ways to work together. By putting someone else in charge, the team members are forced to rely on each other in new ways and adapt to different leadership styles.

Jonathan Frakes has always seen "Star Trek" as an action/adventure franchise, as he once admitted during a behind-the-scenes interview for "Star Trek: First Contact," which he directed. As the man who played Cmdr. William Riker on seven seasons of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," it makes logical sense that he would see things that way. Riker was a man of action, always in charge of away missions, and a jocular cowboy when in command. This persona would be played with to great effect decades later on "Star Trek: Lower Decks," wherein Riker was finally depicted working as a starship captain — a long-sought position — and laughing heartily as he plunged his crew into danger.
As an actor, Frakes began his career in the late 1970s, appearing on the soap opera "The Doctors." As a director, Frakes started working on episodes of NextGen during its third season, helming the episode "The Offspring.

There are many inconsistent characters in Leverage, but Sophie is the show's biggest contradiction. Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman) is an intriguing British grifter. Sophie is charming, confident, and skilled at deception, yet her true identity remains a mystery. Despite this, she's a vital part of the team, using her acting skills to play various roles to help clients. In Leverage: Redemption, Sophie takes over as team leader, bringing sophistication and strategy to operations. Fans were surprised by this development, but it shows her growth and ability to adapt. Sophie's enigmatic nature and relationships with Nate and Parker are explored throughout the series, making her a complex and dynamic character.

If you want to attract a younger audience, you have to watch what they watch. Not what you think they are watching, says producer Dean Devlin, best known for “Independence Day” and “Stargate.” But he never designs his shows for one market.
“It’s no longer all about gender or age demographic. If you go to a sci-fi convention, they are not just kids, they are not just older people. It’s everybody!”
At Berlinale Series Market Selects, which runs as part of the European Film Market in Berlin, with his latest show, sci-fi series “The Ark,” Devlin continues to pay homage to the kind of stories he loved as a child, from Douglas Trumbull’s “Silent Running” to “The Omega Man.”
“I don’t pay any attention to trends. When we did ‘Stargate,’ every studio in Hollywood said that science fiction was dead. And then we had a hit,...

Leverage: Redemption has two successful seasons, and it's essential to have a third season to provide the characters with a fitting farewell. Fans have been clamoring for a revival series for years, but it was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the series finally aired, and fans eagerly welcomed it, considering the original Leverage as a cult classic. However, with such a devoted fan base, Leverage: Redemption's bar is set high. The show must maintain the characters' authenticity and the original series' concept without relying excessively on nostalgia.
The most challenging aspect of the story for Leverage: Redemption will be its series finale. It must tie up all loose ends entirely to serve as a good and fulfilling ending for the franchise. A certain level of ambiguity is necessary, such as viewers not knowing Sophie Devereaux's real name. However, a proper finale needs actual closure for the main characters.

Aldis Hodge reprises his role as hacker Alec Hardison in Leverage’s revival, Leverage: Redemption, but the Hardison Leverage character left the team early in the season – why? Since Leverage ended and Nate and Sophie retired, Hardison, Parker, and Eliot have been running Leverage International, expanding the team’s mission of fleecing the rich and powerful on a global scale. Sophie then comes out of retirement for Leverage: Redemption after the death of Timothy Hutton's Nate. Parker and Eliot return to the old team with her, but Hardison finds himself indispensable to their international work. After only one con, Hardison resumes traveling around the world, and his foster sister Breanna Casey steps into his shoes as the main hacker on the crew.
As it turns out, the Hardison Leverage character had to be written off the show early on because of the demands of Aldis Hodge’s increasingly busy schedule.
