Overall bad in all aspects
abhishek-150-85314024 August 2021
Bad acting, direction and story line. I liked the conceptual freshness, hence the 4 stars. However, that was quickly and irreversibly eroded by what was otherwise a pain to watch.

Fresh concept, mediocre execution!
nidhunmoviebuff23 August 2021
Yet another thriller offering from the super-talented Aishwarya Rajesh, 'Bhoomika' is a film with its heart in the right place but in trying to do too many things, director Rathindran Prasad looses his way and in turn. Looses the audience as well.

Our up and coming lady superstar plays the role of a child psychologist, who moves into an eerie boarding school which she along with her developer husband hopes to turn into eco villas. There, they encounter a series of supernatural incidents and how the motley crew of scared youngsters tackle these forms the rest of the plot.

While there are many sequences that provide jump scares, Aishwarya is let down by a largely mediocre supporting cast with Madhuri, Surya Ganapathy and Ayaan Abhishek's performances being largely forgettable.

The ever dependable Pavel Navageethan makes a strong impression in a short role while Avantika Vandanapu excels in playing an autistic teenager with depth and nuance.

In trying to deliver a different horror experience, the director meanders unconvincingly into techno-horror and ecological horror elements, without providing sufficient intrigue get the audiences to buy into the plotline at any point.

While the idea and the theme were on point, sadly, the execution wasn't. Even an earnest performance from Aishwarya Rajesh cant save this mediocre effort.

Not recommended!

Poorly executed film!!
sriramthestranger4 September 2021
The film is too slow and boring to watch. The camera shifts from paranormal mode to scenary, its not at all engaging. The last scenes look forced and there seems to be narrator throughout the movie to explain what is happening. Not worth your time!

Stay away
skiruthika-6023126 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The core of the story feels like reading some recent days watsapp forwards that says about how we are treating our environment and what adverse effects it is bringing back in return, which actually didn't go well with the poor screenplay and ineffective direction. If you are looking for some real horror, thriller movie, then please stay away from this one. There's nothing scary or there's nothing logical. When the so called ghost can kill someone who's involved in the deal with a simple accident, why is it playing hide and seek with the main characters involved in the deal?? Ennada unga logic??!!?!

Ignore the positive reviews. You know where they are from !
BlackJack_8824 August 2021
This is a dud. Why every cr@p from tamil cinema end up in Netflix.

Firstly what does Aishwarya Rajesh in the poster dressed up in leaves has to do with this film. The title role is for someone else. Aishwarya rajesh acted terribly in a support role in this film. Showing her in the poster was pure marketing gimmick.

Direction was as amateurish as it can be. Actors were so pathetic that they simply either over act or fail miserably.

The cinematographer was so pathetic that even during a power cut scene in the film the background sparkles by white light. The brilliant DOP even captured the white light source in a frame.

Music is another annoying aspect of this already pathetic film. The Composer started the music in the 1st frame and never ended even during the end credits.

The story is trash. Usual horror elements/plot/backstory format. The director in-between tries to push some information into our mind but due to lacklustre screenplay we are unable to tolerate even a single scene.

Pure garbage with plenty of overacting.
nishkh24 August 2021
Not really a horror movie. Every single character in this movie is annoying and over acts, especially the main guy and his sister. This makes it very difficult to enjoy the movie. You can watch it for the beautiful scenery at the beginning, but don't bother after that.

Movie restored for humankind and nature
PavanKV24 August 2021
Atypical, beating the stereotype movie that will teach humans a big lesson on restoration. First half is full of mystery, second half forms the crux and provides a compelling ending taking audience a 360 degree spin on science and nature. This movie is way ahead of it's time and much needed for this current generation, and a smack on humankind as a reminder to take care of the most important THING!

vp-5385624 August 2021
There are very few movies nowadays those can surprise you, but this movie is just amazing as how it keeps you guessing and entertains you as well; with a not so forced message.

Environment can save itself, but can we save ourselves from environment????

A true disappointment
Bhomiq26 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Yet another bad Indian horror movie to add to the list. Just because this is the first Indian eco thriller to have been made doesn't mean this was a good idea in any way. Whoever made this script needs to take additional courses for how to write. Again, I won't waste time telling people how awful this movie was (which it was like man, apparently the Earth has a brain and is communicating with them/'getting revenge' via phones and ordering meteors and extinctions cos why not like soooo creative, someone give this scriptwriter an award already geez) but I'm sorry because I lied and I just have to say it: this was utterly awful.

Literally makes no sense whatsoever with the whole restoring ecological balance thing (only in the one place? How does that work if she's supposedly representing/is the 'Earth'? Shouldn't she be going around killing every construction worker around? And if it were only construction workers like she said then how come everyone in that town disappeared? Again makes no sense. I'll have to ask the Earth-which so obviously gave me life and I just plopped here out of nowhere-for the answers according to this movie so guess I just gotta wait for my phone to text me or go to an abandoned house so it can take revenge on me for LIVING). There is no substance to the movie that it makes it or the message memorable nor are the characters relatable or likeable because all the movie relies on is the end 'twist' which isn't a twist at all. From that point on, this movie is a disappointment. If it wasn't an 'eco thriller' and had a different storyline (done well of course) perhaps it would have been better but I have no hope for Indian horror movies at this point.

Terrible

What is it with spirits in 2021 becoming high tech and communicating via smartphones?? The plot of this movie was ridiculous, and the acting made it worse. I was laughing towards the end at some of it.

What I've been saying!
kwihui21 June 2023
Well done film, not frightening at all.

What is to be expected when it is only saying what many of us has been saying to others about what we, humans, have done to the natural world.

I am glad about what the film makers are focusing on, not just the violence and killing each other and not caring about the home's health which all of us are living and benefiting from.

Take care of the earth and the natural world it will take care of you. It's been so for millions of years, after all. Had she not?

It's the so called industrial development and progress that they have failed to see the big picture!

As in the film, our planet is also a living breathing and functioning entity, in my opinion, therefore we must care for her as she cares of us.

I lack the eloquence to communicate well but you got the gist of it!

Care for the Planet as we take care of our own homes. She is our home after all!

Just a B-grade horror movie with bad acting
msknorton23 August 2021
I watched this movie with high expectations. But somehow this is just a B grade horror movie. The role of Aditi was not clear in this movie. In the beginning she is shown to be a scared person, but out of sudden she is brave enough to walk alone outside in the dark. And throughout the movie, felt like the actors forgot they are in a horror movie, merely acting because they are paid for it. Aishwarya Rajesh being one of the best Tamil actress hope she will choose a better script movie next time.

An Elegantly Shot Horror Thriller With In-Your-Face Messaging !!!
cs_rahul_prasad28 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Boomika begins with an accident that happens near Nagapattinam. A man is speaking to his pregnant wife over phone when boom, a truck hits his car and he dies. The action then shifts to Pudhumandhu village in Ooty, where we are introduced to the principal players. Gautham (Vidhu) is at the hill station with his psychologist wife Samyuktha (Aishwarya Rajesh) and son Sidhu to begin work on a real-estate project for a minister. They are joined by his friend Gayathri (Surya Ganapathy), an architect who Gautham has invited to help out with his project, and Arthi (Madhuri), his sister. They go to his palatial mansion in a remote estate, where, very soon, eerie things begin to happen. Like, dead people start texting them, a mobile phone works without a battery, a perfectly working car refuses to start, wild dogs attack them and so on. What's happening around them? Who's the mysterious person texting them from the great beyond? And what do they want?

More than a horror thriller, Boomika is an eco-fable that isn't coy about its in-your-face messaging - be nice to Mother Earth or else.... Rathindran Prasad is so fixated with delivering this message that he stumbles in the storytelling. The film is elegantly shot (the cinematographer Roberto Zazzara frames the action cleanly) and the production design feels chic. But while there is stateliness in the visuals, the narrative is anything but that. One reason for this is that the writing of the characters is too simplistic and one-note - a level-headed person, a modern young woman, a scaredy-cat, a devious man, a suspicious-looking help.... Naturally, the performances hardly register. They all feel very much functional, nothing more nothing else. In fact, you even wonder what drew the usually reliable Aishwarya Rajesh to a role that is quite generic.

The film is also overly dependent on its score to make us feel. Prithvi Chandrashekar's insistent score tries too hard to instil fear in us; in fact, even before we are shown something thrilling, the music begins to foreshadow it robbing the element of surprise from the scenes. It keeps throwing fancy stuff like Gaia Hypothesis and PT Extinction, and while these are interesting at a conceptual level, we never find the scenes as involving because the characters seem distant. And after a point, it begins to resemble a feature-length PSA on environmental conservation.

Different story line
arulnachan22 August 2021
I loved the story line. Very different, I was predicting something, end of the day it was something else. And the message was very clear and bang on. Just not very satisfied with actors. Aishwarya Rajesh as always too good. The role done by Boomika she did a good job. The girl acted as architecture also good. The male lead(Aishwarya husband), and his sister, I think they didn't give any justice for the character. Just my opinion. Could have been better. The dialogue's culd have been better too, not very natural.

Not sure what the haters were expecting, but...
dwilson-208-74290030 December 2021
I really enjoyed this film. It wasn't just about scaring you. It wasn't focused on blood and gore. It wasn't just about some threat coming after everyone just because it's grumpy. It had some heart. It showed some humanity that is probably what the haters hated most. And I personally quite liked the message being told. If you actually have a soul, and have empathy for others, you will probably like this.

Not a horror movie(spoiler alert)
Missmimosa27 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I do not understand the message the director wanted to convey. I don't understand whether it's ecological or paranormal. I don't understand how justification to paranormal activities can so horribly be connected to some random unbelievable kind of death that took place.. . I understand that it is a horror movie and I cannot question the logic behind it but come on... atleast there should be a reason for becoming a so called"ghost"...If it had been a book I might have used my imagination and may well be satisfied with the message it was supposed to be getting out to public... unfortunately this is a badly produced movie and it questions my imagination!!! Intention is good..but couldn't you have just used alive human activities and alive human dialogues instead of attempting to , a failed attempt, scare away the way we treat earth!.. Who got the message? What were you trying to say through ghost that a live person couldn't say?.. I think the ghost was a cameo to convey a badly written story. I did not like it.
