In Hollywood, there are only so many really good roles for tubby male dreamboats of a certain age, and Alec Baldwin seems to be scarfing up half of them. So what's, say, Val Kilmer to do? The former Caped Crusader is thinking about ruling New Mexico, if that's what the people want. "I'm just looking for ways to be contributive," Kilmer tells the AP. "And if that ends up being where I can make a substantial contribution, then I'll run." Honestly, Val, starring as the uncredited voice of the car in Knight Rider is more than most people contribute to the good of society –- but if you decide to take on the additional challenge of governing a state, we wish you the best of luck!

It.s back to basics for NBC's "Knight Rider." In an effort to breathe new life into the show, the network decided that they needed to get back to what made the original .Knight Rider. series work: the idea that one man could make a difference. Well, one man and his car. That's not new ... but it's still debatable on if NBC is going to even give the show a chance. Though the show was just picked up for a full 22-episode season in October, it only took until November for NBC to see that the show wasn.t working out as well as expected. Come December, the show was reduced to 17 episodes. Showrunner Gary Scott Thompson told SFX Red Alert about the changes that have been made to the show. Along with the elimination of characters played by Yancey Arias, Sydney Tamiia Poitier and Bruce Davison, ...

Inside sources confirm that NBC has decided not to order any more episodes of Knight Rider this season and will close production after the cast and crew complete the 17th episode, which is filming this week. So will the show live on to see a season two? Find out... According to sources close to the series, there is no official kill order on Knight Rider, so the future of the show depends almost entirely the ratings for the remaining 10 unaired episodes. The decision on season two will come next year. As you may have heard, NBC has been working under Kitt's hood for a while now, trying to rev up the ratings. NBC's hit comedy "The Office" will get the coveted post-Super Bowl spot next year, while the new drama "Kings" will take over for "ER" on Thursday nights after the long-running medical drama airs its series finale.
The post-Bowl position is considered the most valuable piece of programming real estate on television, exposing a series to tens of millions of viewers. NBC will air a special one-hour episode of its Emmy-winning comedy after the game concludes Feb. 1.
" 'The Office' is a perfect fit for after the Super Bowl," NBC scheduling chief Mitch Metcalf said. "It's going to be a hilariously funny hour, and I think people will be in the mood to laugh after the big game."
With NBC's ratings severely depressed this fall, the Super Bowl telecast presents a valuable opportunity to bring viewers back to the network. NBC had the choice of several options for the post-Bowl spot, including launching "Kings,...

Following the announcement of full season order for NBC's "Knight Rider", the high-tech series comes with a news of some changes on its internal aspect. It has been reported that the series' three regular cast will be no longer featured on the upcoming episodes.
Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Yancey Arias, and Bruce Davison are the cast that have been dismissed from "Knight Rider" future production. The purpose behind the dismissal is being explained by the series' executive producer and showrunner, Gary Scott Thompson, as the way to bring the series closer to the original 1980s series.
Thompson said in a statement, "It's a reboot, we're moving away from the terrorist-of-the-week formula and closer to the original, making it a show about a man and his car going out and helping more regular people, everymen." Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Yancey Arias and Bruce Davison are being left at the curb as NBC orders a major retooling of its Knight Rider revival. The network has shown faith in the show, giving it a full season’s order, only to watch the ratings go into a death spiral.
"It's a reboot," executive producer/showrunner Gary Scott Thompson told The Hollywood Reporter. "We're moving away from the terrorist-of-the-week formula and closer to the original, making it a show about a man and his car going out and helping more regular people, everymen."
The series regulars were contracted for only the first 13 episodes and are not being renewed. Currently, the 15th episode is being filmed and the focus will be tightened on Mike (Justin Bruening), Sarah (Deanna Russo), Billy (Paul Campbell), Zoe (Smith Cho) and Kitt.
The series kicks off the network’s Wednesday night crime block of shows, followed by Life and Law & Order.

Kitt is getting a tune-up.
NBC's freshman drama "Knight Rider" is undergoing a major retooling, bringing it closer to the original 1980s series. Among the changes, the options of three regulars on the show -- Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Yancey Arias and Bruce Davison -- were not picked up beyond the initial 13-episode order.
"It's a reboot," "Knight" executive producer/showrunner Gary Scott Thompson said. "We're moving away from the terrorist-of-the-week formula and closer to the original, making it a show about a man and his car going out and helping more regular people, everymen."
Such a change would make "Knight" a better fit into NBC's newly rebranded crime drama Wednesday lineup alongside "Life" and "Law & Order."
The revamped "Knight" will kick off with the two-part Episodes 10-11. NBC is planning a major push, including possibly airing Episode 10 on Sunday after an NFL football game in January, with the conclusion airing the following Wednesday.

Just a week after NBC cleaned house at "Heroes," it's doing the same now with "Knight Rider." Gone are Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Yancey Arias and Bruce Davison, and here is what showrunner Gary Scott Thompson called a "reboot." "We're moving away from the terrorist-of-the-week formula and closer to the original, making it a show about a man and his car going out and helping more regular people." Poitier and Davison were a part of the original "Knight Rider" backdoor pilot that aired last spring, playing Carrie Rivai and Charles Graiman. Arias was added when the actual series started, playing Alex Torres. All three will remain through the first 13 episodes, but will not be a part of "Knight Rider's" planned mid-season retooling, a change that apparently had been in the works since ...

We recently assessed Knight Rider’s chances for survival in the cutthroat world of television and came to a conclusion that viewers must give the NBC remake a chance. In fact, our very own John Kubicek also named Knight Rider’s Five Steps for Success, which might just help the series, which has garnered poor reviews from critics. Executive producer Gary Scott Thompson also revealed the they took into consideration the original series and incorporate new characters into it, making “sure that those four characters clicked into what the new mythology was for the series.”

Last week, we talked about how the critics have been harsh in judging the NBC debuting series, Knight Rider, the remake of the 1982 series of the same name. A number of BuddyTV readers responded with mixed reactions, but an important fact to point out is that some viewers actually want to see this show regardless of what the television critics say. Meanwhile, the stars of the show recently shared their thoughts on their characters and the work they put into creating the show.

On Wednesday, NBC brought us a remake of Knight Rider, which looks like it’s in trouble after garnering only 7.3 million viewers. In fact, E! Online reports that Knight Rider's entrance may be comparable to another failed NBC remake, but much worse. If one can recall, Bionic Woman experienced little if not no success at all. With a little push from the writers strike, the show ended after seven episodes. Nonetheless, Knight Rider landed on the third spot following ABC's Dancing with the Stars, which garnered 15.6 million viewers and FOX's Bones, which yielded 9.6 million. Recently, Kristin Dos Santos of E! Online reviewed the first episode of Knight Rider. Find out what she had to say after the jump. NBC announced a 52-week primetime schedule at its early "in-front" presentation to advertisers Wednesday that included themed primetime hours.
Starting next season, 8 p.m. will be "family hour," 9 p.m. is "blockbuster hour" and 10 p.m. is the "adult themes" hour, said network co-chair Ben Silverman.
The move steps away from network's previous pledge to only schedule unscripted shows in the 8 p.m. hour, while reserving 10 p.m. for more grown-up fare.
The schedule includes long-rumored additions such as a series remake of Knight Rider and a spin-off of The Office, as well as new titles like the Christian Slater spy series My Own Worst Enemy and the King David retelling Kings starring Deadwood star Ian McShane.

The "Las Vegas" creator has been tapped to serve as executive producer/showrunner on "Knight Rider", which has been picked up to series by NBC.
Thompson will work on the show under a new two-year deal he has inked with "Rider" producer Universal Media Studios.
Thompson is joined by "Las Vegas" exec producer Matt Pyken on "Rider", a sequel to the 1980s series. The two will serve as exec producers alongside Dave Bartis and Doug Liman, who exec produced the series' two-hour backdoor pilot that aired in February. The pilot's writer, Dave Andron, will serve as a consulting producer.

NBC's "in-front" presentation to advertisers Wednesday has the industry abuzz with speculation about the network's slate. The network isn't expected to rewrite the rules of broadcasting with its unique 52-week schedule unveiling but rather stick fairly close to Fox's model of having a clearly defined split season.
The Peacock is expected to present three schedules: fall (post-Olympics through December), winter/spring (January-May) and next summer (June-August). For fall and possibly winter, four new dramas likely will be announced: Knight Rider, Kings, My Worst Enemy and The Philanthropist. The biggest guessing game is what series will get the network's coveted post-Super Bowl spot next year.
A potential surprise inclusion: Sources said fortunes have turned for bubble show Lipstick Jungle, which now is looking more likely for a renewal. And with the modestly rated Lipstick looking good for a pickup, slightly higher-rated Medium also looks likely to return next season.
Sources said NBC also is following through on its announcement to go straight to series whenever possible and is not ordering pilots.

NBC rode the "Knight Rider" TV-movie to a Sunday night primetime victory, giving the backdoor pilot a virtual lock on a spot in the network's fall schedule.
Meanwhile, Fox Sports' Daytona 500 coverage on Sunday afternoon averaged 17.8 million viewers, according to preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research. That's up 1% from last year's 17.5 milion and is the network's second-best rating for a Daytona 500 race on Fox. The top in the ratings was 2005.
But the primetime victor was "Knight Rider" (12.7 million, 5.0 rating/12 share in adults 18-49). The remake of the '80s TV series was the best 18-49 rating for a TV movie since March 2005's "Their Eyes Were Watching God". It ran over everything in its path at10 p.m., including the CBS premiere of Showtime's "Dexter" and a new episode of "Brothers & Sisters." "Knight Rider" is considered to be a backdoor pilot. With numbers like that, it's also likely a shoo-in to return as a series in the fall.

Meet the new Knight Rider.
All My Children hunk Justin Bruening is set as the lead in NBC's two-hour backdoor pilot Knight Rider, a Transformers-inspired sequel to the 1980s series, which is slated to air as a movie later in the season.
Bruening will play the son of Michael Knight, the character played by David Hasselhoff in the original series. And like father, like son, the choice of Bruening closely resembles Hasselhoff's casting a quarter-century ago.
Like Bruening, Hasselhoff was a soap star (The Young & the Restless) with few other credits when he landed Knight Rider. He was almost the same age as Bruening, who is 28.
Bruening also follows in the footsteps of fellow Children alum Josh Duhamel, who made the transition from soap actor to primetime leading man as the star of NBC's Las Vegas.
Steve Shill is set to direct and co-exec produce Rider, which was penned by Dave Andron. Doug Liman and Dave Bartis are executive producing for Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Prods.
All My Children hunk Justin Bruening is set as the lead in NBC's two-hour backdoor pilot Knight Rider, a Transformers-inspired sequel to the 1980s series, which is slated to air as a movie later in the season.

"The Kill Point" director Steve Shill is set to direct NBC's two-hour backdoor pilot "Knight Rider", a "Transformers"-inspired redo of the 1980s series starring David Hasselhoff.
Doug Liman, who is executive producing the project, had been eyed to direct it subject to availability. His feature schedule prevented him from helming the pilot, which is expected to air as a two-hour movie on NBC later this season.
Dave Andron penned the pilot script and will serve as supervising producer on "Rider". Liman and Dave Bartis are executive producing for Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Prods.
Shill most recently directed and co-executive produced Spike TV's well-received limited series "Kill Point".
He also served as director/executive producer on the Showtime drama "The Tudors", executive produced by NBC programming chief Ben Silverman and his top lieutenant Teri Weinberg.
