"In Search of...: (#4.20)"(John the Baptist)
cybersurfa22 August 2009
"From Rome to Damascus, from Flores to Sumaria, holy places are reserved for the remains of a body believed to be John the Baptist. These fragments have been worshiped for centuries. Far from Europe's civilized centers from a desert populated mostly by nomads comes a discovery which may shake the church of Rome..... A remote monastery of the Coptic Church holds a mysterious link to John the Baptist. Its monks still practice ceremonies which date back to the day of Saint John. Here never before photographed is the underground vault which concealed an amazing burial. Could isolated monks have found the real bones of John the Baptist and cast doubts on the claims of Rome?"

This episode explores the life and times of John the Baptist. Did he really exist? Did he really commune with God? The In Search Of series offers possible explanations to these questions...

Private investigation episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Private investigation episode. The Missing Heir introduction has the background of lovey San Francisco, which narration describes as a finical hub. The viewer learns about the monetary system, and unclaimed wealth. In Search investigates unclaimed stock option worth 3 million (1980). The history of the stock is traced. A cross country investigation of last names, rumors, and locations across the U S to find leads on the missing heir. A Mike Hammer meets In Search of episode. Interesting in a America's most wanted way. Did not find the most compelling episode of the series. There is mystery. A change of style for In Search of. Okay, but not memorable. Six out of ten.

The Missing Heir
AaronCapenBanner28 September 2014
Unique episode in the series focuses on the attempts to track down the owner of a stock certificate, in this case numbered 390, which was then(1980)worth 3.2 million dollars. It was traced to a man named De Lamar, but he proves to be most elusive, as the "In Search Of..." team travels the country, from New York, Idaho, Long Island, and Connecticut, before locating a potential heir, who doesn't want publicity, but does offer some potential back story to the circumstances of its original purchase. The search continues... Though not among the best remembered, this entry is something of a mini-masterpiece, as it creates a most atmospheric period feel, and a fascinating journey to visit various locations and interested parties in this worthy search. Most underrated.

In Search Of... "The Missing Heir" (1979)

Here's another very good episode that basically has the show going on a search for someone. That "someone" is the rightful owner of stock certificate 390, which would be worth (at the time of the show) over three million dollars. We then hear the history of this stock and how its rightful owner was lost over time. The episode also takes us on a search for the person and this leads to a couple clues. This episode is certainly a very entertaining one as the story itself is very interesting and you have to wonder about the mystery behind the stock and the wonder of who it might belong to.

Episode: B+
