Abrams should consider revisiting his 2011 hit Super 8 for a sequel to mend recent franchise issues and showcase his storytelling abilities. Super 8 was a success financially and critically, offering a nostalgic and emotional sci-fi plot that can be expanded upon in a sequel. Returning to Super 8 would be a safer bet for Abrams compared to tackling another risky Star Trek or Star Wars project.
Famed director J.J. Abrams hasn't released a new film since 2019, and though there have been talks of him making a fourth Star Trek movie, the project he really should dedicate his time to is a sequel of one of his greatest sci-fi hits. Since 1990, J.J. Abrams has been at the forefront of sci-fi and fantasy films and television. In 2009, he famously took on the reboot of Star Trek, and a few years later, he directed two Star Wars movies. However, after what happened to J.

Judd Apatow was not happy with Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision last year to license a handful of HBO original series to Netflix. Many shows including Insecure, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Six Feet Under, and Ballers were licensed to the streaming platform. Apatow described this move as scary because Netflix could buy around older shows and stream them to their audience, rather than investing millions on new shows. However, X-Men writer Zack Stentz couldn’t agree with Apatow’s views.

Stentz shared that creatives like Apatow should also think about making money for the people. He pointed out the example of Suits, which gained newfound popularity on Netflix and Peacock last year, raking in money years after its finale premiered.

Shirley is a biographical movie about the life of Shirley Chisholm movie written and directed by John Ridley starring Regina King.
A schoolteacher, elected to Congress. It was the early 70s, and Shirley Chisholm was also the first African American woman to run for the Presidency of the United States. A woman who ran without any backing, representing the members of the working class, the minorities.
A movie filled with hope, faith, and feminism.
Indeed, more than a racial candidacy, Shirley Chisholm based her campaign on gender politics and minorities, paving the way for a hopeful future.
A film about faith, but above all about clear-cut American politics.
About the movie
Faith, hope, and a lot of political film of good ideas, faith, hope, and political consciousness. A movie with its good ideas well defined (we don’t deny them at any moment) and does everything possible to assert its thesis.

When Cobra Kai returns to Netflix for its sixth and final season, the Karate Kid spinoff plans to expand the Miyagiverse significantly. The teen-focused drama Crane kicked martial arts action fans in the face in 2018, building on the Karate Kid legacy started by Ralph Macchio (Daniel Larusso), William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi). With every season, Cobra Kai has grown through fan-service casting, interpersonal drama, and hard-hitting action. No one could have predicted the Miyagiverse would expand the way it has because of Cobra Kai, and now the show’s co-creator, Jon Hurwitz, says fans can expect Season 6 to explore the franchise in exciting ways like never before!
In a thread on Twitter/X, Hurwitz assured fans the final season of the series delivers big surprises, in-depth character flashbacks, and plot elements that expand the Miyagiverse.
“Season 6 expands the ‘Karate Kid/Cobra Kai’ universe more than the first 5 seasons combined.

Mr. Wick is once again trying to retire in John Wick: Chapter 4. The 2023 John Wick installment has Baba Yaga meeting old friends and making new enemies as the High Table hunts him down for everything he did in the last three movies. The nail-biter sequel to the action franchise is set in various international locations, including Japan and France, where its diverse cast impresses in fight sequences more gruesome than ever.
Some of Keanu Reeves' co-stars in the fourth chapter are seen from the first movie, like Ian McShane and Lance Reddick as the manager and the concierge of the Continental Hotel in New York City. New cast members like Bill Skarsgård and Natalia Tena are fantastic additions and their characters steal the show in their scenes. And even newcomer Rina Sawayama shines in a minor role, leaving no doubt that the cast of John Wick 4 is outstanding.

I have this really bad habit when I watch new shows. I am always late to the party. It happens all the time. I watch a pilot of a TV show, write it off and then years later I find out it’s an incredible piece of work. Community, Brooklyn 99, Superstore, and Babylon 5 are a few that come to mind. It’s frustrating because I miss out on so much fun, like talking to other fans about the show, conventions, and fun marketing. Sure, you can still do many of these things after the show but, like a fresh slice of pizza, it always tastes better fresh out of the oven. Fringe is another slice that I have had to microwave. The series followed a quirky scientist, an estranged criminal son, and a badass FBI agent on some dark and fascinating twists and turns. These would involve alternate dimensions,...

In 2018, it was announced that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot was in the early stages of development, and fans of the original series were ecstatic. Monica Owusu-Breen, known for shows like Alias and Fringe, was slated to serve as the series showrunner, while Buffy creator Joss Whedon was attached to the project as an executive producer. Having run for eight seasons from 1997 to 2003, the show garnered a massive fan base as well as critical acclaim. There was even a successful spin-off titled Angel that ran for five seasons from 1999 to 2004. In the years after the series aired, new fans flocked to the show thanks to its availability on streaming platforms. As such, the series was inevitably ripe for a reboot as it continued to amass a cult-like following.
However, since that original announcement nearly six years ago, the possibility of a Buffy reboot has seemed to fall to the wayside.

Most of the buzzed-about network dramas of the 1990s have been largely forgotten these days.
ER and NYPD Blue might have been the talk of the town during the Clinton years, but in the Biden age, they're seldom discussed outside of retrospectives about what the cast members are up to these days.
Interestingly, the network shows from that era that have loomed largest in the public's memory are the ones that might broadly be described as "supernatural mysteries."
We're talking about Twin Peaks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and, of course, The X-Files.
In fact, one could argue that no network drama from the past 30 years has proved as enduring and influential as the saga of Mulder and Scully.
The X-Files ran for nine seasons and inspired two feature films, a spinoff series (The Lone Gunmen), and a 2016 revival, with a second reboot rumored to be in the works courtesy of Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.

With Part 1 of its freshman finale, NCIS: Sydney uncorked quite the callback, by revealing that the “pregnant” woman who nearly got Mackey, Evie, Blue and dozens of others suffocated to death in an old bunker was in fact the blonde spy who eluded capture at the end of the series’ pilot.
Yet while it might seem as if Special Agent Mackey (Olivia Swann), Sergeant Jim “Jd” Dempsey (Todd Lasance) et al now have the upper hand, the abduction of Jd’s son Jack, in Part 2 of the finale (airing Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS), will thoroughly and harrowingly complicate matters.

J.J. Abrams' career has been negatively impacted by his struggles with Star Wars and DC. Despite his achievements in major franchises and TV hits, Abrams' capabilities as a leader were questioned due to creative changes in Star Wars. Abrams should focus on more original stories like his successful sci-fi movie Super 8, which showcased his talent and should serve as a blueprint for future projects.
J.J. Abrams' time linked to Star Wars and DC properties may have gone poorly, but the filmmaker has a sci-fi movie from 2011 that could serve as a blueprint for future successes. Despite being around since the '90s, Abrams didn't make his directorial debut until 2006, when he was at the helm of Mission: Impossible III. His biggest success as a director came with his next project, 2009's Star Trek, which also remains his most well-received movie with him in the director's chair. Even...

The Wire, Deadwood, and Fringe would likely find greater success with modern audiences due to their complex structures, relevant themes, and binge-watching culture. Ugly Betty and Nathan Barley were ahead of their time and would connect more with today's audience due to their examination of beauty standards and digital media obsession. Star Trek: The Original Series, Twin Peaks, Firefly, and Freaks and Geeks were underappreciated during their original runs but would thrive today with their progressive values and ability to resonate with viewers.
There are plenty of past television shows that, if they were to be released today, would become much more successful than when they originally aired. Nowadays, audience viewing habits have changed a lot and, due to the advent of the high-speed internet, streaming services, and binge-watching culture, viewer’s consumption and engagement with television are much different than in times past. Holiday-themed episodes were never part of Fringe’s DNA. Bald voyeurs, doppelgängers, and mad scientists were what was integral to this sci-fi series’ identity. A shame too, the series could have had some fun in taking on holidays with a grisly, Fringe-y twist. Some cases are terrifying enough to be set on or around the Halloween season, or due to the main setting taking place in Boston, it could have done a St. Patrick’s Day parade where science goes amok. Fringe loved exploring and making the impossible possible, but it never truly celebrated the holidays like many other shows did. Away from sitcoms, The Twilight Zone and Supernatural have festive entries to watch. With all that said, there was a Christmas episode, of sorts, back in Season 1. It finds a deadly use for Christmas lights, has Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble) singing holiday songs, and ends up an...

The science fiction genre has crafted some incredible series, including Stranger Things, The Mandalorian, and Battlestar Galactica. While these shows continued to succeed, several incredible sci-fi series fell under the radar and didn't receive much attention. Whether they were canceled too early or kept getting overshadowed by more famous series in the genre, these shows were creative with their sci-fi concepts.

Intense and dedicated can describe the “man in charge” roles Lance Reddick was known for. He was a regular presence on Bosch, even making a posthumous cameo, and he belonged to the ensemble of The Wire. His morally decent Lt. Cedric Daniels struggled with corruption happening in Baltimore. In the pursuit of cleaning up the city, Daniels’ first marriage fell apart and his career hit some bumps but slowly advanced. While that part was complex and gave a satisfying arc, the late actor’s best TV role was in another long-running series. In five seasons of Fringe, Special Agent Phillip Broyles saw the Fringe team less as colleagues and more as allies, a strong bond that facing deadly sci-fi threats could form. Like Daniels, Broyles was a strict authority figure who wanted to better the world around him, and his steely presence helped to ground the sci-fi stories that could go wild in creativity.

Sci-fi TV shows often prioritize plot and characters over scientific accuracy. The fun is in suspending disbelief and going along for the ride of the story. Science fiction predicts future advancements and explores themes of technological progress, space travel, and the blending of the organic and mechanical. While many shows take liberties with science, they still captivate audiences with their intriguing concepts, high stakes, and fantastical adventures. The focus is on storytelling rather than strict adherence to scientific principles.
Many sci-fi TV shows don't have the most accurate science or realistic premise, but that's part of the reason they're so well-loved. Unleashed on theaters in 1988, director Tom Holland's "Child's Play" introduced America to Chucky, a My Buddy-like doll inhabited by the soul of a foul-mouthed serial killer. Equal parts absurd and frightening, that first movie spawned six sequels, a remake, and a TV series. Of all the iconic '80s horror villains, he's the only one still written by his original creator, Don Mancini. As such, the TV series has brought back many actors and characters from throughout the franchise's history, in an increasingly complicated -- and refreshingly LGBTQ-positive -- narrative of epic proportions. A narrative that involves Devon Sawa playing multiple roles, for some reason.
Fans of the show know where some of the original film's cast members ended up, but what about the rest? Shot in Chicago, "Child's Play" made use of several local stage talents, as well as a few veteran actors and familiar faces. Can you...

Twin Peaks, Fringe, and Supernatural are all shows that have similar elements to The X-Files, including quirky FBI agents, supernatural phenomena, and intriguing plot twists. Outlander and The Man in the High Castle offer a unique twist on the suspense and thriller genre, with supernatural and political elements that will captivate X-Files fans. Killing Eve and Mindhunter provide a thrilling combination of plot twists, government conspiracies, and intriguing character dynamics that X-Files fans will enjoy.

Several TV shows have unnecessarily confusing timelines, with non-linear storytelling, flashbacks, and flash-forwards contributing to the confusion. Shows like The Witcher, Lost, and Westworld stand out for their particularly confusing timelines, jumping between different periods and timelines. While some shows manage to make their complex timelines satisfying once understood, others could benefit from simplifying their narratives and focusing on one timeline or universe at a time, like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe.
It's not uncommon for TV shows to employ complicated timelines, but there are a few shows whose timelines are far more confusing than they need to be. Non-linear narrative structures have become increasingly common, which is one easy way for a show's timeline to become more complicated than necessary. Sometimes, this type of storytelling can enhance a narrative by increasing dramatic tension, other times it just befuddles audiences, making it difficult to know what's going on even in great TV shows.

While Mindhunter was spending its first four episodes introducing the audience to the rich and rewarding buddy-cop relationship between FBI agents Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) and Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), the show was also quietly introducing my favorite character, Dr. Wendy Carr. As my husband groans in agony, I, with a song in my heart, say I’m happy — once more with feeling — whenever a non-musical show has a musical episode. When I researched this article, I found the same split among critics and audiences. There are those who feel like a musical episode is cheesy and out of place – who breaks out into song, anyway? And, admittedly, this has been the case with some. However, a song can progress a plot in a fraction of the time dialogue can, and when done well, can be a standout episode of a favorite series. There were quite a few to choose from, and it was tough to pick.
I chose to stick to live-action series. “The Simpsons” and “South Park” are among animated programs that have had memorable musical episodes, but it’s a different factor for actors and actresses to break into song.

The Twilight Zone has inspired countless modern movies and TV episodes, and the Justice League cartoon was no different. One of The Twilight Zone's best-remembered stories involved a small village of people terrorized by an omnipotent boy, and this was featured in a Justice League episode. The Justice League episode perfectly borrowed from both comics and classic TV but added a horrifying twist of a monstrous mutation to the story.
