What IS this?!

I'm not sure what they were going for here. I like this show but this episode really annoys me.

It's not all bad; I can feel there is something of interest here. I got this impression that this show was going to be about all things black but I suppose the black experience is not 100% things exclusive to being black so whatever.

Tom and Sarah can have marital problems, that could be interesting. Sarah doesn't seem to appreciate Tom and seems to resent that he's not a particular celebrity. Sort of looks like she's in the wrong but relation problems can run deep.

Tom isn't wholly in the right of course as we see him kind of embarrassing Sarah in that restaurant.

It's just occurred to me that they have such anglo-saxon names...probably to be consistent with this idea that they are benign but humdrum people.

Why was Tom Kicked out? It's his home too, he should be able to do that. This episode sits negatively in my memory partly because it was the start of all the problems Tom and Sarah apparently have and Tom looks in the right each time.

Maybe it's satirizing this narrative of how women desire the misogynistic and abusive tough guys who are bad for them but that narrative has to be nonsense in the first place surely?

I am willing to admit that this episode may have gone right over my head in parts.

But it's tedious to watch them teach Tom to be assertive and it's the ending that really insults the audience.

This episode sort of made me dislike Usher though he didn't write this.

I wanted to leave my thoughts on this...
