- Fan Xian, born in the ancient empire of Southern Qing, inexplicably possesses memories from the 21st century. Wanting to learn about his mysterious past, he ventures to the capital, only to be entangled in the intrigues of the Emperor.

- Zhang Qing, a present-day college student in culture and history major wants to study in professor Ye's postgraduate class, so he decides to write a historical fiction to elaborate his perspective of analyzing ancient literature history with modern concept. In the fiction, Zhang himself acts as a young man Fan Xian with mysterious life who lives in a remote seaside town of Kingdom Qing in his childhood, under the help of a mysterious mentor and a blindfolded watchman. Fan goes to the capital when he grows up, where he experiences plenty of ordeal and temper. Fan persists in adhering the rule of justice and goodness and lives his own glorious life.
- Fan Xian (Zhang Ruo Yun) is the son the Vice Minister of Revenue that operates in the government of the despotic Emperor of the Qing (Chen Dao Ming). He was sent to be raised in Danzhou after the Ye clan (his mother's family) was assassinated. Wu Zhu, his family servant and at the grand master level in marital arts, saved him and continued to protect and train him into adulthood. The director of the Overwatch council, Chen Ping Ping believes Fan Xian has great potential and sends Fei Jie, the third bureau's chief to train Fan in poison and medicine. The royal family arranged Fan Xian to marry the chancellor's daughter Lin Wan'er (Li Qin). He would take over the palace treasury, which originally was his mother's family business before her assassination, from the Crown Princess, Li YunRui (Lin Wan'er's mother). Not willing to give up her power, she aligns herself with the Crown Prince and plots many assassinations and political traps towards Fan Xian. Things get even more complicated Fan Xian he discovers that he is actually the natural son of the Emperor and that his adoptive father was a long-term admirer of Fan Xian's mother. On a diplomatic mission to Northern Qi, Fan Xian discovers that the Crown Princess is actually secretly aligned with the Second Prince of Qing have been smuggling enough from the palace treasury to raise their own private army. Fan Xian vows to take revenge on the Second Prince for the assassination attempt on Niu Nian Street which killed his close friend and confidant. The Second Prince makes the first move, who will win the battle for power?
