- Slow life in a small seaside town N is suddenly disturbed by a local scandal around Volodymyr, a man who has recently passed away. Only his wife Maria and his friend Petro know his resting place, and they refuse to tell the others where he is buried, in accordance with his last wishes. Maria and Petro are called to court by the late man's first wife Hanna, who demands to know where her former husband is buried. Hanna and Volodymyr divorced many years: she never understood her husband, an ichthyologist, and considered his devotion to sea and marine life an oddity, even a lunacy. Local Judge is reluctant to dive into a domestic dispute, as this is his last case before retirement. Through the memories of characters we peek into the life of a man who is no longer among the living. He was, indeed, a strange man, hopelessly devoted to sea and adamant in his beliefs that fish are better than people, who believed that in his next life he will return to the sea, to a place where happiness awaited him. Town's other oddball, The Hourglass Man, got his nickname for his strange looks and manners, as he is weirdly fond of hourglass, with which he experiments with time. These are the events unfolding in town N, but matters preoccupying the minds of main characters - a man who has recently passed away, his two wives, his son, his closest friend, and his friend's daughter, a local judge and his wife - are of greater importance. Each of these people seek answers to their own personal questions- in society and in other people, that is why their efforts are futile and the time is running out. There is sense of danger in the air, something is about to happen, and it finally does. Warships appear in the harbor; there are two, then three, then four... One morning they raise their cannons, taking aim at the town. Growing sense of forebodings finally leads to a real danger around them.
