It’s hard to imagine nowadays, but humans weren’t always at the top of the food chain. And with our ancestors being preyed upon by larger mammals and even our fellow humanoids, it stands to reason that we’d develop a generalized fear of the dark. That’s why it makes sense that cold places where the sun doesn’t routinely rise are naturally suited for spooky stories.
This is precisely what showrunner Issa López had in mind when she came up with HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, a brand-new murder mystery that returns the anthology show to its horrific roots. And with new episodes dropping weekly, we’ve decided to help viewers get an additional fix of frigid frights by recommending six arctic thrillers to watch after Td: Night Country.
As usual, don’t forget to comment below with your own arctic favorites if you think we missed a particularly spooky one.

With news that Supermassive’s Until Dawn is getting a film adaptation, the rumour mill is spinning up news that the title could be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC. Not only that, but Death Stranding 2 will be getting an official title.
Per French website Dealabs, an announcement regarding Until Dawn coming to the PS5 and PC is coming “within 15 days”. There’s unfortunately not much more information on this version of Until Dawn, though one could suspect that if the game is making the leap, it would feature graphical enhancements to take advantage of the PS5 hardware. None of this has been confirmed as of yet by Sony or Supermassive.
Meanwhile, Dealabs also mentions that Death Stranding 2, which was announced back at The Game Awards 2022, has an official title. Much like Until Dawn, an announcement about the game is expected within the next 15 days, possibly during a State of Play event.

Physical media junkies win again with Fallen Leaf and Black Drakkar Games’ Fort Solis, as the game will be getting a physical release on the PlayStation 5 when it launches this Summer.
Courtesy of Merge Games, the physical release will have some additional treats for those of you who spring for a PlayStation copy. The retail release of Fort Solis will include the game’s original soundtrack, alongside a digital artbook.
Fort Solis has you assume the role of engineer Jack Leary, as he spends the longest night of his life on an isolated mining base on Mars. Explore Fort Solis station at your own pace, gathering clues from its bunkers, labs, crew quarters, and harsh, stormy surface to understand what enigmatic fate befell its inhabitants. As the night grows longer events escalate, spiral out of control, and the mystery as to what’s really going on deepens.

I’m a huge fan of the slasher genre. Out of every sub category in the wide horror genre, the slasher appeals to me the most. There’s just something thrilling about watching characters attempt to survive a monster in a mask that wants to butcher them to bits. Despite it being one of the most successful subgenres of film, it hasn’t really cracked the video game space all that much. Sure we’ve had gems like Friday the 13th, and some inversions of the genre like Until Dawn. But for the most part, if you want to live out the fantasy of being in a slasher film, the pickings are slim.
In comes Killer Frequency to change all of that; and it’s an absolute blast. If I had to pin it down, it feels like playing a video game version of the opening of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2...

Supermassive Games has recently announced that the latest entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me will be released on November 18, 2022. In addition to the recent announcement, I had the chance to preview some gameplay footage, as well as hear from Game Director, Tom Heaton, about the inspirations and influences that impacted the development of the game. Referred to as “the season one finale of the anthology”, The Devil in Me already looks to be an amalgamation of lessons learned from previous entries in the anthology and feedback from its playerbase, and the preview has left me eager to dive back into The Dark Pictures come November.
The premise this time around isn’t focused so much on a specific event in history or mythology, but draws inspiration upon a specific historic figure: H.H. Holmes. For those unfamiliar, Holmes is one of the most notorious serial killers in modern history,...

I remember celebrating New Years Eve on December 31st, 2019 with high hopes and ambitions. A new decade! A fresh slate–a new start. Then the shit show that was 2020 ensued and you know the rest. However, before the horror of Covid-19 hit, I was served an appetizer of trauma that solidified 2020 as the most challenging year of my life. And despite what you may hear in the news about how awful video games are–how they rot people’s brains and poison the youth–horror games in particular were vital in my journey of overcoming the trauma. Particularly, choice-based narrative games like Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn and Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

In my restless dreams, I see that town… Silent Hill. They promised they’d take me there again someday… and now it looks like they are!
Surprising everyone, French director Christophe Gans casually mentioned that he was working on a new Silent Hill movie in a recent interview with Allocine. The beloved but long-dormant franchise has seen faint signs of life over the last week, as there’s been rumors swirling around the video game community that Konami is developing two new entries in the series (one an Until Dawn ‘choose your own adventure’ style game and the other a full reboot of the franchise). And now, it seems that the movie series has also been kicked back into gear.
The director was light on details about the pic, but explained that:
“The project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I...

Konami has finally seen fit to acknowledge the huge demand for a new Silent Hill game in light of recent leaks.
AestheticGamer, who has shared numerous accurate leaks in the past, uploaded a now widely circulated post on Twitter last week loaded with details for a number of unannounced projects. One of these involved details about Capcom’s troubled development of Resident Evil 8 (you can read all about that over here) while another concerned Konami’s own acclaimed survival horror franchise. The publisher, they say, has reportedly been accepting pitches and ideas from external studios for some time now, one for a soft reboot of the series à la Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 and another for an episodic-like title akin to that of Telltale’s works and Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn.
A fate far and away more desirable than that of being turned into a Pachinko machine, no doubt, but AestheticGamer’s unverified claims,...

Konami is reportedly ready to revive Silent Hill by producing two very different games.
A new report suggests that Konami has approved the development of two new Silent Hill games.
This information seems to originate from the Twitter account AestheticGamer which has accurately reported on insider leaks in the past. They claim that Konami reached out to developers for Silent Hill pitches about two years ago and that they seem to have settled on a couple that they like.
The first pitch is for a kind of "soft-reboot" of the franchise, which we imagine could end up looking like the recent God of War in the sense that it tries to reimagine certain Silent Hill elements without completely re-writing the book in terms of lore. The second reportedly accepted pitch is for an "episodic TellTale/Until Dawn-style game." Again, there aren't many details available regarding the specifics of this project,...

Far the past several years, Silent Hill fans have had no other choice than to rely on hope and hearsay that the series has any sort of notable future.
Konami, despite still retaining sole ownership, seems to have completely forgotten about the beloved IP as of late, with puzzling events such as a total abandonment of the franchise’s official home on the internet only further fueling the fire. In fact, the only notable continuation – if you can even call it that – came last year when the publisher revealed a new Silent Hill-themed gambling cabinet for Japan. Hardly the triumphant return many had been hoping for.
Now, however, it seems some good fortune is finally in order. According to reputable leaker AestheticGamer, word on the street is that the company does, in actual fact, have not one, but two major Silent Hill titles in the works.

We'd love to see these PlayStation-exclusive franchises back in the spotlight...
In the last seven years, the PlayStation 4 has cultivated an impressive library of quality titles that simply can’t be experienced anywhere else. Moreover, just when it looks like we’ve had our fill with the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, and Until Dawn all releasing to critical and commercial acclaim, a nice surprise like Marvel’s Spider-Man will swing on over to reinvent how people think of open-world superhero games forever.
Yes, PlayStation has continued to champion quality over quantity with its many first-party exclusives this generation, but nobody can deny that there have been a few franchise casualties along the way. Let's take a stroll down memory lane, then, and decide which PlayStation exclusives deserve to make comebacks.
