Independent thriller

This is an independent thriller with four characters set in a house. I'm assuming it's on a budget, so they have done well with these limitations.

You don't get all of the answers neatly unfolded sequentially. As a result, you'll need to fill in gaps of the storyline.

There is good suspense and tension. I was surprised by the ending, which went in a completely different direction to what I was expecting.

The cinematography is also good.

I would have liked sharper editing with more natural movements. Sometimes the actor's expressions come across as exaggerated or overemphasized.

I could see this working well as a live stage play.

I'd never give anything a 1, but this is the exception

Warning: Spoilers
What's the point? This film has zero substance nor depth. I wouldn't call It a horror or a suspense. The only thing to do with a screwdriver is she stabs herself with it in the final act? GTFO. I pride myself with being open to interpretation, reading think pieces or just in general a movie with depth that requires more convo after. But this movie was quite literally a waste of time and I have no idea why it exists. There's a strange sexual tension at the beginning, and you think, hmm maybe it's a unicorn moment. The wife drugs our main character, and for what? Maybe putting her into a deeper psychosis? Little is explained in this semi Stockholm syndrome drama, and honestly it isn't worth your time🤷‍♀️

Don't waste your time, seriously.

I have never in my life left a 1 star review. I see 1 star reviews on movies that have a good score, or good acting. Maybe good lighting and a decent script. Movies fall short. It's art baby. Up to the interpretation of others. So I try my best to see the good, or atleast see what the writer was aiming at.

This is garbage. No really. Its bad. If you made this movie and are reading this review, who let you make this movie? You pitched it. You drew up story boards. Maybe, Board? I should say bored. And someone said yes? There is no plot. Well nothing that's interesting or engaging. Nothing happens. It's dull. Lifeless even.

The acting is terrible. No tension was built. Not with music. Not with ambiance. It's a dialog driven movie with nothing to say.

DONT SEE THIS MOVIE. I love a bad movie. Really, I love a bad movie that I can make fun of. This is just sad and pathetic. Sorry not sorry.

It asked me to say if it contains spoilers... spoil what?!

Absolutely HORRIBLE, clickbait

This movie had 4.5 stars on Amazon prime and was left under the suspense and horror category. This movie was absolutely HORRIBLE, a waste of time. Horrible acting, no plot, no story, low budget film set in one place. I made an idmb account JUST TO give this movie the lowest rating possible there's no way you could POSSIBLY enjoy this. I wish I could get a refund. Me and my fiance couldn't even enjoy movie night this movie ruined our whole night. This movie doesn't belong in the horror genre. The movie is just a twisted manipulative therapy session nothing more. If you're interested in a movie about a therapy session with no plot this movie is for you. But if you want horror and suspense PLEASE for the love of God DO NOT waste your time and money this movie should be BANNED from Amazon prime.

A psychological thriller with a lot of tension combined with intense emotions and conversations.

A psychological thriller with a lot of tension combined with intense emotions and conversations.

The way that the manipulation, paranoia and betrayal was brought out during it's runtime was actually scary.

With the use of close up camera shots they really made you feel connected towards Emily but it missed its tone with the other characters.

With a bit more screen time they could've built up Robert and Mellisa backstory and chemistry a bit more.

It does have some weird and overlapping storylines but that's what made this film so special but hard to follow at times.

This movie feels very unique and was so interesting to follow.

If you are a fan of a more tensional and emotional thriller flick, this will suit you!

Interesting Psychological Thriller with Good Performances

Now this is an independent film that I got the chance to check out when Justin Cook reached out with the opportunity to see the screener. I figured out that this wasn't horror, but I read the synopsis and it sounded dark. It intrigued me and since this seemed close to the genre, I figured I'd give it a watch.

Synopsis: taken in by a wealthy couple after her sudden divorce, an isolated woman spirals into a surreal nightmare of manipulation, paranoia and betrayal.

We are following Emily (AnnaClare Hicks) as she decides to stay with Robert (Charlie Farrell) and Melissa (Milly Sanders). What I gather, she went to high school to Robert. He was nice to her back then and I took it there was an attraction there. Something I should point out though is not everything is as it seems.

Melissa works in a high-powered office and does well there. Robert is a professor who is working toward his tenure. There seems to be an incident that he's dealing with regarding a former student/teacher's assistant. The couple presents a façade that everything is great. There are cracks that we see and that Emily notices as well.

Things are awkward from the beginning. Emily reveals that she's a vegetarian and this upsets Melissa after she worked so hard on dinner. Emily wants to leave as she doesn't feel welcome. I get the idea that both Robert and Melissa want her to stay. The manipulation starts from there.

Robert is a psychiatrist or a psychologist. He plays this game where he asks Emily questions. The deeper we get into this, the more we see that she is brainwashed by him. It also looks like they're drugging her. This gets horrific in seeing how low she gets and then they go about building her back up. Where things end up there is interesting as there are reveals throughout that point to what their end goal here. It makes me think that this scandal Robert is dealing with might be due to something similar.

This is carried by the acting for sure. The range that Hicks shows is the best performance by far. She has moments where she looks like she is getting over what happened with her husband. We then see her in a form of depression. I wasn't familiar with this actress, but she has me intrigued to see what she does from here. I think that Farrell and Sanders are also good as this duo. We get a range from them where they rotate who is 'good cop' and who isn't. That is interesting what that does though since Emily isn't fully sure which Robert or Melissa she gets. This does a number on her head. We also get to briefly meet Sean who is portrayed by Matt Munroe when he shows up at the house.

What is also fascinating about this story is that they almost treat Emily like a child. She gets scolded when she leaves the house on her first day there. Melissa is worried about her. Robert shows affection that feels like flirting. This is even done in front of his wife who doesn't seem to react. It is how odd this is that sucked me in to see where this would go. Things also escalate from here where I'd go as far to say that Emily develops Stockholm syndrome.

In conclusion, this is a solid drama with thriller elements to it. Things that are being done to Emily are borderline horrific. This is carried by great acting, especially by Hicks. She is someone that is now on my radar and I hope I can see her more. There is also an odd sweetness to her that adds something more that affected me when she is being manipulated. I thought this was well made from the cinematography to the soundtrack. It is limited in effects but doesn't necessarily need them. Also be warned, this is set in this house. We use different rooms, but I don't think we venture out. If that is an issue avoid this. If not, this is a well-done movie that has dark undertones.

My Rating: 7 out of 10.
