Vicky Cornell does not blame suicide for taking her husband's life. Chris Cornell's widow sat down with People magazine and admitted she "missed" the signs of his addiction, noting she believes that is what caused his death on May 18. When the lights went down at the Rose Bowl before U2’s performance Saturday night, it wasn’t for the band: It was so the speakers could blast Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” in tribute to Chris Cornell — and tens of thousands of U2 fans could sing along. Later in the show, Bono called the late singer of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave a “lion,” and “beautiful, sweet soul.” He extended U2’s love to his “lioness” — Cornell’s widow Vicky — and their children. And then the band went into “Running to Stand Still,” their delicate, crushing ballad about the torrents of addiction.

Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who took his own life after a concert at Detroit’s Fox Theatre this week, seemed to be “really fighting” to get through the performance, according to a friend of the deceased vocalist. Kevin Morris, a friend of Cornell’s who also used to roadie for Soundgarden and Cornell’s other band, Audioslave, told People that Cornell seemed to become “disoriented” early on in the Wednesday set. “The whole performance you could tell something wasn’t right,” Morris said. “Into the second song he started getting disoriented or something. I just figured he wasn’t feeling well.

Chris Cornell truly is one of the fathers of grunge.
Et spoke to the Soundgarden frontman -- who died on Wednesday at age 52 -- in 1992 about his band's place in the burgeoning Seattle music scene, which produced such influential rock acts as Pearl Jam, Nirvana and his own.
"We came out of, like, an urban scene that bands like Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, the Melvins and Nirvana all came out of," Cornell explained at the time. "They're very different bands. There's certain similarities, but really, if you sat down someone who didn't know and played them a Nirvana record, a Mudhoney record, a Soundgarden record and a Pearl Jam record, they would have no clue that they were all from the same city or the same scene."

Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden, tragically committed suicide after playing a show in Detroit, Michigan at the Fox Theater according to The Independent. As a member of Soundgarden, he helped usher along an era of music that helped rid the music world of some of the pretensions and phoniness the music industry and built at that particular time. With his work in Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, and Audioslave, his legacy in the music industry will never be forgotten.
One aspect of his career that doesn't get much publicity is his work in film. With music in such films as Singles, Wayne's World, and Benny and June, his music helped fill the soundtrack of the movies of the 90's. One song he did, You Know My Name, helped usher in the modern era of James Bond as the lead in for Casino Royale.
The song itself is an underrated Bond movie classic theme.

Chris Cornell's music is spiking in sales on iTunes and Amazon. The leap was, of course, expected after his death -- but it's interesting to see what fans are connecting with most. The 20th anniversary reissue of Soundgarden's "Superunknown" is the #1 album on iTunes -- and his other band, Audioslave, has the #2 spot. His recordings are scattered all over Amazon's "Movers & Shakers" chart as well. In an odd coincidence ... some rare Cornell recordings...
