First episode in the series to not feature a flashback.
The dance moves that Shawn performs when on the roof with Abigail are dance moves done in the movie The Breakfast Club.
Shawn asks Henry if he can have Henry's underwear. This is a reference to Sixteen Candles.
Gus' monologue/letter reading at the end is like the end of "The Breakfast Club". Even some lines are shared. Shawn's outfit and fist raising at the end, as well as the freeze frame, are modeled after Judd Nelson's at the end of "The Breakfast Club". Shawn wore Judd Nelson's picture from "The Breakfast Club" the entire episode.
When Shawn is talking to a couple of former classmates he says "We spent our wonder years together." The writer of this episode is Andy Berman who played Chuck on The Wonder Years.
