Could've been the season finale with a few tweaks
thetypingavocado16 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I felt like this could've been a season finale, with a few tweaks or at least apart of a season finale 2 parter... but it still worked. Personally, i thought the pacing was off, but it helped with the character moments. And it gave a reason for Sarah Cushing to be there. Another positive was Superman, with Tyler Hoechlin giving an impressive performance, and Jonathan being the chad he is!

Another negative was the effects were a bit off, but that's being nitpicky. I also wished that they pulled from the comics for morgan edge's character, but overall, good episode (8.7/10) PS: I felt that the previous episode was the better episode, but this was still a good follow up!

I cannot handle so much awesomeness
GomezAddams66616 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Superman & Lois is the series that keeps on giving, a true testament to what a great Superman show could be.

Not only did we learn that Morgan Edge is Kal-El's half brother, but we also discovered his plans to annihilate the human race, fulfilling the prophecy given by John Henry Irons.

We also discover that Lara Lor-Van created the technology that is making Edge's dreams come true, although this was not her intent.

But of course, it would not be Superman & Lois without some family drama, which is a bit tiresome in other CW shows but it feels so natural and heart wrenching here.

I cannot wait to see what happens next with the Man of Tomorrow.

Best Superman since Smallville

Warning: Spoilers
I am really enjoying this show, I would give it higher marks except I had some basic issues with Morgan Edge. Where did he get all the Kryptonian minds? How could he know each of the ones he used would be 'evil' since none of them seemed 'grey' they were all pretty much Murdertonians. But loopholes aside, great Series and This Superman is the Best one I have seen since Chris Reeve.

Definitely felt like a season finale
ldamena16 June 2021
What a great episode! Kept me on the edge of my seat esp the last 20 mins or so. What a cliff! Thank goodness we don't have to wait an entire hiatus to see what comes next. Not gonna lie finding out that this season was originally only 10 eps worries me because if those extra 5 eps added lol. 1x10 felt like a fitting close to the season. I don't trust the CW. But, lets hope they keep giving us amazing episodes for what's left of season 1. Though, if the first 10 eps were as good can't help and wonder what's in store for us. As much as the CW is an issue for me, I don't think S&L could really disappoint: at least not during S1.

The Morgan Edge storyline is the center of this episode, acting and writing deserves lots of praise
Holt34416 June 2021
Part of me wanted Eric Dean Seaton to return in the director chair for the follow up episode titled "O Mother, Where Art Thou?" but Harry Jierjian does a phenomenal job and it's nice to see a long time editor for DC's live action shows gets the chance to direct, and I have to say it was very good direction from him. Cinematography is like the previous episodes, very good.

This week's episode begins where the last episode ended with Superman going up against Morgan Edge who we learned also had kryptonian powers, another twist was Lana's husband Kyle was also among the Subjekts. The plot advances in a great pace and I loved how they edited this episode, probably one of the best edited episodes. The focus was on Superman and Lois, which was appreciated. Why I find this twist and story working so well is how different the two worlds we have seen truly is, you could clearly understand why Superman of John Henry Irons world choose Morgan Edge's side, and I love how it isn't black or white. His reasons are fully revealed and I can say he's a good villain but too similar to Zod. I can't wait to see what else the writers and showrunners have in store for us.

The episode is full of great acting, the adults got the most screen time and with that actors like Tyler Hoechlin, Adam Rayner and Elizabeth Tulloch got time to really shine and give us phenomenal performances. They nailed the drama and every single line of dialogue.

On the technical side of things, I only have one bad thing to say and it's the green screen environment, you could clearly see the green color of the green screen on Morgan Edge in one or the confrontations between him and Superman. But other than that, the effects were good and the music was fantastic.

Keeps on getting Better

Warning: Spoilers
This show is sooooo goooddd. Imo I think this is better than Midvision and the Falcon Winter Solider. (Don't get mad at my opinion). This episode was so great especially the ending also cgi is still great. We learn Edge backstory and it is done pretty well. They really explain his motives and background as a whole. All the characters played a good role as well. Kyle was really menacing when he was under control. Awesome episode 9.7/10.

Best Superhero Media of 2021??
demigodshmurda16 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If this is proof of a new era of Arrowverse writing, sign me up because I am all in! The Arrowverse shows haven't had writing this consistently good since The Flash season 1! To clarify, Legends of Tomorrow is a fluke. There's no reason Legends should be as good as it is for 6 seasons straight. Stargirl wasn't written by the CW's writers, so that's the explanation for Stargirl being as amazing as it was. I think the last season of the Arrowverse I was *this* invested in and excited for was Black Lightning season 1 back in 2017! To think that Black Lightning's first season is the only season written by the CW writers on the level of Superman and Lois so far is a testament to what the CW has become in the last few years.

For starters, every emotional blow landed this week. Whether it was Sarah going to see her dad, or Clark getting to see his mom for the first time since Krypton exploded, everything landed nicely and was really well done.

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of Sarah's teen angst in this series, but I think it was really well handled this week. Growing up in a household with an alcoholic father, I can totally see where she's coming from. For once she's not being irrational, and it's great! Do more like this! Let Inde Navarette do more emotional scenes, please! When she turned away from her father, horrified at what he'd become, I was about to cry! For context, I never cry! And then at the end of the episode when she got to see him again as he'd become human again, I was about to cry again! Overall, the Cushing family stuff was handled incredibly well this week in my opinion. Best showing for them since the pilot, probably.

So I didn't get the name of Not Edge this week since he said it once right at the beginning of the episode, but Not Edge is literally the opposite of Clark in every way! He wasn't nourished by the people of Earth like Clark was, causing him to become cynical and thrusting him into his mother's plan to resurrect Krypton. I really like his origin, despite the fact that the writers baited us with the possibility of him being a popular Superman villain. Well done with his origin story.

Also, I'm fairly sure the reason that he's always seen in the desert is because he has his own Fortress of Solitude out there. Because of course there's gonna be more parallels between him and Clark. That's so sick!

To run through a few minor things about the episode, of course Sam has a cage that doubles as a Kryptonian torture chamber. That makes sense, and is also awesome. Lana's role in the episode was well handled. She thinks a lot of what's happening is her fault, and I don't blame her for thinking that. The Kent brothers' dynamic is still great. Alex Garfin and Inde Navarette have great chemistry on screen together as always, and I've been waiting for them to get together since the pilot!

What can I say, man. This episode was phenomenal! Not a single thing dragging it down in my opinion. I know this series has a toxically positive fanbase, and normally I'm able to pick out one or two issues with the episode, but there's nothing I could find in this one that I didn't like! That's how good this episode was! This week, the praise is absolutely justified!

Now we just have to see if Stargirl follows suit with this series quality of writing, since I'm still terrified about what the CW could do to it. After this episode though, I'm a little more optimistic than I was before. You have my attention CW. Don't screw this up. Finish this show strong, and then give us a good second season for Stargirl.

10 / 10.

worst episode of the season so far
kokomo12323 June 2021
Nobody can still tell clark from superman, superman still has a cape - isn't that enough bull for the whole franchise. Why do produces still need to resort to other outdated and completely unbelievable magic science sticks and plot decisions. I'm pretty sure most people watching this are nostalgic adults and not kids who won't see the easy ways out that writers take here blatantly.

I am speechless.
wetmars19 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Edge fights with Superman then suddenly disappear. Lois tries to call Lana, but she doesn't pick up the phone. Clark returns to the Kent Farm. He explains to his family that Edge is his brother. I am loving the expressions here. Phenomenal acting. Clark returns to the Fortress of Solitude and confronts his father about his frustration with Edge's motive. His father could not help him further, shame. The General tells Lois that he has found somebody. Lana and his husband discuss whatever is going on. What a tough relationship this is, not gonna file. Lois enters Lana's house. The father chokes both of them. The two fight back and uses kryptonite. What a way to go! The Military has taken him in custody. Lana has a discussion with Lois and Clark on Edge's motive.

Lane confronts Lana's husband about someone in EdgeCorp. He refuses to tell him, so Lane uses kryptonite to torture him. Superman arrives at EdgeCorp keeping custody of the guy who has been responsible for the machine. Jonathan, Jordan, and Lana arrive at the site to see her dad. Lane confronts him and decides to let them in. The Dad threatens Jothahan when he gets out of there, he will kill him first. Lana volunteers to be experimented in the machine in front of the Military. Superman's mother's consciousness is uploaded in Lana's mind. How crazy can this be? Lol. "Lana" explains her backstory on Kryptonian History. Sara has a conversation with Jordan on what's going on. Lana explains to Lane how Kryptonian consciousness uploading works.

Superman senses Edge and confronts him. Edge tells more of his heartbreaking backstory, and how he made them afraid. This is some superb stuff. I am speechless. Almost all humans consciousness is taken by Kryptonians. Superman flies away from them. All of the Kryptonians use their heat ray vision on him. The Military evacuates. Sara meets with her "dad". They had their heat ray on the power source creating one massive shockwave reverting the humans.

Lana and Sara finally reunite with their husband/dad. Superman flies to the Fortress of Solitude to bring in the mighty power source and passes out. Edge and his assistance arrive.

Thoughts?

Damn, "Edge" backstory is terrifying, and this dialogue is killing it! This Superman content is glorious which I have not seen for a long time. Incredible music. This Edge stuff is killing it, too. I like how Jothahan confronts Sara about the situation. Great drama here with characters bonding. You feel bad for the characters. It is sad. Beautiful. Even when it comes to Superman's relationship with his mother. Heartwarming. Lovely cinematography never gets old. Best episode so far. The last 10 minutes is absolutely phenomenal.

Ugh
mr-altex20 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just to pinpoint that obvious plot hole, if they got blasted from the sky so they lost all their powers, weren't they all supposed to die?

Also, if the Kryptonians are mostly peaceful, how would they know how to nitpick the right ones who will go for slaughter of humanity.

Why haven't Lara move out of range of the device?

The whole plot seems super strange to me to the point that I could not enjoy the episode at all.

A Great Addition and Then a Letdown
afrisco19 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Having Lana volunteer at the risk of her own life for her family was fantastic, such a great moment for her character. And then having Clark have the opportunity to speak to his Kryptonian mother Lara, was so great! I am so glad this iteration of Superman is giving so much emphasis to the maternal influences and relationships for Clark and not just the paternal.

But the letdown was how they dealt with the Kryptonian army. So much buildup. So much at stake with Kyle and Emily, and so much potential paranoia with not knowing who in the town has changed, but they end that plot element so abruptly and so anticlimactically. Such a letdown unless this paves the way for something else. And no John Irons in this episode.

By far my least favorite of the season so far because the above. But loved the Lana/Lara stuff, and Jon calling out General Lane on his secret keeping.

O Mother, Where Art Thou?
Prismark103 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode really does explore the Brightburn story but it is Morgan Edge who is evil.

Edge reveals that he is Superman's unknown half brother. They had the same mother, Lara Lor-Van.

Morgan Edge landed in Britain where people tried to shoot him. He was hounded by the Brits. He feels no love for humans.

Edge wants to resurrect Kryptonians on Earth. Their Kryptonian mother invented a device called the Eradicator. Edge wants to subvert the machine to colonize Earth as new Krypton.

Although there are shock revelations to the Superman mythology. A lot of it was just plain silly.

Everything from Jordan and Jonathan taking Sarah to see her unhinged father who is locked up by the military. To all these humans with Kryptonians suddenly losing their powers and crash landing but they all survive.

"There is no us or them."
RobinKarlsson2223 June 2021
Harry Jierjian delivers an amazing direction performance!

The visuals is clearly the primarily part of why it's as significant as it is. Love how every visual merged with the editing conceive a substantial outcome. The camera work and cinematography is executed excellent. With the actor's performance felt genuine. Really liked how the colours progressed along within the story. It's reflectance was essential. Liked how the characters moved within their scenes as well. It was well thought out. And that is one major thing that Superman & Lois has always dealt with, but sometimes it seemed rushed or uncommitted. This time it felt authentic. Furthermore the editing mixed with their movements and camera worked was accomplished preeminent. The background behind the characters had an signified denotation, so in addition, along with their movements it's construct a signification.

The costumes itself was decent but amalgamate it in the scene as a whole, it in fact does provoke a merit. The locations along with the setting was noteworthy. It did evoke a strong atmosphere that boosted the characters intention. Most of the actors really bringed out their finest acting. Erik Valdez, Adam Rayner and Stacey Farber especially. Emmanuelle Chriqui really distribute a demanding task and she did it superb.

As for post production goes, it was done great! Soundtrack never felt out of place and the effects (although i'm not that good of judging them and don't think that they are that essential) did look singular. The pacing and how well they tied everything in together amidst great overlapping was done brilliantly.

Tyler Hoechlin as Superman really grows on me and looking forward to see both more of him, as well his resistance towards Adam Rayner. Their chemistry is remarkable and i'm very fond of it. "O Mother, Where Art Thou?" definitely deserves a 10/10 and i'm quite positive that this is their greatest episode up to date.

Thank Super Goodness - Not the season finale
leoalexanderscott20 June 2021
Tbh, I thought this was the season finale. Im glad I pop onto IMBd to discover my delight that the series has a full status of episodes. When I thought this was the finale, I was dissappointed in the what appeared to be a rush script, squeezing too much into a hour. And consequently, suffering the usual fate these days for movies and television action hero series of a lazy good win despite the odds wrap up. But alas, more episodes to go! Hopefully it will be stretch with a more interesting climax to come. The series has been absolute winner, so I hope retains it glory. :)

Britain ... villagers with guns
aquamanUK16 June 2021
I had to actually Laugh out Loud when I watched the mods of angry villagers of Britain with GUNS! Yes Guns - shooting at him.

1. Guns before they were banned were rare and those who had guns had to meet rather strict criteria such as how to use training courses and all firearms kept in secure, Locked cabinets.

2. The US Gun, shot them up, bang bang, is not part of the UK or anywhere in the EU psychie. Going for the gun is the last thing a person in Europe would do.

3. If a non-terran were to land on Earth, the being would be far better off landing in Europe than anywhere else on Earth. There is not the us/them, kill anything that is not of us mentality. The shoot them up at the OK Corral is very USA not UK or EU. Mobs of Angry villagers are very Hollywood - straight from the mono/b&w screen of the villagers with pitchforks after Frankenstein's creation. Lol

4. British accents are extremely varied. If he had landed and was held in the area with the accents of the 'mob of angry villagers' and held in a military facility, etc - he would definitely not speak RP - received pronunciation aka Estuary English.

A 5/10 at best
gareth-7544217 June 2021
This entire show from the pilot thru to this episode is a solid 5/10 & nothing more, not an insult just an honest opinion & a far more accurate rating than the OTT ratings from other reviewers.

Better than most shows that are of DCs characters, but the only thing that elevates this show above the other DC shows is the budget for its cgi & the choices of how & when to use it, other than that the stories /plots are still as silly as the other shows, but this episode the writers & producers take a leaf out of the CWs way of doing things by actually crapping all over the entire Superman mythos, something that was already done in the CW TV series Supergirl, so now not only did Supergirl arrive on earth before Superman but Morgan Edge arrived before both of them, I get that these execs want a fresh new retelling of a character that has had his story told several times in movies & TV shows but to belittle the character into being just another alien & not even the original survivor of a dying planet is just taking a dump all over the entire Superman story, but this is par for the course where Geoff Johns is involved.

This show is well made & looks every bit the expensive & professional product that it is but the stories lack the exciting & positive nature that this character should be about & instead opts to mimic the dark & constant dreary nature of the Zak Snyder abomination, not a single episode of this show so far is anything other than doom & gloom, almost none of the endless add on characters enhance or further any of the stories except to add dull, drab pointless drama.

Can't help but feel this show is an opportunity missed, exploring the development of superman's son & his emerging powers & ultimately his place alongside Superman in their crime fighting instead of the boring Morgan Edge drama.
