Christian Bale is known for his insane transformations and some of the most critically acclaimed roles in Hollywood. The 50-year-old Oscar winner has worked with some of the greatest directors and delivered some critically and commercially successful flicks. However, he also has a fair share of flop films in his career. Interestingly, many of these projects even came after his highly successful, The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Trilogy
Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy is one of the most significant works in Christian Bale’s filmography. His incredible performance as the Caped Crusader in Nolan’s gritty world elevated the trilogy’s quality and made Bale a household name. Surprisingly, even that stardom could not save the American Psycho fame from some of the biggest flops in his career.

When making The Dark Knight films, Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan had a pact that they would walk away if they were fortunate enough to make three films. The pair stayed true to this vision and concluded their Batman adventure after The Dark Knight Rises. But if Nolan were to make a potential fourth film in the series, one fan had the perfect villain and actor suggestion for the Oppenheimer director.
Fan creates a trailer for a potential fourth film in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy
The fan made a concept trailer in 2012 with clips from previous films and chose The Riddler as the villain for the film. The fan’s choice of actor to play The Riddler was the Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck. While the fan’s idea of a fourth film never came to fruition, it still has a lot of potential.

Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper is working on a biopic of the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen. More details here.
Another day, and another biopic is reportedly in the works in La La Land. World of Reel reports that Scott Cooper, director of The Pale Blue Eyes, Crazy Heart and Out Of The Furnace, has signed on to make a film about Bruce Springsteen.
Springsteen is consulting with Cooper on the film, which will portray Springsteen’s recording of his 1982 album, Nebraska. It was the source of one of Springsteen’s biggest hits, Born In The USA.
No one has been cast in the film yet, and it’ll be interesting to see who takes on the role of the Boss. Music biopics tend to do pretty well both at the box office and in industry circles. Portraying Freddy Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody brought Rami Malek an Oscar and Taron Edgerton...

They blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night but will they greenlight a movie in Hollywood? Rumors are swirling that a film may be in the works about Bruce Springsteen’s iconic album “Nebraska”, released in 1982. A Bruce biopic seems almost like a given at this point in his life and career; that this supposed project will focus on his most unique and thematically heavy album is all the more promising. Word right now is that Springsteen is in talks with director Scott Cooper, whose Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace and Black Mass had some dark influences themselves.
“Nebraska” – released between double album “The River” and his reigning best-seller “Born in the USA” – captures some of Springsteen’s darkest lyrics, with songs about people who, as he put it, “just get shot off somewhere where nothing seems to matter.” To give a more direct example, the opening...

Apple Original Films have set up the new film Echo Valley from a script by Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby with Sydney Sweeney and Julianne Moore attached to star. Hailing from Apple Studios, and produced by Scott Free Films and The Walsh Company, the film will be directed by Michael Pearce.
The pic will star Moore as ‘Kate Garrett,’ who is reeling from a personal tragedy and spends her days boarding and training horses at Echo Valley Farm, twenty-two secluded, picturesque acres in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Late one night, her wayward daughter, ‘Claire’ (played by Sweeney), arrives at her doorstep, frightened, trembling, and covered in someone else’s blood. From that simple premise, Echo Valley becomes a heart-pounding thriller about just how far a mother will go to save her child.

This post contains spoilers for the ending of "The Pale Blue Eye."
With a 130-minute runtime, Netflix's "The Pale Blue Eye," based on the novel by Louis Bayard, reaches a fiery climax with about half an hour left to go. Just when you think it's over and detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) has solved the central murder mystery, the movie keeps going, delivering a final twist ending on top of that.
Viewers are with Landor the whole film as he investigates the grisly death and organ removal of more than one cadet at the West Point military academy with the help of his new friend, Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling). Suspicion falls on the Marquis family, and in a histrionic scene, we see three members of that family, including Poe's love interest, Lea Marquis (Lucy Boynton), about to remove his telltale heart in a Satanic ritual.

Christian Bale is charting a new career path: producer.
After receiving his first such credit in the fall, on David O. Russell’s Amsterdam, he snagged another one on his new film, The Pale Blue Eye. But Bale is not one to sneak the credit into his contracts as some vanity gift.
“Like everybody, I’m stunned sometimes at the amount of producers you see in the credits,” Bale explained to THR at the recent premiere of the Netflix film that he produced for filmmaker and frequent collaborator Scott Cooper.
“I did it on Amsterdam and with this because I was there right from the inception. I helped to put the films together, and mostly as a creative producer, a right-hand man, sort of a consigliere,” Bale continued. “I can be there to whisper in their ear, reminding them of how we put it together, what the intent was, etc.

It’s 1830 on the snowy New York campus of the United States Military Academy and a young cadet has been found hanged. The coroner and others will eventually discover that the man’s heart has been stolen from his chest and a portion of a note, yet to be deciphered, has been hidden away, clutched in the dead man’s hardened grip. Not to worry: Christian Bale is on the case. The Pale Blue Eye stars Bale as Detective Augustus Landor, the kind of guy whose reputation (a dead wife,...

The opening image of "The Pale Blue Eye" reveals "a young cadet who has met his maker hanging from a noose on a tree next to the Hudson River." That's how filmmaker Scott Cooper describes the shot from what he calls his most accessible film, a gothic murder mystery set in the 19th century. The director behind "Crazy Heart," "Hostiles," and "Out of the Furnace" is no stranger to bleakness, but in the case of his latest film, he gets to play with Edgar Allan Poe's macabre sense of humor to make a movie that is, in fact, his most conventionally entertaining movie.
Based on Louis Bayard's novel, the story follows a young Poe (Harry Melling) and a weary detective, Augustus Landor (Christian Bale), joining forces to solve a series of murders in West Point, New York. Often, "The Pale Blue Eye" plays as a buddy comedy between the two men,...

Poe Boy: Cooper Fails to Find the Exquisite Beauty in Eerie, Dreary Period Mystery
You’ll certainly be reduced to the mindset of the weak and weary after pondering the endless midnight dreary of Scott Cooper’s The Pale Blue Eye. Yet another stab at genre following his more vivacious (by comparison) examination of the Wendigo legend in 2021’s Antlers (read review), this adaptation of the 2003 romanticized plundering of Edgar Allan Poe by Louis Bayard likely reads better as printed pulp than visualized as a glossy, gothic whodunit.
Cooper’s third outing with Christian Bale (serving as producer) following the stilted melodrama 2013’s Out of the Furnace (read review) and their portrait of the harrowing heritage of white man’s violence in Hostiles (2017) denies the celebrated actor any room to stretch (seeing as he plays another disenchanted wretch who’s headhunted for his specific skills as a dramatic catalyst).…

Wednesday Addams may see her title of “Netflix’s resident goth detective” challenged by the release of The Pale Blue Eye. Scott Cooper’s period thriller places a young Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) at the centre of a fictionalised murder mystery in upstate New York. But, to Cooper’s credit, the film feels a lot less silly in practice than the one-sentence elevator pitch of Louis Bayard’s source novel. It’s a handsome adaptation, albeit with an unnecessary bit of literary celebrity dragged alongside it.
It’s 1830, and veteran detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) has been summoned to Westpoint Military Academy, where Poe happens to be stationed (the only detail true to biography). The dead body of a cadet, found hanged under suspicious circumstances, has been desecrated post-mortem – his heart carved from his chest and spirited away. Just over a decade ago, Scott Cooper called Christian Bale to offer him the starring role in Out of the Furnace, which he wrote specifically for Bale. Cooper was only a couple years removed from his feature directorial debut, Crazy Heart, which landed Jeff Bridges a long-deserved Oscar. Since Cooper tailor made Crazy Heart just for Bridges, he took the same approach with Bale and Furnace, except Bale politely declined the invitation at first. After all, Bale, who was still a young father at the time, was also nearing production on Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups, and to top it all off, he had to promote his final Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, in between it all.

Christian Bale and director Scott Cooper, who have previously teamed up for 2013’s Out of the Furnace and 2017’s Hostiles, have come together for their third collaboration, Netflix’s The Pale Blue Eye.
Based off of a novel by Louis Bayard, the film stars Bale as an 1830s detective in West Point, New York, investigating a series of murders at the United States Military Academy with the help of a young Edgar Allan Poe, who was a cadet at the academy.
“Scott had first sent this to me about 10 years ago; he’s a very prolific writer and has an abundance of projects that we are talking about continually,” Bale told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, joking, “He felt like he wanted me to get a bit more gray and bit more crow’s feet and...

Crazy Heart writer-director Scott Cooper joined Deadline’s Contenders: LA3C awards-season event to discuss The Pale Blue Eye, his adaptation of the Louis Bayard novel about a gruesome West Point murder committed while none other than Edgar Allan Poe was a cadet in the military academy.
Cooper teams with Christian Bale for the third time, with Bale playing a world-weary detective summoned when a cadet is found hanged from a tree on the grounds of the academy. It goes from suicide to something else when a telltale heart clue emerges: someone has removed the cadet’s ticker, after he was cut down. The detective meets a particularly sharp cadet named Poe (Harry Melling), and from there, it’s a whodunit with the creator of that genre at the center.

Christian Bale reunites with his Out of the Furnace director, Scott Cooper, for a new Netflix film that uncovers the origins of Edgar Allen Poe. Cooper is a director that likes to emphasize atmosphere in his movies, helming films such as Crazy Heart and Black Mass; none of his movies are picturesque nor glamorous. “We are all influenced by our surroundings, our atmosphere, the environments in which we live,” the director says as he takes a similar approach with his new gothic film, The Pale Blue Eye.
The official Netflix synopsis for the film reads,
“West Point, 1830. In the early hours of a gray winter morning, a cadet is found dead. But after the body arrives at the morgue, tragedy becomes savagery when it’s discovered that the young man’s heart has been skillfully removed. Fearing irreparable damage to the fledgling military academy, its leaders turn to a local detective,...

In the trailer for upcoming film “Pale Blue Eye,” Christian Bale is investigating a murder in 1830s upstate New York.
Netflix has released the first look at the American Gothic mystery film, in which Bale plays veteran detective Augustus Landor. Based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel of the same name, the film follows Landor as he is called to investigate a killing at the United States Military Academy in West Point. With a serial killer on the prowl, Augustus enlists Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) to help him solve the case. Poe, the renowned writer and poet known for “The Raven,” “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “A Dream Within a Dream,” is introduced as young cadet at the military academy.
“Down, down, down came the hot thrashing flurry,” Melling’s Poe says in a teaser released on Oct. 27. “Darkest night, black with hell-charneled fury, leaving only that deathly pale blue eye.

Christian Bale is a fascinating actor, the type of performer that has played so many complex and storied characters, film fans can all name a completely different favorite role, and they'd all be correct. While plenty will forever associate him with the gruff voice of the Christopher Nolan "Batman" trilogy, others will picture him donning a frosted transparent raincoat whenever they hear "Hip to Be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News after his horrific turn in "American Psycho."
In his latest project, Bale is reuniting with director Scott Cooper in "The Pale Blue Eye" for Netflix. Netflix has released its first look at the upcoming Christian Bale-starrer The Pale Blue Eye.
Based on Louis Bayard’s book of the same name, the 1830-set movie sees Bale portray Augustus Landor, a former police detective who’s been called upon to unravel the murder of a cadet at West Point. Things take a darker turn when, after the body is moved to the morgue, it’s uncovered that his heart has been removed.
Up against a seemingly unbreakable code of silence among the cadets and the pressures of a fledging academy desperate to protect its reputation, the world-weary detective turns to one of their own to help him solve the case. That man, with his disdain for the military’s rigors and a penchant for poetry, will become known as Edgar Allan Poe.

For their latest collaboration, Christian Bale and Scott Cooper have teamed up with Edgar Allen Poe. In the new Netflix thriller “The Pale Blue Eye,” Bale’s local detective enlists the help of a young Poe (played by Harry Melling) to solve a grisly murder. The streaming service released a first look at the project on Thursday.
Bale and Cooper previously worked together on “Out of the Furnace” and “Hostiles.” This new film looks similarly dark, judging by the moody and snow-covered images offered in the brief teaser.
Based on the book by Louis Bayard and written and directed by Cooper, “The Pale Blue Eye” is set in 1830 and focuses on the investigation into the death of a West Point cadet. “But after the body arrives at the morgue, tragedy becomes savagery when it’s discovered that the young man’s heart has been skillfully removed,” the Netflix description reads.

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Christian Bale's latest, "The Pale Blue Eye," which also represents another collaboration for him with director Scott Cooper. Bale, who is coming off of this summer's "Thor: Love and Thunder," previously worked with Cooper on movies like "Out of the Furnace" and "Hostiles." This time? They're headed back to the 1800s for a mystery that ties into the king of old-time gothic spookiness, Edgar Allan Poe.
In this case, the legendary author behind "The Raven" and "The Masque of the Red Death" is played by Harry Melling, of "The Queen's Gambit" fame. So, how is it that Poe crosses paths with a man trying to solve a murder? Let's have a look-see.

Christian Bale stars in David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam,” in theaters this weekend, the latest film of the actor’s illustrious career. And what a career it is. Bale is undoubtedly one of this generation’s most in-demand, top acting talents, excellent in anything from blockbusters like “Thor: Love & Thunder” to more independent fare like Todd Haynes’ “Velvet Goldmine” or Scott Cooper’s “Out Of The Furnace.” But according to Bale, there’s a secret influence to the career he’s had so far, and it’s none other than arguably the best film actor in Hollywood: Leonardo DiCaprio.
