Chennai, March 22: Known for directing path-breaking films such as "Tahaan" and "Malli", cinematographer-filmmaker Santosh Sivan, says he will direct commercial films with stars when he runs out of scripts that are close to his heart.
"Because I make films close to my heart doesn't mean I don't enjoy other kind of films. When I'm not shooting films, I work as a cinematographer for 'mass' films. When I'm done with all the scripts that are very close to my heart, I'll make commercial films with stars," Sivan told Ians.
He finds them fun.
"It's great fun to enter into commercial films' narrative. I think commercial.

Seasoned actress Sarika, who started her career as a child artist in the late 1960s, says in over four decades there has been no marked improvement in the condition of young ones on movie sets and it can still be called 'child labour'. <p /><p>'Basic problems are still the same. It is said they have teachers coming on sets and proper time is given for homework, but nothing of that sort happens. It never used to happen then and things are still the same,' the 48-year-old, who is a mother of two daughters, told Ians in an interview. </p><p>'It's more glamourised now, but it can still be termed as child labour. Children are smarter now and that's why they are easier to work with,' said the actress who was seen as a child actor in films like 'Aashirwad', 'Satyakam', 'Jyoti' and 'Haar Jeet'.

But the cinematographer-filmmaker shooting for Mani Ratnam's Raavan in distant inaccessible Chalakudy in Kerala didn't know about the triumph until three days after it happened! Yes, the winner of the top award 'The German Star Of India' award at Stuttgart Film Festival was Santosh Sivan's film Tahaan about the adventures of a little boy and his pet donkey in militant Kashmir. Kunal Kohli who was the only Indian jury member at the awards said, "There were other top contenders like Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday, Piyush Jha's Sikandar, Nishikant Kamat's Mumbai Meri Jaan, Umkanth Thumrugoti's 7 Days In Slow Motion , and Gabricha Paus' The Damned Rain. Sunday at midnight, at the 10th Olympia International Film Festival For Children Santosh Sivan's much-acclaimed Hindi film Tahaan, about the relationship between a little boy and his pet donkey, walked away with several major awards including the topmost awards for Best Feature Film, the Cifej (Centre International du Film pour Les Enfant Et La Jeunesse) award and the Unicef award for Best film. "That covers the entire major awards in the films category," said an excited Sivan, minutes after the Olympia awards concluded in Greece. Sadly, little Purav Bhandare who plays the main part in Tahaan, couldn't be in Greece for the awards because of school and also the Festival's apparent inability to fund Purav's flight to the Festival. "What makes these awards special is the fact that every category has a separate set of jury members, so it was basically three different set of jury members giving the three awards to Tahaan.

Karina who has worked with the crème de la crème of world cinema headed the jury of the Pusan Film Festival this year. Santosh Sivan and Karina hit it off from the word go.
