The story is loosely based on the college experience of writer/director Todd Sklar.
Sklar prefers to spell the word "sandwich" like this: sandwhiche. The word is written that way in the entire script, as well as the trailer for the film. He also pronounces it like he spells it.
Kamau Bilal would edit the film overnight during production, allowing them to view rough cut scenes of the previous day's footage during the morning production meetings. This allowed the filmmakers to watch their first full rough cut of the film 5 days after wrapping principal photography.
Other than an Arri interview kit, and 6 portable fluorescent lights, every light on set was built by hand from wood and electrical parts bought at a hardware store.
After shooting the first 80% of the film on nights and weekends over the course of 2 and half months, the film was completely re-shot in 18 days, which was the allotment of time they had scheduled to finish the last 20% of production.
