Moses Pergament studied at the conservatory in Saint Petersburg, at the University of Helsinki and at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. In 1923 he became a music critic in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. He was for a long time denied to become a member of the Association of Swedish Composers because of his Jewish and foreign origin, despite composer Hilding Rosenberg's repeated proposition in the 1930s. Moses Pergament was a Swedish citizen since 1918.
