Three Days Earlier
Sophie Devereux wakes up in her bed alone She looks at the empty side of the bed next to her, and she gets a text on her phone saying they'll meet her there. She goes down to breakfast and considers saying she can't make it, but reconsiders. Sophie gets a text from Parker saying she misses Sophie, and Sophie huddles on the bed.
At her late husband Nate Ford's gravesite, Sophie kneels by the stone and places flowers. Her former teammate Eliot Spencer joins her, and then Alec Hardison and Parker. The four of them go to Sophie's house and talk about Leverage International and the twelve teams they've formed, and toast Nate who is one year gone. Parker mentions Eliot's food trucks, Hardison talks about how he's using satellites to coordinate refugee efforts. Sophie finally tells them to stop and walks away. Parker goes over and tells Sophie that they should steal something to distract Sophie from her grief, and the others agree. They take Sophie to the nearby Boston Museum of Art and go in past protesters protesting Maxwell's family. The others go off to check the place.
Sophie overhears Maxwell arguing with the curator about how the issues with his family have nothing to do with his art. Maxwell threatens to pull his Rembrandt from the show, and calls in his lawyer Harry. Maxwell tells Harry to fix the situation, and Harry says that they can cancel Maxwell's next donation. The curator says that they don't want Maxwell's money, and Maxwell threatens to call the museum board and walks off. Sophie goes over to Harry and points out that Maxwell isn't that likable, and Harry explains that the Maxwell family has donated millions to the museum, and Maxwell is a collector.
Sophie follows Harry to a gallery where he's looking at the piece Maxwell donated, and says that it was formerly stolen. She knows all about the theft, and admits that she stole it. Sophie figures that the cameras are cut, and Parker and Hardison join her and say they already know. The alarms go off and Harry directs everyone out, and he stays behind as the security gates come down. Once he's alone, he cuts a painting down and finds Sophie watching him. She points out that he has two-minute window to steal the Rembrandt and should carry on. Parker comes up, steals Harry's wallet, and checks his ID. Hardison runs a background check on Harry, and Harry works for bad people.
Parker and Hardison go to wipe the camera while Sophie admires Harry's work. He explains that he learned his technique from Youtube, and she works out that he has access to a hidden employee door. Harry accidentally sets off a hidden alarm on the painting, and Sophie tells Harry to leave the painting and they have to go. Harry goes through the door, and Eliot is on the other side and punches Harry unconscious. Sophie tells the others that Harry is the distraction, and Eliot has to carry Harry out on his own. Back at the house, Harry wakes up and finds the team staring down at him.
Six Months Earlier
Harry is with Maxwell and Bligh, and says thy can protect $100 million and get the rest in settlements. Maxwell refuses to settle, saying it's not his family's fault "addicts" took advantage of the medication his family produced as part of their pharmaceutical business. Harry pints out all the evidence against Maxwell for making the drug deliberately addictive, and if Maxwell agrees then Harry will convince each of the litigants to settle. Maxwell finally agrees to employ Harry, who insists he's not on anybody's side.
Later, Harry goes to the trailer home of one of the litigants, Cole Hoskins, who prepares to attack Harry with a shovel until his sister Jenny tells Cole to go inside. She says that she has power of attorney, and is tempted to beat Harry herself. Harry says that the company wants to settle, and Jenny explains that they had to sell their grandparents' house the second out of three times Coles was in rehab because of the medication. Harry convinces all of the litigants to settle and goes back to Maxwell, and Maxwell tells Harry that they're not settling. He figures the litigants will die in the years the cases will take, and he has plenty of money. Harry is shocked at Maxwell's plan, and Maxwell assures Harry that he couldn't have done it without him.
The Present
Harry tells the team his story, and Sophie figures he felt guilty. He explains that he locked up all of Maxwell's money in the Bank of Malta, with airtight security. Harry also wanted to hurt Maxwell, taking his painting in eight museums across the country, rather than his money, but Eliot figures that it's about Maxwell's reputation, not the art. Sophie figures Maxwell is afraid of his legitimacy being taken away from him. She insists that she's retired and they're not going to help Harry, and the others point out that Sophie was the one who spotted Harry, and had them bring him there.
Harry figures he can trust them, and Sophie figures that Maxwell is looking for a big score to eliminate all the scandal associated with him. She figures they can hook Maxwell with a lost Rembrandt, and review Nate's all files. He was checking a case about a team of thieves who stole 13 paintings from a museum, including a Rembrandt. Anybody who found and returned one of the paintings would be a hero. If someone returned a fake of one of the paintings, their reputation in the arty world would be ruined. Hardison points out that Sophie already has a plan, and she agrees to do the one job and they'll need Harry as an inside man. She says "Let's go steal..." in honor of Nate.
Later, Sophie and Parker go into the museum and find Maxwell making a call about his name being taken out of the brochure. Parker fakes being on the phone to someone, and says that she's an expert on Monet's collection. Maxwell overhears her and picks up the Invigtation-0only invitation she's "accidentally" dropped.
In the house's garage, Hardison sets up his 3d printer and the program he uses to make forgeries. They check Nate's collection of stolen master piece to find the right date for the canvas, and Eliot and Hardison go in an auction house and convince the staff a steam pipe is going to burst, so they should all leave. Once they leave, the team and their people set up their own auction with Parker as the auctioneer. Maxwell comes in and takes a seat, and Maxwell "wins". Parker tells Maxwell that she can't sell the item to him because his name has been flagged, because the seller doesn't want his piece seized in a future lawsuit.
Eliot is listening, steps in, and says that Maxwell is known as a drug dealer, and steps in to take the item. Maxwell goes to make call and tells his people to find whoever flagged him Sophie and Eliot stage a conversation where Eliot threatens to send Sophie back to her humble beginning if she doesn't get high-ticket items like he wants. Maxwell overhears them, and Eliot walks off. As planned, Maxwell approaches Sophie and she plays being upset, and he invites her to his place later for a proposal. Sophie agrees, and she walks over to a watching Parker and Eliot and tells them that it was exhilarating. Meanwhile, Maxwell has his people do a full security check on Sophie.
Later at Maxwell's place, Maxwell has dinner with Sophie. He says that he had someone check up on Sophie, and Harry comes in and says that after running the background check, he can confirm that Sophie is legitimate, but her "boss", Eliot, is the son of a mobster and apparently buying art at random. When Sophie starts to go, Maxwell asks her to oversee his Monet collection. Sophie agrees, and tells Maxwell that Eliot is flipping art to cover his drug money, and his father stole the Rembrandt along with the other twelve pieces of art. Maxwell asks Sophie to help him screw Eliot.
Later, Eliot "procures" a failing trucking company. He tells Sophie that he figures that as the son of a Boston gangster, she wrote the part with Nate in mind. Eliot offers to talk with her about her loss, and Sophie says that it is her way of talking about it. Sophie talks to Harry privately and says that Nate burned with anger and loss, but at least he burned.
Maxwell comes to the company and approached Eliot, and says that he wants to buy the Rembrandt. He says that he has Harry working with the IRS so Eliot can never sell the painting, and he'll pay Eliot $25 million for the $40 million painting, and then give it back once it's authenticated.
Later, the team brings the fake painting to the company in one of Eliot's food trucks. Eliot takes it in, while Hardison shows Sophie how the truck is now a "miniature Lucille" that has computer equipment for Leverage International. Meanwhile, Maxwell calls and cancels his meeting with Harry, with Eliot. Eliot arrives and finds four of Maxwell's security thugs waiting for him, along with Bligh, a woman who provides security for Maxwell. Blight recognizes Eliot for who he really is, and says the audition is for the thugs. Eliot smugly describes how they'll attack him, and how he'll defeat them. She figures he's doing so to get them to second-guess themselves, and Eliot smiles and then defeats them and walks off.
In the truck, Harrys suggests they offer up another painting. Sophie advises against it, warning that the con is blown. Hardison checks Blight's security company, Quality Protection, and confirms they have offices all over, and they tend to work for bad people and are more like a private army. He suggests they should run, but Sophie refuses to abandon her "home" where Nate lived. Eliot barges in and grabs Harry, grabbing him and figuring that Harry betrayed them. Harry insists that he didn't and that working with the team in insane. He says that he wanted to make amends and tried to track down everyone he and Maxwell hurt.
The Past
Harry goes to Cole's house and finds it's been posted for foreclosure. A neighbor tells him that Jenny left, and that Cole OD'd and hospital bills took what was left of Jenny's money.
Tre Present
Harry says that if he can't be forgiven, he's trying to take something from people like Maxwell.
Later, Harry goes back to the museum and breaks in as the alarms go off. He burns the Rembrandt and laughs in triumph.
The next day, Maxwell calls Harry into his home. One of Maxwell's bodyguards immediately beats Harry, and Maxwell finishes his call to his insurance company having his funds transferred and giving his account routing number and password. Maxwell finishes his call, and tells Harry that it's for the Rembrandt Harry burned. When Harry denies burning the painting, the bodyguard beats him again. His employer points out that there's no evidence but he's left with Harry, and the bodyguard points a gun at Harry's head. Maxwell says that he can easily make it look like Harry threatened him, then gets a call from museum wanting to apologize to him for their bad security. He tells Harry that he's called his firm and had Harry fired, and goes to the museum.
The insurance agent, Connie Lieu, is at the museum with the curator. Maxwell comes in, and they ask him why he hired someone to burn a fake Rembrandt. Harry had Hardison make the fake, and Parker broke in and swapped the real one for the fake. Maxwell says that it's a mistake, but they figure he sold the real painting and torched the fake to collect the insurance. The curator has called the other museum displaying Maxwell's painting, and confirmed they're all fakes, since Parker broke into the other eight museums and put in fakes. Maxwell storms out and calls his insurance company, and discovers the person he called earlier to give his passwords was a fake.
The team pulls up in a car, and Harry tells Maxwell that he stole the passwords when he was in Maxwell's house earlier. Later at Sophie's house, Harry says that gloating was fun. Hardison tells Harry that they sold the painting and are sending the money to the people Maxwell hurt, but they couldn't find everyone. He tells Harry that the lawyer has a long way to go to fully redeeming himself, and he has many things to do to pay penance. Conning Maxwell isn't a win, but it's the start. Harry admits to Sophie that Hardison is right, and a newscast about Maxwell comes in saying he's fled to Panama. Harry tells the others that Maxwell's family had one more emergency fund, and Parker tells Sophie that it's her call if they go after Maxwell. Sophie says that she said one job, but the job isn't done. As the others go to pack, Sophie looks at her and Nate's wedding ring on her finger.
