Few directors venture into both animation and live-action due to the vastly different skill sets required. Some successful directors like Wes Anderson and Guillermo del Toro have mastered both mediums. Experimenting with different animation styles can bring a fresh perspective to storytelling for versatile directors.
Most directors choose to stick with either animated movies or live-action, but some directors are versatile enough to excel at both. Animation and live-action require vastly different skill sets for directors. This is why so few directors stray from their comfort zones. Even some of the most adventurous directors working today have yet to cross over from live-action to animation. However, some live-action directors have made brilliant animated movies in recent years. It's becoming more often for successful directors to dip their toes into animation.
Some directors see animation as just another option in their tool kit, and they'll resort to it if they believe that's what the story requires.

Shah Rukh Khan has been ruling our hearts and the Hindi film industry for more than 30 years now. The actor portrays every character, whether villain, hero, or soldier, with unwavering conviction. Often, his fans say that Bollywood is known worldwide because of Srk. Without working in any international movies, Khan is well-known even in Hollywood.
Often, many wonder why Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t work in any Hollywood movies. Last month, the Dunki actor revealed that he was offered Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire (2008). In the film, Srk was offered to play the role of the host of the TV game show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’. When Khan rejected the offer, Anil Kapoor was roped in to play the character.

Review: Kung Fu Panda 4 is pretty standard fare for a new movie in a franchise that’s gone inactive. Watching Kung Fu Panda 4, I couldn’t help but think of Cars 3 or Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, which were both “passing the torch” sequels that didn’t really work out that way. Cars 3 all but ended the franchise; while Ghost Protocol was so badass, people fell in love with Tom Cruise all over again, making the notion of him passing on his franchise to a would-be-successor (in that case Jeremy Renner) ludicrous. All that is to say Kung Fu Panda 4 does the usual thing for a long-awaited sequel, with the movie designed...

Léa Seydoux shared that she finds it “easier” to work as an actor in Europe compared to America.
The French actress, who has also starred in a number of big Hollywood franchises, including James Bond’s Spectre and No Time to Die, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Dune: Part Two, recently opened up to Harper’s Bazaar U.K. about her experiences working on American projects.
“The industry in America…I find it harsh on women,” Seydoux admitted. “It’s hard for women to age. I don’t want to be afraid not to be desirable or to lose my contract. In America it’s economic, and when it becomes a matter of making money, you lose your freedom. I don’t feel comfortable with the fact that you have to tick all the boxes. Five years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount is backtracking from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

The Mission: Impossible movies are often rightfully regarded as the apex of what is possible in contemporary blockbuster filmmaking. Particularly in the wake of Brad Bird’s smashing fourth Mission entry, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – a film whose spectacular alchemy of death-defying stunts, movie-star camaraderie, exotic jet-setting, and the blindsiding magnetism of Tom Cruise helped solidify the template for subsequent entries – these movies have been leading the blockbuster pack. Mr. Cruise has always known what his audience wants, and he’s never been shy about giving it to them. Don’t believe us? Go ahead and check the box office tabs for a little movie called Top Gun: Maverick.

Actor Sylvester Stallone has a piece of advice for actors who love doing their own stunts on their action-filled movies. Needless to say, whenever you hear the word ‘Stunts’ your mind automatically goes to the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Tom Cruise himself. Apart from him, there are many other actors in Hollywood who find it thrilling to perform their own stunts, including Charlize Theron and Jason Statham.

However, no matter how much adrenaline may come from filming dangerous action sequence, Sylvester Stallone believes that no one should do their own stunts. In fact, he learned this the hard way while filming a fight scene for one of his most popular films which led to the actor obtaining serious injuries.

Director Edward Zwick takes responsibility for the failure of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, saying he misjudged what audiences wanted from the story and character. Zwick says he would return for Jack Reacher 3 if Tom Cruise was interested. The sequel was a critical and box office disappointment, grossing only $162.1 million worldwide and earning criticism for its by-the-numbers plot and unexciting action.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back director Edward Zwick addresses the movie's lackluster box office performance. Based on the bestselling books by Lee Child, the first Jack Reacher movie was released in 2012, introducing Tom Cruise as the titular former Military Police Officer in an outing that earned somewhat lukewarm reviews from critics but proved to be a draw for audiences. Zwick took over from director Christopher McQuarrie for the 2016 sequel, which follows the character as he attempts to prove the innocence of his former Army major. The film failed to perform,...

Exclusive: Christopher McQuarrie has major change in his representation. He has left CAA, his longtime manager Ken Kamins at Key Creatives, and his attorney David Fox. I’m told he will be represented by Matt Galsor at Greenberg Glusker. He is the attorney for Tom Cruise, with whom McQuarrie has been a regular collaborator on the Mission: Impossible blockbuster films.
This is a shocker reverberating around town. It sounds like McQuarrie has a lot of his runway lit going into the future; among other things, he is producing the outer space movie that Cruise and director Doug Liman are planning with Universal, NASA and Space X. I understand there wasn’t a lot of drama here in the conveyance of the exit, but if McQuarrie has his dance card set far into the future, it certainly seems like he will be saving a lot of money in commissions. Anil Kapoor’s Fighting Spirit: On Four Decades of Film, the ‘Slumdog’ Effect, and One Heck of a Year
Anil Kapoor still gets meetings he can trace back to “Slumdog Millionaire.”
Chatting with IndieWire shortly after the premiere of Viacom18’s “Fighter,” the Indian actor is one of the rare global stars to enjoy “crossover success” — a buzzy term that, these days, seems to mean less crossing over and more crossing back-and-forth. Indian film stars, once compelled to journey West to Hollywood, now enjoy rich storytelling opportunities at home that also exist abroad. Between “Fighter,” “Animal,” a remake of “The Night Manager,” and daughter Rhea’s TIFF premiere, Kapoor’s last 12 months demonstrate the diversity of projects available for Indian actors today — though he still gets the most worldwide acknowledgement for “Slumdog.”
“I get really surprised sometimes at the kind of people who still know me, still remember me, and want to work with me. It’s still continuing,” Kapoor told IndieWire. “As a matter of fact, I insist...

The title Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One hurt the film's box office performance and limited the potential audience for its direct sequel. The title change to Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning could revitalize the franchise and allow for a fresh start. The upcoming eighth installment, now titled Mission: Impossible 8, has the potential to attract a larger audience and reinvigorate the franchise.
While Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible film series, received excellent audience and critical reviews upon the film’s theatrical release this past summer, the film was nonetheless a box-office disappointment. The movie became the lowest-grossing Mission: Impossible film in over fifteen years, since the 2006 installment Mission: Impossible III, which put the franchise in hibernation for over five years until the release of the 2011 installment Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.

The Mission: Impossible franchise has some of the most quotable lines ever written. That's because if the James Bond movies set the formula for action movies, the Mi franchise perfected it. Every entry in the franchise has one or two mic drops, three to five emotional statements, and a bucket of quips.
A major reason for this is the execution. Even the cheesiest lines are given proper context to make them epic or natural-sounding. With so many great quotes across multiple films, there's an abundance of memorable lines. However, the greatest lines in the Mission: Impossible franchise are hilarious, brilliant, epic, and reveal something about the characters saying them.

A new VFX breakdown video reveals just how extensively Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One relies on digital effects. Mission: Impossible's practical stunts and filmmaking often overshadow the extensive and crucial role that VFX play in bringing the movies to life, including in non-action scenes. Unlike some of its contemporaries, Mission: Impossible's VFX often aren't jarring because they are used to enhance elements that were filmed practically.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One gets a new VFX breakdown video, revealing all the digital effects work that may have gone unnoticed. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the seventh installment in the long-running Mission: Impossible franchise sees Tom Cruise return as Imf agent Ethan Hunt to take down a rogue AI threat known as The Entity. The new film features some of the series' most breathtaking stunts yet, with McQuarrie and Cruise putting a big focus on practical action.

It took a minute for the Mission: Impossible franchise to really kick off as a pop-culture juggernaut. While the original 1996 movie was a massive hit, the first sequel in 2000 was divisive enough (though also enormously lucrative) to provide questions about what the long-term future of the series would be. The fourth film, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2011, revived both the franchise and the box office clout of Tom Cruise, in the process ensuring that the saga could continue on for the indefinite future. Since then, new Mission: Impossible titles have arrived at a steadier pace and with a lot more anticipation than the uncertainty that greeted the release of the sort of stuck-in-the-middle Mission: Impossible III. The recent showing from Ethan Hunt with Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One also had a disappointing box office (the lowest since the third film).

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.
Here’s everything coming to Amazon Prime Video and Freevee this month.

Tom Wilkinson, a character actor who was also adept when called upon to play leading parts, has died. The charismatic performer, able to embody both warm, relatable heroes and cunning villains, was 75.
Born in Leeds before moving to Canada and then Cornwall in childhood, Wilkinson knew he was destined to work in entertainment at the age of 18 when he was asked to direct a play.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) before forging a career in theatre, film and TV. In 1986, he got his first major screen role in mini-series First Among Equals, based on politician-turned-author Jeffrey Archer’s best-selling novel.
That kicked off a successful career on screens big and small, with his film resume including the likes of Shakespeare In Love, Batman Begins, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Girl With A Pearl Earring, The Patriot, Selma, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,...

2024 will see the release of several highly-anticipated 4-quels in popular franchises, including Kung Fu Panda 4, Despicable Me 4, and Bad Boys 4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes may be considered the best 4-quel in terms of quality, based on the critical success of the reboot franchise. Despicable Me 4 is expected to be the highest-grossing 4-quel at the box office, given the franchise's previous earnings exceeding $1 billion worldwide.
2024 will be another monumental year for movies, but it's also setting up to be the year of the "4-quel." After hitting the trilogy mark, the next step is crossing into fourth-entry territory with the third sequel or 4-quel. Mad Max: Fury Road is probably the best 4-quel in recent memory, coming 30 years after the third movie. Some other notable 4-quels include Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Jurassic World, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has had a lot of love interests throughout seven Mission: Impossible movies. The character even got married in Mission: Impossible III. The relationship between Hunt and Julia (Michelle Monaghan) in that third film was a surprise, as the character has many qualities that make him a great spy, colleague, and friend, but being in love never appeared to be one of them. The same happens with the actor who, in his last two decades, has almost stopped getting romantic interests, and when he does, there’s not that much sexual and romantic chemistry between Cruise and the actress they cast.
That’s what makes his on-screen relationship with co-star Hayley Atwell in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One such a different movie. This blatantly obvious chemistry often makes the action movie seem like something else entirely, and it seems like the creative team behind Dead Reckoning Part One embraced that.

Launch of Surat Diamond Bourse (Sdb) has catapulted it to a unique position as being the World’s largest office building surpassing Pentagon. If we remember, in most of the Hollywood movies Pentagon building invariably featured as a backdrop or a location for the films which catapulted this building to a place of eminence around the world. With the launch of Sdb, one hopes that Sdb henceforth holds fort in all the forms of cinematic exposition, be it cinema, Ott or serials from India and make it a must visit itinerary for travellers in the near future.

When we speak of actors who go the extra mile for authenticity, Tom Cruise stands tall. Known for performing his own stunts, Cruise has repeatedly left audiences breathless with his dedication to action scenes. In this article, we’ll explore seven stunts that truly encapsulate his daredevil spirit. The Sky Is Not the Limit In Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Cruise took authenticity to new heights—quite literally—by scaling the Burj Khalifa. We thought we’d have to recreate the building and do it in a more traditional way, and it was Tom who said, ‘No, I’m going to go out there,’ said...

Mission: Impossible movies have been searching for a replacement for Tom Cruise, but options are limited as he plans to leave the franchise. Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Ferguson were considered possible replacements, but both characters have been written out of the series. A Mission: Impossible movie without Cruise may not work due to his star power and the franchise's reliance on his daring stunts.
For more than a decade now, the Mission: Impossible movies have tried to introduce a new actor to replace Tom Cruise when he retires from the franchise, but the producers are running out of options. Since the original 1996 movie, Cruise has anchored the Mission: Impossible series with his lead turn as roguish Imf agent Ethan Hunt. But it’s only a matter of time before Cruise steps down from the franchise to focus on other projects, and his possible replacements are being increasingly limited.

After Tom Cruise had the biggest commercial success of his career with his last film, 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed nearly $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Cruise’s hot box office streak would continue with his latest film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the sequel to 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout and the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible film series, especially since the new film has received the best reviews of any movie in the long-running series.
However, these factors haven't been manifested in the box office performance of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which fell short of not only the box office performance of Mission: Impossible – Fallout but also the threshold for profitability. Indeed, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One seems to be the least commercially successful Mission: Impossible film over the past decade.

Survival expert Les Stroud analyzes the sandstorm chase scene in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, ultimately awarding it a six out of 10 for accuracy. The movement and visuals of the sandstorm are correct, and Tom Cruise wearing goggles and a scarf are a nice touch, but a vehicle's engine would not be able to operate while sucking in sand. The fourth Mission: Impossible movie remains a seminal entry in the franchise, marking the transition to a focus on major stunts and set pieces.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol's sandstorm scene gets put under the microscope by an expert, and there's one thing it gets quite wrong. Released in 2011, the fourth installment in the long-running Mission: Impossible franchise sees Tom Cruise return as Ethan Hunt to clear his name after the Imf is implicated in a bombing of the Kremlin. While the movie's standout sequence remains Cruise's Burj Khalifa stunt,...

The disappointing box office performance of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One has led to a title change for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8. Despite positive reviews for Dead Reckoning Part One, the need to change the sequel's title suggests a desire to shake up the franchise's formula and regain lost momentum. The underperformance of Dead Reckoning Part One highlights the vulnerability of even successful franchises and shows that brand recognition alone is no guarantee of success.
The news that Mission: Impossible 8 will reportedly change its title shows just how much the box office underperformance of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One affected the series. For a while there, the Mission: Impossible movies were on track to pull off a seemingly impossible box office achievement. While even successful franchises typically grow less profitable with each new sequel or, at best, maintain their success across various installments, the Mission Impossible...

There are several capable actors who can step into Tom Cruise's shoes and continue the Mission: Impossible franchise. Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, and Vanessa Kirby are among the actors who have the potential to lead the series. Michael B. Jordan, John David Washington, Iko Uwais, and Simu Liu possess the necessary talent and star power to bring a fresh direction to the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Tom Cruise is the face of the Mission: Impossible franchise as Ethan Hunt, and his synonymity with the series makes it hard - but not impossible - to replace him after his exit. While the world was already familiar with the Mission: Impossible IP in 1996 thanks to the popular television series, it was Cruise who redefined its cinematic landscape. Driven largely by Tom Cruise's death-defying Mission: Impossible stunts, the franchise morphed from a spy thriller to an adrenaline-pumping experience synonymous with Cruise's unyielding commitment to the role.

In a surprise to basically no one, Tom Cruise rides a motorbike off a cliff in the summer blockbuster “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” which was released in theaters this summer after three years of stop-and-start production and is now beginning its life on home video. The action superstar insists on doing his own stunt work, and has been talking about it since 1996, the year the first “Mission: Impossible” movie came out. In each successive movie, the stunts have gotten more intense: hanging off the tallest building in the world, attaching himself to the outside of an airplane while it takes off and flying his own helicopter through a treacherous mountain range.
But trying to quantify the cost to insure the action star can be a Hollywood Mission Impossible.

Women have proven themselves to be just as malicious and devious as male villains in movies. Female villains like Sabine Moreau, Amy Elliot Dunne, and Alex Forrest deserve more recognition for their disturbing deeds. These women, such as Mrs. Lovett and Rose Armitage, showcase the dark side of humanity and make for unforgettable villains.
When it comes to movies, women have risen to become some of the most iconic villains in history–even if some are far too underrated. If there’s one thing actors love, it’s an outrageous payday. If you’ve spent an evening rummaging through the lists of highest-paid actors in Hollywood, then you’ll understand the eyewatering amounts that a talented performer (and a talented agent) can earn for even a single production — certainly enough to make anyone hop on the next flight to Los Angeles and start over with the most publicized career choice in the world. To some extent, these numbers are justifiable. Getting to a point where your name is a brand in and of itself is a commodity no gifted performer should allow to go unexploited, but when your role is little more than a glorified cameo, such wages become fairly indefensible. Stories of actors receiving huge lumps of cash for just days of work are legendary on the internet but the greatest of all comes from an unlikely source:...

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol pushed boundaries by using a camera trick to capture Tom Cruise climbing and reacting to a sandstorm through a glass window. The stunt was filmed on a partial set piece in Vancouver, with the skyline and sandstorm added in post-production. The success of the Mission: Impossible movies is due in part to the dedicated behind-the-scenes artists who push the limits of filmmaking.

Author Stieg Larsson took the world by storm with his Millennium trilogy featuring three novels called The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. These novels were rapidly adapted for the big screen in Larsson's native Sweden, starring Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander and, consequently, putting the actress in the spotlight. In 2011, David Fincher took it upon himself to recreate the film for an American audience. Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo featured a phenomenal cast, including Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, and Christopher Plummer. The film was subject to universal acclaim, winning a number of accolades for its perfection.

The "Mission: Impossible" series has become easily my favorite film franchise over the course of the last decade. Not only is its consistency unmatched in today's Hollywood blockbuster landscape, but the franchise has pulled off the remarkable feat of remaining consistent; the later entries of the series are actually the best of the bunch. As the series has spanned 27 years now, people come to the "Mission: Impossible" films at different times. I'd say there are two major entry points. Obviously, you have Brian De Palma's original "Mission: Impossible," but I would also say Brad Bird's fourth installment, "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol," would be the other film where a new generation of people hopped in.
Mine wasn't either of these films. My first experience with Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt was J.J. Abrams' "Mission: Impossible III." This was a film that came out at the height of...

Every artist needs to get their start somewhere, and many celebrated filmmakers began by working in the world of television. Today it is a lot more common to see filmmakers switch back and forth between the two mediums. Directors like David Lynch, Jean-Marc Vallée, and Park Chan-wook will happily dip their toes into the world of TV and then go back to movies. However, before the era of streaming and prestige TV, these directors used their TV credits to break into film.
Many directors who broke out in the '60s and '70s got their start on TV, as it was becoming an exciting medium to test out new talent. Sadly, this group does not include many women, as they were being gate kept from the directors' chair for decades, and mobility between the mediums was much harder for them to achieve. After a lukewarm box office performance in its first three weeks, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One seems to have passed its fifth-weekend mission.
Paramount and Christopher McQuarrie's latest film has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing the half-billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office, thanks to its huge appeal in the overseas market. The movie, which marks the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, has had moderate performances in both domestic and international markets. The film, starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, has amassed nearly $160 million in North America and an even more noteworthy $362 million from overseas territories, culminating in cumulative global earnings of $522 million. However, the biggest positive for the film was its mere 29% decline in its fifth weekend at the domestic box office.

"Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" was not the film that turned the "Mission: Impossible" film franchise into the "Tom Cruise Stares Death in the Face" show. No, that honor belongs to "Mission: Impossible II," which opens with Cruise's Ethan Hunt free solo rock climbing in Moab, Utah (which Cruise did for real wearing a harness ... because of course he did). "Ghost Protocol" was, however, a pivotal turning point in the series in terms of both its storytelling and technical elements.
Where director John Woo tried to turn Ethan into an American James Bond with "Mission: Impossible II," director Brad Bird brought the character down to Earth a little in "Ghost Protocol," making him the sort of plucky hero with a knack for evading disaster by the skin of his teeth. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the film's crown jewel -- the sequence in which Ethan scales the tallest building in the world,...
