What all shows should aspire to be!
abbeley15 April 2019
This episode had everything one could ask for: a continuation story that we forgot about, a family reunion, an amazing story about comradery, a helicopter, an explosion, a great "Bones hits someone moment", and a ghost; somehow all put together in a fluid and wonderful way! My husband and I really like this show but this episode is certainly our favorite so far!

Graveyards, Ghosts and gravediggers.
absoluteparties20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Hi Bones Booth podcast, English Jan here again.

Oh no, the gravedigger is back, and this time she's got, Booth.

Let me start by saying that I love Booth in full hero mode.

In contrast poor little Dr Sweets calls shotgun, only to be dismissed with a shake of Cam's head. For the most part, Sweets is ignored in this episode only to reappear later on to become the team's moral compass.

I don't understand why Hodgins didn't run some test on the piece of evidence removed from his leg before handing it over to the FBI. That sounds to me like something Hodgins would do. But that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Angela is a very caring person, and twice during this episode takes Bones' feelings into account. Once before, she plays the record of her Ransome message and at the boundary marker, when she talks about the depth of feeling Bones and the team has for Booth.

Oh good, she's back, no, not the gravedigger, but the flirty Agent Parotta. Worse still, she's watching Bones and Hodgins. This seems creepy to me.

Cam is seemingly happy to go along with Bones in committing a felony, without any argument, showing her depth of feeling for her friend/ex-lover, Booth.

I love the touching scene between Teddy and Booth in the hold when Booth reveals his son's name. Great acting from both actors here.

Jared, finally man's up/steps up to help Bones secure Vega's body for the team to investigate.

The episode's best line comes from Teddy while talking with Booth, "You've never loved somebody and didn't tell them that you loved them?" Booth looks at him, doesn't answer him, and simply walks off. That look Booth gives Teddy through speaks a thousand words. Great acting from David here.

Booth's absolution from Teddy is touching. Finally, one ghost of Booth's is laid to rest.

I'm most surprised that Bones doesn't kiss Booth after she rescues Booth from the ship. In the heat of the moment, I'm sure most people would have done just that. (or maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part.)

The ending leaves me scratching my head as I'm unsure what to make of Teddy's appearance at the graveyard.

Overall I loved this episode, but I'm left wanting so much more from this episode.

The Ghost in the Machine
Hitchcoc1 February 2023
I'm the last person to accept the supernatural. I don't believe in ghosts or the paranormal. Still, at the center of this episode are the forensics and the work of the Jeffersonian crew. Boone has been kidnapped by the Gravedigger, who reappears from previous episodes. Instead of being put underground alive, he is in an old Navy ship that is going to be blown up. I can be forgiving of the "ghost" because everything that happens can be explained by the subconscious mind inventing what is necessary for Booth to forgive himself. This is an adventure story which draws from human experience that leads to a conclusion. I only have trouble with one moment. At the end we are led to believe that Brennan says hello to the guy while Booth talks to the girlfriend. Wish they hadn't done that.

It's Not Sexist 'Cause She's Mostly Fish

Warning: Spoilers
Ghosts and war flashbacks and serial killers, oh my!

The Gravedigger is back! Along with Thomas Vega (who seems to have a completely different face from the last time we saw him)

The episode is very fast moving from the get-go. Pre-theme song we already have a meeting at the FBI, Brennan getting ready to receive an award and Booth getting kidnapped by The Gravedigger.

Side note: Booth saying "I bet you are looking beautiful" to Brennan on the phone as well as them bickering are the ship crumbs I long for.

Sweets using one of Angela's shoes to try and defend himself is a lovely bit of levity amidst the drama and tension. He may have been better off using Brennan's chunky earrings though, those things are weapons in their own right.

Love the Brennan and Hodgins scenes throughout the episode, despite Brennan not trusting Hodgins after he stole the evidence from the FBI.

The scenes of Booth and his hallucination/ghost were a bit boring to me but it's nice to find out the origins of Parker's name.

Heather Taffet's face is so punchable, no wonder Brennan smacked her with a briefcase and toppled over her chair.

As much as I dislike Jared, I'm glad he did everything he could, including risk losing his job, to save Booth. As Brennan said, he owed his brother big time.

Very funny that Hodgins' conspiricy nut knowledge comes in handy - as per usual - when trying to find evidence on Taffet.

The emotion in that hug when Brennan saves Booth! You could feel the relief from both of them through the screen.

Overall, as intense as this episode is, it's not my favourite of those which focus on the Gravedigger. The entire squint squad coming together to save Booth was great to see but Booth's scenes left a lot to be desired.

One of the Best

Warning: Spoilers
A wonderful episode about Booth, captured by the Gravedigger, trapped on the container of some sort, on a ship rigged for destruction by the US Navy. Apparently, the USN sinks ships for reefs, etc. ... IMO, very well written; multiple subtasks being performed. The loss of Booth's young Corporal Parker, killed in combat, after Booth attempted to save him. Booth and Parker attempting to get off ship, with Parker helping him. The resolution of Booth's past guilt. The team, including Jared, working together to save Booth. The difference/change in ideas, especially from Booth. The visit to Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) ... the thousands of headstones ... always staggering to see. The foreshadowing of future events :-)

Sink Sank Sunk
ctomvelu-18 February 2009
I am not crazy about ongoing story arcs involving fancily-named serial killers. First it was (yawn) Gormagon, now it's the (yawn) Gravedigger. The Gravedigger has kidnapped Bootb and stuck him in an old battleship that is about to be sunk for the fishes to enjoy. Brennan and crew race to discover Booth's whereabouts. The gimmick that makes the episode watchable is the ghost of a long-dead Ranger helps Booth work his way out of his death trap. This lends a little eeriness and suspense to an episode that otherwise doesn't have a whole lot going on. Keep an eye out for the final shot, to see who is waving to whom. And keep in mind that Brennan does not believe in ghosts,

Good and Bad

Warning: Spoilers
This is the second episode involving the Gravedigger, and the second episode involving Booth's brother. Evidence has gone missing, and there are only three people left from the original story who could have taken it. The Gravedigger kidnaps Booth until said evidence is returned.

Things I liked:

Brennan gets to save Booth There's a hung involved int he reunion The storyline is okay, yet creepy

Things I don't like: The ghost. It's so not Booth, and worse - in a later episode, Brennan easily explains it, BUT since she also so the ghost, there's a flaw in her logic.

Jack's stealing evidence: He got in no trouble for this.

Jarod's punishment: Yet, Jarrod was severely punished.

I hate it when shows do this...
trevor-mcinsley14 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This show has always had a grounding in logic and reality. I can deal with some of the futuristic technology and the odd bit of dodgy science as that exists to speed the plot along. However ghosts? Just why? It started on the notion that it could have been a hallucination caused by Booth's injury and drugging but soon gave up on that ambiguity entirely and just basically said 'yeah this guy is definitely a ghost'. Having the ghost help him escape could have been explained as a combination of hallucinations and head injury and would have made for a good story element. However when Brennan talks to him at the end it just ruins it completely.

Once you cross that line in what was previously a scientifically grounded programme I can no longer invest in it at all. Essentially any character could now be a ghost so when it is unclear who the murderer is... it could be a ghost too.

Moreover for Booth, who is insanely Catholic, to so willingly accept the supernatural just seems totally out of character. This is a man who genuinely believes in heaven and hell... you would think that finding out his friend was wandering around the Earth as a disembodied spirit might throw his deeply held beliefs into a state of dismay. Instead he just blindly accepts it.

I'm still working my way through season four but now that the show has suddenly taken the radical stance that ghosts are real there doesn't seem to be much point watching it anymore.

I hate immortal supervillian plot arcs
xhidden9929 March 2015
It's just weak storytelling. Infinite mega mega super genius who has limitless powers, total omniscience about everything and everyone and unchecked power over space and time. It's tedious but also it's silly. Mega uber criminal who doesn't actually want a ransom or anything except to have a long conversation with their nemesis. Like Sherlock Holmes' Moriarity. I mean what next? Gravedigger floods the Grand Canyon? And there is officially ghosts in Bones now? Ghosts? What about time travel? Hey I know. Bones dead mother will show up next. It's just lazy TV. And I am tired of it. Science is one thing supernatural magic is another.

absolute disappointment
rosimili7 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
There was a great potential in the plot of the story to move forward on show's loose ends without spoiling of excitement. But instead we got a very lame story. Even our super smart Dr. Brennan is acting silly over a GPS. The excitement over life of our hero lost in lack of logical reasoning. So much so that even cast couldn't show any concern. Now we know what will happen when you suck anthropology, forensic, and logical reasoning knowledge out of crime investigation show. Absolute blah. Nothing made sense. It doesn't even have enough sex potential in it to sell as a romantic show. I can't see how they can continue without Hart Hanson's vision and Kathy Reichs's knowledge.
