Top Gear Australia: scrapped?
BBC Worldwide’s Top Gear format is returning to Channel Nine – but the future of the Australian spin-off show is up in the air.
Top Gear Australia failed to win a big audience when it returned to Nine for its second season a year ago, pulling in less than half of the ratings of its debut audience in 2010.
Nine told Mumbrella that the network would run the remaining episodes of last year’s series, which ended early due to poor ratings, to see how the show fared this year. The network added that it had “not yet made a decision” on whether to run another series of Top Gear Australia.
However, a BBC Worldwide spokesperson told Mumbrella that there were “no plans” to bring the Freehand-produced show back.

Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney. The debt-ridden private equity owners of the Nine Entertainment Co. are poised to sell the Acp Magazines division after meeting with potential buyers including Germany’s Bauer Media Group, the Sydney Daily Telegraph reports. That suggests the rumored $A3 billion ($3.1 billion) offer for Nine Entertainment from former Hollywood MGM mogul Harry Sloan and U.S. private equity group Tpg hasn’t developed. A source close to Nine Entertainment tells Deadline that Sloan-tpg were “tirekickers” who were never going to make a serious bid. Acp publishes 52 titles in Australia which sell nearly 100 million copies each year. They include The Australian Women’s Weekly, Woman’s Day, Dolly, Nw, TV Week, Cleo, Cosmopolitan, Australian Gourmet Traveller, madison, Australian House & Garden and Top Gear Australia. Nine’s owner Cvc Asia Pacific bought the media company, which includes the free-to-air Eastern States Nine Network, the...

The box jellyfish is one of the world.s deadliest creatures. With tentacles up to three metres long and venom that attacks the skin, the heart and the nervous system, swimmers that are unlucky enough to be stung often never make it back to the shore. Drowned after going into shock, or dead of heart failure.

Sports show Between the Lines was cancelled after one month and Top Gear Australia is believed to have been axed this week. Aussie television bosses have insisted that Top Gear UK and Top Gear Australia are not being cancelled. The UK version of the motoring show, starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, was rumoured to be facing the axe after allegedly being "shunted" from its prime-time slots, but the Nine Network has insisted that the reports are not true. A spokesperson for the TV channel told The Age: "All episodes from Season 16 of Top Gear have aired. Top Gear will return to a prime-time slot some time after Easter." The UK programme was moved to Nine from Sbs in 2009. Shortly afterwards, the station launched Top Gear Australia, starring (more)...

Shane Jacobson has revealed that it is difficult to find a "balance" with Top Gear Australia. The actor and television star, who is the presenter of the Aussie version of the motor show, said that they are always up against criticism because they are in the shadow of the UK version of the series. Jacobson told The Age: "If we turn up in a Holden ute and do a story where we drive across the Nullabor in a ute and see how far we get on three tanks of fuel, then Australia goes, 'Yeah, you've put yourself in a ute, you've driven across Australia and that's so Australian.' Once upon a time, directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly had the three good actors to play the “The Three Stooges” with Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Jim Carry under the MGM banner. Now latter two of the three actors officially dropped out of the project and MGM has handed the project over to 20th Century Fox. According to TheWrap’s unnamed source, Fox has Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg and Australian comic Shane Jacobson on the short list. Last month, it was reported that Peter Ferrelly wanted to recast with “a major movie star or an unknown.” TheWrap also wrote, “Not only would Knoxville, Samberg and Jacobson appeal to younger audiences – there’s an entire generation (or two) that’s mostly unfamiliar with the Stooges, but they’re also more in line with the spirit of the original slapstick trio.” The film’s plan is to divide the PG-rated into...

The rumor has been around for years. The idea has been in minds for almost a decade. And in two months it’s supposed to start filming. The Farrelly Brothers Three Stooges movie is a hope or a dread, depending on how important Moe, Larry, and Curly have been in your life and childhood. Some people can’t wait to see the flick while others hate the idea of it. But since 20th century Fox took it over from MGM and we now finally have an official shooting date of the flick, March 14th, 2011. It’s finally fully becoming a reality. Some aspects of the film that we still aren’t too sure of is the casting. Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro, were set to play Curly, Larry, and Moe, but Carrey and Penn walked out and Del Toro’s status is still unknown. But today, the...

Last month [1], the feature film version of The Three Stooges moved from the struggling MGM to 20th Century Fox, along with writer/directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Once attached stars Jim Carrey [2], Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro were long gone but with the change of studio, the movie once again had a pulse. That pulse is now quickening according to The Wrap who reports that "advances have been made, representatives have been approached and discussions have taken place" for Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg and Australian comedian Shane Jacobson to play Moe, Larry and Curly. Read more after the jump. The Wrap quotes [3] an agency insider about the possible casting of the blockbuster comedy, which would ideally start production in March. With Jackass and Saturday Night Live respectively, Knoxville and Samberg each have plenty of experience in both the physical and comedy realms that would be necessary to play a good Stooge.

Shane Jacobson may refer to himself as "the man who ate Billy Crystal," but the Kenny star and Top Gear Australia host brought much of his musical theatre experience to the role of AFI host for this year. Probably still best known for that lovable Aussie Kenny in the highly successful 2006 film, Jacobsen welcomed the opportunity to sing for the broadcast with opening number, George and Ira Gershwin's They Can't Take That Away From Me. "They went, ‘Do you want to get up and do a song.' And we said, ‘yes.' So we kind of came up with an idea to They Can't Take That Away From Me and sort of blending it in with the nominees.
