Sex & Nudity

  • Some of the Necromorph enemies (human corpses resurrected by an alien parasite) are naked, however they are so heavily mutated that genitalia have disappeared, likely owing to the fact that these creatures "reproduce" by infecting others and thus have no need for sexual organs.

Violence & Gore

  • If you fail to protect yourself then the Necromorphs brutally murder you usually by beheading you.
  • The enemies you fight are called "Necromorphs", and they must be dismembered in order to kill them. When a limb is dismembered, lots of blood spurts out and splashes onto the floor or walls. Dead enemies can also be completely dismembered via a brutally violent stomping move.
  • Extreme gore throughout.
  • While the IOS version still has a hefty amount of blood and dead bodies, it's no where near the gore of the console version.

Profanity

  • The language in this game is relatively tame for an M-rated game.
  • 10 uses of "fuck." Words like "hell," "shit," "damn," "oh my god," and "bitch" are also used, but you hear them very infrequently. There is only one use of "god dammit."
  • There are three uses of Fuck in the IOS version, and other language such as Bitch, Hell, Damn, Goddamnit and Shit are said infrequently in the IOS version.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A woman is revealed to have killed herself via lethal injection.
  • None in the IOS version.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This game is known as one of the scariest video games of all time, focusing on a dark, dreary and extremely tense atmosphere, various jumpscares, chilling sound design, frightening enemies, lots of extremely gory violence and MANY disturbing sequences.
  • This game contains countless "jump" scenes and scenes of violence and brutality.
  • The final cutscene contains a jump scare.
  • The IOS version has a few jump scares, but due to the fact that you never see anyone, there are no disturbing sequences at all, It's a LOT less scary than the console version, but it might seem scary to some younger players.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • An audio log suggests that a live and unwilling prisoner had a sample of a harmful and rapidly spreading necrotic tissue inserted into his head by drilling. The victim can be heard panicking in the background, and finally screaming before the end of the recording.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The game's semi-inanimate antagonist "The Red Marker" is an human replica of an alien artifact that causes severe insanity and drives people to suicide and murder. This can be seen happening multiple times in-game.
  • During separate missions in the game, your progress is watched by an insane doctor who believes the Necromorphs (the enemies) to be the next step in human evolution. He has killed many innocent people, and also tries to have you killed on many occasions. The same doctor has also created a very tough Necromorph which will also attempt to hunt you down.
