Sex & Nudity

  • One apartment shown is covered in pictures of naked women. In every scene that takes place within that apartment, there are pictures of naked women clearly seen.
  • The main characters gives his landlord a blowjob, while the landlord looks at a picture of a naked woman.
  • A female character allows a store clerk to grope her breast in exchange for a pack of cigarettes.
  • Two female characters arrange a show for a male character by allowing him to watch them dance from his apartment with binoculars. They dance in revealing clothing for one minute, stripping down to their underwear before revealing the word 'PERV' written across their buttocks. They then shut the blinds.
  • A man comes out of an airplane lavatory buttoning up his trousers, and we see that the air hostess was in the cubicle with him. She waits until he is in his seat until she comes out. She brings him his drink, and they exchange a look. Nothing is directly shown or stated, but obviously a sexual favour was given.
  • A mother character playfully tells her adult son, "You came out of my hoo-haa!" He is disgusted by this.
  • A character strokes a bald man's head, and says to his friend, "Hey, man, that's nice. Hey, that's like your sister's ass, man." His friend gets angry, as his sister is only thirteen. The bald man laughs at this, to which both friends are disgusted.
  • Some discussion of strippers and sex.
  • The main character is almost always shown in just his tighty-whitie underpants..
  • One female character is trying to become a stripper in Las Vegas, yet insists on calling it 'dancing.' Her male friend later intervenes rather harshly, telling her how miserable her life will become and that "unless you call it what it really is, a strip club, AKA titty bar, maybe you're not ready to grind your bare ass against some old pervert yet." The wake-up call leaves her quite upset.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is beaten to the ground and kicked by two thugs. He is later shown heavily bruised.
  • A character imagines ways in which to hide a body, and we see a very brief imaginary sequence of him sawing through the leg of a corpse before vomiting over it. This lasts less than ten seconds but is nonetheless gory.
  • A character slams a body's fingers in a car door, as well as bashing its head repeatedly while dragging it down a flight of stairs, and dropping it from a balcony among other things. All of this is accidental, and played for laughs.
  • A man accidentally kills his landlord. The beginning of the film is about him trying to hide the body. In an attempt to make it look like a suicide, he stabs the body with a screw driver, shoots him in the head with a shotgun, then accidentally sets the body on fire. The corpse is shown later and is kind of gory.
  • A developed character commits suicide by taking every pill in his apartment. The death is offscreen, but we see some characters find his body, still sitting in his armchair. Nothing graphic is shown.

Profanity

  • Lots of profanity. 65 uses of 'fuck,' 25 uses of 'shit.'
  • Some religious swearing.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • In one scene, a man thinks his mother is drunk, and constantly reminds her of her alcoholism, despite her being a sober born-again Christian for quite some time. She says that she blames herself for her son now being an addict too.
  • A few different characters are seen smoking.
  • One character is a stoner, and is shown smoking weed several times. In one scene he makes a gravity bong and smokes it after it's done.
  • One character is an alcoholic, and drinks in nearly every single scene he's in.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Two positive characters are shown (at different times) in a morgue, crying at the sides of deceased family members. Only the faces and feet of the corpses are shown and they are in no way disfigured.
  • In one scene, a character intervenes with his friend who wishes to become a stripper. His forecast for her life is brutally real, and perhaps upsetting to some viewers. The film usually takes everything in an offbeat and comedic light, but this scene is very real and jarring.
  • A photograph which a positive character claims to like very much indeed is ripped up in front of him. This moment, though brief, is a bit upsetting.
  • The whole movie has a disturbing and offbeat feel to it. The main character is bizarre in both appearance and character. Many of the other characters are also very strange, and react to scenarios atypically. Some scenes feature unexplained hallucinations.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A landlord forces the main character to give him blow jobs to pay for the rent.

Violence & Gore

  • A negative character slips and bashes his head off of the hard floor. He sneezes, spraying blood all over another character's face. The second character is about to murder him by crushing his skull with a bowling ball, but the first character sneezes once more, bashing his head against the floor again and dying instantly.
  • A character is shot in the stomach. Quite a lot of blood is shown on his clothes, hands, and the floor. He dies offscreen, but is shown crying for around a minute.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A scene in which the main character is beaten by two thugs is upsetting, as he is shown to be a very innocent and child-like character. He is seen heavily bruised in a later scene.
  • A character is shot by some store robbers. This is directly after an upsetting argument between the character and a friend. She comforts him as he bleeds out. They are both crying. He says he is regrets the argument and retracts his hurtful statements. He says "I want my momma." This scene is upsetting, particularly since it comes directly after two other intense and upsetting instances. The film usually takes everything in an offbeat and comedic light, but this scene is very real and jarring.
