• Old King : [at the elephant's new home]  Can't even find something decent to eat around here, and the Hunter is closing in once again!

  [elephants trumpet in agreement] 

  Old King : We'll run no further. Tomorrow, at dawn, we will drive him from the jungle. I call for an elephant stampede!

  [elephants trumpet loudly] 

  Cornelius : Shhh! Quietly!

  [the Old King finds some mushrooms and eats one] 

  Young Babar : Your Highness, this is madness!

  [the Old King eats another mushroom] 

  Young Babar : The Hunter has a gun! Traps! We must out think him!

  Pompadour : It's all very well for you to say, Babar. But you've forgotten what it's like to live in the jungle.

  Cornelius : You have been away in the city on the.. other side for a long time, Babar.

  Pompadour : The elephant stampede is an honorable battle tradition that goes back to the days of the Mighty Mammoths. Isn't that so, your Majesty?

  [the Old King doesn't answer] 

  Pompadour : Your Majesty?

  [the Old King falls over on his side and dies] 

  Cornelius : [runs over to the dead Old King]  My tusks! Your Majesty!

  Young Babar : [runs up to Cornelius]  Cornelius, what happened?

  [a mushroom falls out of the Old King's trunk] 

  Cornelius : It's the mushrooms. They're poison.

  [everyone gasps] 

  Pompadour : Horrors! What can we do now?

  [Cornelius walks on top of rock] 

  Cornelius : Our illustrious king has sadly departed from us. Although he is gone, his wisdom and courage will live on in our hearts forever. We will proceed with the Old King's final wishes... Tomorrow, we stampede!

  [elephants trumpet] 

  Cornelius : [to Babar]  We have little choice, Babar.

  Young Babar : It's madness! We won't stand a chance.
