Countess Rostova : Strange, isn't it? As one gets older, one wants to see fewer and fewer people. Just old friends.

Princess Drubetskoya : My dear, there are not many of us left. That's why I value your friendship so.

Countess Rostova : You're right in that. Fewer and fewer old friends. They seem to drop by the wayside as one journeys through life.
Countess Rostova : Life treats all of us very differently.

Princess Drubetskoya : How true that is. For some people life seems so easy. For others it's just struggle, struggle, struggle all day.

Countess Rostova : Well, my life hasn't been easy, as you know. No bed of roses. Wealth has its problems, my dear. In some ways no less than poverty. Can be a worry and a strain.

Princess Drubetskoya : Oh, don't I know. If you haven't got it, you wonder where it's coming from, but if you have, you wonder where it's going.
Princess Drubetskoya : And what do the doctors say?

Prince Vasili Kuragin : They're with him now.

Princess Drubetskoya : I want to thank him personally for all his kindness in the past to me and to Boris. Boris is his godson, you know. I shall wait awhile. Perhaps he'll rally.

Prince Vasili Kuragin : Don't you think such an interview would be something of an ordeal?
