Broken as Hell, But Lots of Fun
baydenpickersgill11 August 2020
This game has so many bugs and glitches as well as server issues but I just can't get enough of it, personally. Sure some of the levels aren't as good as others, but there are no levels that I'd actually say are boring (apart from the 'Match the Icons!' level). Anyway, this game is really fun overall, even with the issues in mind.

It's brilliant! I played it to test it for my kid and take a break from FNT and was hooked. It's totally insane

Fallen Kingdom
southdavid17 September 2020
As it hit the gaming zeitgeist at about the same time it was released on PS Plus, I thought I'd give "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" a try. I found a game that's fun, but that reveals all it has to offer far too quickly. (For the record, I appreciate that, over time, the intention will be to increase the variety of the levels, but I'm reviewing the game as it is, following the midseason one update, in September of 2020.)

Like a combination of "Takeshi's Castle" and "The Wall", "Fall Guys" sees you control a small minion-esque character as you participate in a virtual game show in an attempt to be the last person standing. Each episode is split into five games, these games can take the form of races, matching games, team sports and balancing challenges. Controls are minimal, with only movement, jumping and a basic grab function available to the player.

"Fall Guys" great strength is its immediate playability, controls are simple, goals are obvious and it's a (mostly) level playing field. Progression in the game gives you in game currency, but this can only be exchanged for cosmetic items (that can also be purchased via microtransactions) there is no paying to win. Success can feel a little random, as the physics of how your character interacts with the level, and most importantly with the other characters, can determine how you proceed. That can be a source of immense frustration, when it's not your "fault" if you fail to qualify, but the ability to quickly get playing again in a new episode does ease a lot of that.

The trouble is, after about an hour or so's play, I felt like I'd seen everything that the game had to offer. There are only twenty five levels, some of which are only available as the fifth and final game of an episode and with this repetition of the levels comes the realisation that most of them have at the very least an optimal route of completion - which increases the repetition even further. If there were hundreds of levels, or even just hundreds of variations to the levels - then this would be a classic party game and maybe it will get there one day, but for now, it's an entertaining couple of sessions only.

I can't deny it's the most fun I've had with a battle royale
TheCorniestLemur5 October 2020
However, I don't really like battle royales very much, but I will admit this one sticks out to me. The concept is certainly entertaining - a game show where a bunch of jelly beans flop around making "wooooooo" noises is, if nothing else, pretty funny for a while, but I think the simplistic nature of this game is what ultimately sells it to me over other battle royales. You move, jump, dive, and grab, and that's it. This does make it very accessible, granted, but it also means the skill ceiling is about as high as your ceiling if you just so happen to live in a bin.

Which is what ultimately condemns this game the most for me, there's barely anything new it can offer after the first few hours of gameplay, and while I'm still playing and enjoying it now, I can only wonder how long that'll continue for. If the game had more modes than it does, then I could see it being much more of a complete package, but right now it does feel just a bit half there.

The gameplay that is there is good though, don't get me wrong. In most modes it strikes a good balance between skill and nonsensical luck-based chaos, but there are definitely some that are almost exclusively luck-based that get on my nerves. For one, Tip Toe. You walk towards the finish line hoping that the next tile isn't fake and sends you back to the start. That's it. For another, Door Dash. You run into doors hoping that they won't be unbreakable. That's it. And a special mention goes to Perfect Match. Not luck-based at all but by god is it boring. And just in general any team game. Isn't the whole appeal of a battle royale the chase after that slim chance of being proclaimed better than the tens of other players in the match? So why does it randomly throw team games into the lineup?

I do really like the game's artstyle and music, but if the context is that this is a game show, a host offering witty commentary or an audience routinely cheering or booing wouldn't have gone amiss. Not a glaring issue, just something that crossed my mind a few times.

Ultimately, I think this will only get better as time goes on, but it's certainly fun enough to be worth a look at the very least right now.

Oh, and it has microtransactions. Boooooooooooo.

A must play!
Kamil_An21 August 2020
A very fun and addictive game, it has many levels that are beyond amazing! A very nice rotation when it comes to map picking and in general, it has a very nice twist when it comes to customization (outfits etc.) , obstacles and challenges. This game will for sure kill a lot of your time. Highly recommend it.

The only issue I have is the continuous falling animation and a few bugs. Other than that, it's perfect!

P.s. I never thought I'd enjoy a game like this before!

This Game is Underrated
yolibarvueswag24 August 2020
I just don't understand. On Metacritic it has a 80% score, which is way too low. Here, it's 7.5, which imo is also too low.

Fall Guys sucks!
electromax9 September 2020
Absolutely horrible game, the mechanics and gameplay is ridiculous, and it causes a lot of rage, the worst game of the 2000's by far

Really a stand out battle royale game
pace-941271 October 2020
This game is basically a battle royale game without the killing aspect, the game is so much fun to play with friends and we laugh together because the way the character moves is really clumsy and that's funny. The game mode is good but the perfect match and slime climb is what i dislike the most because there's too many trolling players, but for the most part this game is really good.

Enjoyable too anyone
POKFD18 August 2022
The game is fun for any age, its wipeout if it met a battle royale where you fight to be the last one standing and get the crown. The designs of the characters are simple yet bright and colourful and nice, the collaborations in the game are enjoyable as you race around as sonic in green hills or destroy every bean as the doom slayer.

Fall Guys renamed Crashes All the Time
trainspotting21 July 2022
Played this game for around 10 hours and it was lots of fun. One day it was working the next day Blue Screen of Death when starting it up. Tried to fix error, didn't work. Uninstalled, reinstalled in new directory, didn't work. All I get now is BSOD. For how long this game has been out I can't believe that major bugs like this still exist. I just deleted it and it is free on Epic now and even that is too expensive, don't bother with it.

Fun Time
6Spirals28 June 2022
I think the best way to experience Fall Guys is by playing the game yourself, watching other people on YouTube isn't experiencing the fun, because when you yourself play it you have the most fun.

Repetitive?
AvionPrince1630 October 2021
I think when you discover the game, you want to discover all the games that you need to win against other people and try to find the best way tobe qualified. But after this its quite repetitive wnd boring. Its good for 3 weeks but you will never touch it after this except when they will update or new content. But can be very fun and have a nice design.
