Dancing. The true universal language. There exist different styles, different methods, different dances for different cultures. There are very skilled dancers, and some very unskilled dancers who think they are skilled. George Jetson is sadly the latter, but he's determined to make up for his pair of left feet so he won't embarrass Judy beyond repair at her party. So as our story begins, Judy is permitted to have a party with friends where the main activity will be dancing. George and Jane decide they will dance at the party whether Judy likes it or not, but their moves are incredibly out of date and she pleads for them not to show them off at the party. So, George decrees they will take dancing lessons. So after dealing with a violent parking meter, they go to see the proprietor of a robot dance studio who assigns them a robot dance instructor (I wonder if they know 'the Robot').
Well unfortunately George's crazy-ass dances causes their instructor to blow a fuse. Undaunted, the proprietor decides it would be better not to waste time trying to teach George to dance, but eliminate the middle man and give him a pair of experimental dancing shoes. They do the dancing for you. How much would you pay? Well as they leave the studio, the shoes start up by themselves, causing George to a crazy jump up and kick dance, which draws an amazed crowd. Afterwards, George attempts to remove the shoes, but they won't come off. Oh, do I detect hilarity and hijinks? Well besides having to deal with shoes that won't come off and dance whenever they feel like it, George has to go see Elroy's principal. To make matters worse, Spacely calls up and orders him to the office immediately....a little H&H coming up! So after being belittled by the principal for not signing Elroy's report card and starting him on the road to ruin and eternal damnation, George heads to work. The shoes start up at an inappropriate moment and George is fired for the nine millionth time. But after all this bother, the shoes finally bring George some good luck as they draw the attention of a director who's filming a street dancing and offers George his own show. Wow! Don't worry, though, he won't be leaving The Jetsons. They're his family and plus, he's under contract. Dancin' George Jetson becomes a star over night and the premiere of his new show will commence on Friday at 8:00, right after The Flintstones. This is also the night of Judy's party, so let's hope nothing goes wrong. Already Judy is dreading her father's dancing. I guess nobody told her the recent news. But as you would have expected, Lady Luck takes a hike as George's shoes burn out and he has to resort to his old, embarrassingly hilarious dance moves...which surprisingly the kids find hip and start to mimic them. So it all works out. Those crazy dance moves becomes the latest craze: the George Jetson. Judy can continue to show her face in public, Elroy was elected student body president, and George finally gets his shoes off.
Pretty good episode. Doesn't really stand out, but it's good for what it is. This episode shows just how crazy dancing in the future will become. We also learn that despite Rosie's long list of stored knowledgeable data, she hasn't the faintest idea what a shoehorn is. Plus, when Astro is thirsty, why doesn't he say so? He can talk, can't he? Don Messick was available because he voiced the sassy repairman. What was up with Elroy's report card deal? Was he failing? I thought Elroy was a boy genius. Oh well. So 'Dance Time' is a good time to be had by all.
