I was hooked in the first 7 mins

The acting, the cinematography, the style, the script. Its all perfect and captivating. Alex is such a likable and sympathetic protagonist. I have never gone through anything like Alex has, and yet I was able to relate to her emotions and actions immediately.

A thoroughly captivating pilot and I am excited to watch more.

This is so good. I'm only two episodes in but it's fantastic. Those of us living on the edges don't get our stories told nearly enough, AND with appropriate humor mixed in. That's our lives. Despair and joy and humor mixed in.

So incredibly GOOD

I don't know what the guy watched that only gave this episode one star. The series is off to a great start! Realistic plot, well written dialogue, appropriate musical score, super camera work. The actors all do a great job - Margaret Qualley in particular is outstanding! For me she is already a candidate for the Emmy!

Definitely watch it!

When she leaves
not_a_daisy18 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So many people say they you should see red flags and leave BEFORE he hits you or the child, but this show shows how little support and understanding from your closest surrounding you get if you do leave with the first signs. Show tackles emotional abuse, things like how hard it is to leave when love is still in the picture, but treatment is bit what you deserve... And how having a child puts a woman in a such a vulnerable position in the relationship. Loved it from the first episode, still in the middle wondering how her story continues.

Very unusual

This is the first time I come across a situation where, when watching a show, I get the feeling that I am watching a documentary. A full sense of presence in the plot is created. The most realistic show. Vital and exciting.

The main character can only applaud. She is great! And let other women follow her example!

Just very good

I absolutely adored this series. The premise is strong. The emotions, the acting, the story, music everything is just so beautiful. The 8 hour ride of this series kept me hooked and heart wrenched throughout. The shaky camera movements makes you delve right into the messy world of the main character. The story doesnt get boring overtime. An absolute stunner.💖

Hits home if you understand the real life struggles
alohajlj9 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is not an over the top, fast paced show with unrealistic (well mostly) outcomes. It's a realistic portrayal of the hardships of how one young person with nothing to her name and little if at all any support struggles to free herself from an abusive relationship for the betterment of her daughter. If you have never been through any of this you may not understand and think it's ridiculous but hope that through watching this you now have empathy for how hard it is and why MANY stay in those relationships because they have nowhere to turn and are too weak to change. Weakness is why many of the characters and people in life fail. Sean is not an evil person, this does a good job at showing how people with addictions change and are good people who mean well but are too weak to not turn to alcohol or drugs, thus turning them into people who do bad things. They are still accountable for their actions, let's not belittle the violence which has long lasting impacts for life. Money and lack thereof is the other main reason. This does a good job at showing how hard it is to get a job and keep one when you have a kid and can't afford daycare to work or even gas. This struggle is REAL! And not just for the poor. It also shows how important it is to have places like the DV shelters available. Another point that comes through that many who don't understand is that she was a victim. This is why she didn't call the police on him when those incidents happened. This is why she looked like she was lying to the courts with no documentation of violence. You think to yourself either it's no big deal, it was my fault, I can handle it, they won't believe me because there is no physical evidence, etc. The hardest thing to prove is verbal abuse. Police don't do anything until it's too late. This is a hard truth. All in all it does a good job conveying the ups and downs of a young woman's struggle to leave a toxic relationship all while healing from her own childhood trauma- one she doesn't want to repeat for her daughter. This can either become the same circle of life or you can breakthrough and change it, rewrite your story. It takes strength, support and perseverance. She's a very good mom if you were watching. Yes she makes bad choices and I was yelling at the TV at times, but then you remember she was weak and young and tired in those moments. The unrealistic part is the luck this character had in meeting a rich woman who got her an amazing lawyer. In real life that probably wouldn't have happened but you'd hope those more fortunate would open their hearts and help those in need. Hope there are good people in the world that don't judge or turn a blind eye, maybe after watching this there will be more.

Imitações Baratas

Warning: Spoilers
Maid (2021)

Series

1st Season

Episode One - Imitações Baratas

I bet I'm going to suffer a lot with this series.

I've already become attached to the character.

I loved the narrative of the series, mixing it with her thoughts, for example, her enjoying herself in the rich woman's refrigerator, but she couldn't even eat the fruit.

I believe it's not like terror, nor psychological terror, but I believe it would go in easily, all the manipulation and psychological aggression she suffers from the guy, and if she continued with him it would even be physical aggression.

I didn't expect them to hit her car, I feared for my daughter.

I hope nothing happens to both of them.

This question is for those who work as domestic workers, do you have to buy cleaning products? I swore that the contractors I provided, you kind of pay to work, right?

Previous Series: Hollywood (2020)

Episode one of the first season of the Miniseries Maid watched on May 22, 2024.

Decent writing, bad casting
pinkblueberrycat19 August 2022
In particular, the lead is not convincing as a struggling single mother who is treated as badly as she is by everyone she meets. It doesn't make sense to cast an ethereally beautiful model as the protagonist on a gritty show about poverty. Of course, beautiful women can be poor, but they navigate poverty differently to women who are less lucky in the looks department. This is why I prefer British TV.

I am revisiting this show because I never got to finish it last time.

Pretty strong pilot.

Qualley is a strong enough actor to be able to carry the show on her own. I think she really understands her role based on how she decided to portray Alex. Alex looks stressed and all over the place (which she literally is) but we see glimpses of her love toward her child, Maddy in between moments. The sequence of events that's happening to her is catastrophic but not far from reality.

Digging the pacing. Pretty fast-paced for a rather dramatic subject. No slow burns.

Finding the pre-inflation prices slightly comedic. I don't think even in dollar stores, the prices are right.

I am guessing they must have consulted domestic violence victims to some extent because the gaslighting from Sean, the fact that she left with only 18 dollars, which could indicate impulsiveness, are all quite realistic. Not many victims have a predetermined plan when they decide to leave. I like the fact that there wasn't physical abuse but any sort of action that creates a dangerous environment is considered abuse. Love the depiction of a rather bs system.

Loving the pilot so far.

Barely made it through the first episode
karen-heffernan23 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was really looking forward to watching this show after seeing Andie McDowell talk about it in a number of interviews, but every character (except for Alex) in this first episode is a terrible, irredeemable cartoonishly bad person. The escalating absurdly bad situations she has to deal with are just ridiculous - its just came off like a white trash video game. Andie McDowell's acting was very good, but it wasn't enough to compel me to watch anymore.

So incredibly bad

Warning: Spoilers
I am not sure what I am watching - the acting is so bad, bordering on ridiculous. It makes no sense and feels like a low budget show that has unlikeable characters and preposterous stories. Could not get through two episodes.
