Heroes of Today
k-ludewig12330 November 2008
The first and only musical film with Falco, the most famous Austrian musician after Mozart. "Helden von heute" (translated: "Heroes of Today") is a film that is worth watching mainly because of its music. A storyline is cognizable at the beginning, but it ends after the song "Ihre Tochter", what is rather a pity. The video for "Hoch wie nie" was shot amid amazing scenery, at an aircraft cemetery near Tucson, Arizona. The songs are in a wide range of genres, from new wave, to electropop, to funk, to schlager... All songs are contained in the album "Junge Roemer", except the title song, which was released on the previous album "Einzelhaft". The album "Junge Roemer" was successful in Austria, but not abroad. Today, the album is considered as underrated, quite a lot of people say, that Falco was ahead of his time back then. One should also mention his producer Robert Ponger. There was a division of work between them: Falco wrote all lyrics, Ponger wrote all music. Later, Falco switched to the Bolland brothers, because of dissension between him and Ponger. The Bollands produced his greatest hit "Rock Me Amadeus".

Highlights:

"Helden von heute" - a hymn to the new wave movement

"Brillantin' Brutal'" - a kinda jazzy song and a tribute to the film "Casablanca" with Humphrey Bogart

"Ihre Tochter" - cool sound effects! Robert Ponger did a very good job here :-)

"Junge Roemer" - a poetic and danceable song in three languages (German, English, Italian), probably dedicated to the new romantic movement

But honestly, almost all songs are highlights.
