So solid (Crew) - but much more
If you are aware of the band, the DVD I have where this documentary is on, has also a concert with them. So you do get a lot of bass/bang for your money. But back to this documentary, that is as into the group, up close and personal as you can get. The interviews are from a long time ago, but they tell us where the group comes from, what many of their members are into and their hardships growing up in their neighbourhoods.
Now some of these things may sound cliche to some, but listening to the people (which depending on your view of things, you may not like), they sound as real as possible. They speak from the heart. Again, it doesn't mean you will like them or what they say. But it means, they know what they talk about and never pretend to be someone else. That's keeping it real! It also is a dark look into society. This may sound weird being a documentary about a music group, but as controversial as they were seen (especially by the goverment, making them out to be some bad individuals, which they don't seem to be at all, just victims of their circumstances), this shines a light on, what certain people get in life. How life is for them - this sort of explains white privilege - if you are open and listen to them talk. It is heart breaking and it is also sad to think that probably in almost two decades, not much have changed (I've not studied the UK, but my gut feeling and what I see and hear in the news would suggest that) ... Just over an hour, this is powerful viewing, not just for fans of the music they produced, but anyone who loves humans and is interested to maybe get a perspective he/she may not have ... and understand that "stuff happens", not just because of our actions, but the enviroment we grew up. One would hope that things will change sooner rather than later, but I won't hold my breath ...
