Cute moments but boring overall
masa-8106113 October 2021
I'm actually a bit disappointed. The show had a streak of good episodes going for it and tonight it vanished.

The DANSEN scenes were cute but too late in the game, the supercorp scenes were great too but when are they going to make them canon? It's becoming quite blatant. Where was Nia?

The "plot" was all over the place, we haven't really seen Kara's development and there's only 5 episodes left. Once again they're trying to make us care for William. Wake up, nobody cares. His scenes are a waste of time, the actor's skill is subpar to the rest of the cast and it shows in all of his scenes. Stop trying to make him a hero.

Overall, disappointing.

Solid Episode With The Best Story Arc In The Show
TheReaper67513 October 2021
This episode was pretty good, but out of the 3 totem storyline based episodes, it was the weakest. It still strived from the enhanced CGI this season, but the action/fight scenes were underwhelming due to Esme's story.

Alex and Kelly adopting Esme was an interesting idea however it took up way too much time in my opinion. It's also unfortunate that Dreamer wasn't here.

Martian Manhunter was also pretty good here and they finally used a scene with his Martian face which is always nice to see.

Nyxly losing all of her totems was... weird... considering she was "defeated" and without her magic she's not much of a threat to Kara.

Overall, this episode was nice but the weakest out of the totem quest so far. Final Verdict: 8.5/10.

Great episode
ldamena13 October 2021
Kara is hope and I love those scenes where she gives people that hope or inspires them like this episode. Kara Zor-El is not just a superhero she's a symbol of hope. Nxyly continues to be one of my favorite villains. After Reign she's definitely the best one. The scenes between: Alex, Kelly and Esme were beautiful. Love seeing the moments they are creating together.

*sigh* Why??

Warning: Spoilers
Just as the series is about to end, we have a major new subplot line starting with Alex and Kelly fostering (and, one assumes, eventually adopting) an orphaned alien child and trying hard to make her feel welcome.

But why introduce this subplot NOW?

OK, i can see the reasons why they did it. Esme is cute and sweet and she can mimic whatever superpower she saw last. But the story are seemed to consist of:

-Esme does a frightening thing with her powers, shocking the adults.

-Esme feels guilty.

-Alex and Kelly tell her it isn't her fault.

And unfortunately, it takes up a huge chunk of the episode which, COULD have been a real winner as Kara shows that she is a paragon of Hope, which could be a major turning point in the defeat of the evil Nyxly.

There could be some use for Esme in the defeat of Nyxly in an upcoming episode, I suppose. But what parent would put a young child through that?

As the series builds toward its eventual finale, I hope that the writers find a way to focus more on the critical action than on the subplots.

Good episode!

The story of Esmé feels a little rushed but in general it was very good and emotional. And the principal story was interesting, with a twist near the end.

I just wish the writers remembered the paragons story that fueled the Arrowverse Crisis and at least have the characters mentioning the possibility of a connection between the Totems and the Paragons (even if they discarded it later- In universe is weird that they do not talking about something so obvious)

WTF
arcturus-524072 November 2023
What is the deal with this season? Remember when Supergirl was actually about Supergirl? She was missing for so long this season and now that she's back, we get served episode after episode that's just total garbage, and the dialog is sooooo horrible. And why introduce a new, boring subplot involving other characters this late in the season/series? And gimme a break, no background checks, no adequate home checks, and then they foster this girl for 6 months and just like that, she theirs now? Adoption doesn't quite work like that. What happened with the main story during those 6 months? This show sucks.

Hope For The Rest Of The Series.......
Honesticedragon6917 October 2021
I Love the Opening Scene of this Episode I thought that the Actress that Played the main kid Esme (Mila Jones) did a Really Good Job starting from this opening scene of this episode. And she continued on doing a great job through out the episode in my opinion. The reason I didn't realize her acting abilities the pervious episode is because I Honestly didn't care about the B Story of that episode. But in this episode starting with that opening scene really Warms my Heart with everything about her, from the Material that Mila got to her Acting Abilities as I have said. Moving on to the main story, I love it how for Once the Effects of the Totem did not make everyone around it when it was activated or whatever Violent or Savage. And speaking of the Totems with this being the Hope Totem I find it kind of fitting that it ended up with the Superfiends, mainly because if you watch the CW's Version of Crisis On Infinite Earths Mega Crossover, you would already know that Kara Supergirl is the Paragon of Hope. Then there is the End Oh wow I think this is the First Time that I have been Left Drooling and wanting more this season after this season's opener episode. That's How you do an Episode in my episodes. Anyways the reason why is it just simply teases something big coming up maybe in the next episode. Which leaves me for more again that's how you do an episode, and as such I think this might be my Favorite episode of the season so far Finally. And one of the Best Part is that I didn't find Andrea Rojas Annoying or Unlikable at all. And other things I enjoyed best about this episode is that they are able to Blend the A Story with the B Story so well to the point where they are able to Balance them out perfectly, by sort of using the B Story as a Break from the A Story. So much so to me it almost seems seamless. Then the next part is it was Nice to See our Heros dealing with something other than the usual Big Threat or Villain of the Episode or whatever, so that was Nice Change. And the last and final thing is I love it how No One was able to Obtain the Totem right away not even Nxylgsptinz so that was Refreshing. And speaking of the End I also love the Heros Discussion on an Alternative, realizing their current approach of obtaining the rest of the Totems feels too slow to them.

The biggest Problem I have with this episode was Alix seeming torturing Esme by forcing her to solve this one Puzzle and aggressively encouraging her to control or use her powers I don't know? And how is it that Esme was the only one to be able to figure out that Kara is Supergirl so quickly while the others have no idea who Supergirl was unless Kara decided to reveal the fact that she is Supergirl to the character, I don't know I guess it's the same Superman Problem? And finally, I guess this last one is a bit of Nip Pick, I just feel it was a little too easy I felt Nxylgsptinz didn't put up much of fight or at all in this episode. Now I know by that time they were pressed for time but still I hoping she would put more of a fight before being forced to Retreat like Usual.

For Final Thoughts I guess the title for the episode 'Hope For Tomorrow' kind of fits not only for the episode itself (Dah) but also on how I felt after watching this particular episode.
