Regarded as one of the most significant finds in nearly fifty years, the perfectly preserved tomb is occupied by Wahtye, a high-ranking priest who lived during the Fifth Dynasty of Egypt, and his family. During the dig the team finds several artifacts including personal possessions, statues, and mummy of the high-priest and his family as well as a mummified lion cub. .
Bubasteion Necropolis in Saqqara. In Nov 2018 a small team of Egyptian archaeologists (Mohammad (site director), Hamada Mansoor, Ahmed Zikrey, Sabry (GM Of the site), Mustafa (Master Foreman and in charge of the workers crew)) discover a completely new tomb. 4000 yrs old and hidden. Untouched and not looted. It is a private tomb. Wahtye is the owner of the tomb. Saqqara is the home to the step Pyramid, the oldest stone pyramid in the world. The necropolis is 1 km away from the step pyramid. The site is exposed to the sun and is hot and sandy. The tomb has 4 shafts in it, filled with sand. The team wants to decode the writings inside the tomb, before digging the shafts. In 6 weeks their funding will run out, and to continue their work, they need another major discovery at the site. The team finds some statues and know that they are close to discovering some sort of a temple for goddess Bastet/Sekhmet. They find mummified remains of cats, which is the animal reincarnation of Bastet/Sekhmet.
Nermeen and Nabil work inside the tomb of Wahtye to decode his origins and history. Wahtye is a priest to the King. He is the overseer of the Divine Estate & Sacred Boat. He is a bit of an egotists. He mentions his own name a lot in his tomb and made 55 statues of himself. He wants to portray that he is an important man. A nice tomb was a way to enjoy the material wealth in the afterlife. He lived around 2415 - 2405 BC. The tomb chapel is above ground and the 4 shafts lead to the burial chamber below ground. Nabil wonders why Wahtye has mentioned himself so many times. The tomb chapel also has many scenes depicting ancient Egyptian life. The people live the same life even today.
In the afterlife, the God Osiris, God of death & resurrection, tested you before granting entry. 42 judges would ascertain if a person had committed certain sins. No lies, No Stealing, No killing, and so on. Then the persons heart was weighed against the feather of truth and justice. If the heart was heavier, the person would be eaten by a crocodile headed demon. If they were in balance, the person gained entry into the afterlife. 10 ms west of the Wahtye tomb is the deepest shaft discovered at the site. In the shaft they find mummified remains of several small animals (like a cat). They also find the remains of a larger animal, like a lion cub (Confirmed by X ray tests conducted later to be from 600 BC). They find a crocodile mummy. In ancient times, animals were also worshiped as re-incarnations of God. And people would offer the Gods mummified remains of their pets as an offering to please the Gods. The priests would put these mummies into a mass grave. Further proof that there is a temple nearby.
Inside the tomb, Nermeen and Nabil figure that Ptah was Wahtye's wife. But another inscription indicates that Wahtye also noted Merit-Min as his wife. But Merit-Min was his mother. But the name on the inscription is not Wahtye. Some one tampered with the inscription to show that Wahtye married his mother, which is impossible. The conclude that Wahtye stole the tomb from his brother. The tomb belonged to his brother, and Wahtye removed his brother's name from everywhere and inscribed his own name all over the tomb. But the main inscription with the mother, was left untouched. But Wahtye stole and would be judged by the 42 judges. So, Wahtye notes himself as one of the judges in the afterlife, so he can absolve himself of the sin.
The team starts digging the shafts in the Wahtye tomb. They also find a wooden coffin in another part of the dig (800-600 BC). They find a mummy inside, but it appears burnt. The mummies were preserved using Natron, a combination of baking soda and salt. The burn marks could be a chemical reaction due to the Natron. Isis and Osiris were siblings. Osiris was ruling the world when he brother Seth murdered him. Isis was a magician. She collected the pieces of Osiris's dead body, and bound them with linen in the first act of mummification. she brought Osiris back to life and had their son Horus. Horus killed Seth to become God of life. While Osiris ruled the underworld.
Inside the Wahtye tomb, one shaft ends at 60 Cms. The other keeps going deep. They find a wooden coffin, which appears to be for a small kid. But it seems there are more than one kids buried there. The bones specialist figures there are 2 teenage kids & one kid less than 6 yrs old buried there. The third shaft is dug. There is no burial chamber, but only bones of 3 people scattered in one corner. One of the skeletons belongs to Wahtye's mother, one of his wife and one of his 4th kid. Something happened to the Wahtye family, as it seems that they died rather suddenly and close to each other in time. Outside the Wahtye tomb, the team keeps finding other mummies and their artifacts like an ancient chess game (complete with pieces, from 600 BC). They find a hole in the cliff, filled with mummies and a decorated coffin (1295 - 1186 BC). It is a burial chamber. They also find some statues and reliefs from the Ramses period (3300 yrs old).
Work starts on the 4th shaft inside the Wahtye tomb. It goes down to 4 meters. They find a burial chamber with Wahtye's coffin inside. The coffin is simple and Wahtye isn't that well mummified either. He was shocked by the death of his family. There was no luxury or indulgence. He was 35 when he died. He didn't have healthy bones, due to anemia. The whole family probably died of malaria. On the last day of the dig, the team finds the tomb of a judge.
