Happy Halloween! Chris Feil's look at music in the movies takes on the genre-bending musical classic...
The Rocky Horror Show is a peculiar kind of musical. Quickly dismissed on the stage, it will always be more at home in the cinema, adding Picture to the title and thus embodying its B-movie inspirations. With its notorious run from flop to cult sensation to now subdued midnight ritual, this musical belongs to the masses in a way unlike any other. But weirdly the music itself feels tangential to the cultdom - isn’t it strange that one of the most famous musicals is seldom celebrated for the music itself?
Or maybe if any of the songs themselves are cherished, it’s the worst number in the lineup. Come now, you know that “The Time Warp” is Rocky Horror’s worst song. I know it, you know it, we all know it (The banister knows it!

Three of the announced series in development are anthology-oriented, while nearly all feature some level of genre element. This includes the B-movie homage “Shock Theatre” as well as “Wicked West,” Blumhouse’s non-fiction take on “the most frightening and disturbing tales from the Wild West.”
There are also two high-concept premises mentioned: “Liking What You See” depicts a world where people voluntarily choose to surrender their ability to appreciate beauty, while “The Age of Miracles” is a drama about what happens to one woman’s family after the world learns that the earth’s rotation is slowing down.

It isn’t just nostalgia. Aside from that time Dean Goodall’s mum ironed his shell suit then made him wear it to the year seven summer disco, the early nineties weren’t even that much fun. Doing the Time Warp again is trickier than it looks, as this Fox Halloween tribute to the original Rocky Horror shows...
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a formula that continues to work astonishingly well, all things considered. It’s a borderline nonsensical celebration of the camp and the queer that still delights audiences four decades on. It’s also a formula that a lot of filmmakers and stage directors are fearful to change. Not least because the musical and film has such a devout and protective purist fan-base.

Last night, Fox TV gave us a remake/update of the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show, a staple of midnight movie screenings for decades. This update, with the tag "Let’s Do The Time Warp Again," aired at the family hour of 8pm, which pretty much sums up everything that’s wrong with it.
The original 1975 film is the definition of “lightning in a bottle.” There had been nothing quite like it at the time. It was genuinely transgressive, and featured one of the all-time out-there performances by Tim Curry as Frank-n-Furter, everyone’s favorite "sweet transvestite". While it’s easy to romanticize the original and ignore its weaknesses, the film does deliver as a warm-heated parody of sci-fi and horror movies as intended. Fox’s new made-for-tv musical remake of the cult favorite The Rocky Horror Picture Show aired last night and brought us on a second trip to the madcap castle of Dr. Frank N. Furter. The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again tries to recapture the wacky magic of the original source material but doesn’t quite succeed. Despite some good moments, this reboot only makes you want to watch the 1975 film again.
When people say “There are some movies that shouldn’t be remade”, they could be talking about The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Well, we did it. We took a jump to the left. We took a step to the right. We put our hands on our hips, and pulled our knees in tight. We even did a pelvic thrust, and it drove us insane. But would we do that Time Warp again? That's the real question here, after Fox finally delivered its version of the iconic cult hit from 1975. We can't really say we'll be rewatching tonight's venture into one of the world's greatest and weirdest movies, but we didn't dislike our time in the movie theater/castle/weird science lab. It made some interesting choices, and occasionally missed the point of the original movie by casting and looking like the High School Musical version of Rocky Horror, but...

Tony-winning costume designer William Ivey Long has had a very prolific year in television. The man behind some of Broadway's most iconic looks took on two high-profile TV projects this year: Fox's highly regarded Grease: Live, and now the network's remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Both are based on films that are firmly implanted in the public consciousness—and in the case of Rocky Horror, recreated on a weekly basis all around the world at midnight showings. So one of the first things Long wanted to do with Rhps: Let's Do the Time Warp Again was pay tribute to the work of Sue Blane. "She is the great living British designer who designed Rocky Horror Picture Show," Long tells E!...

It was bound to happen eventually. With reboots and remakes popping up on television and in film more often than ever before, fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show had plenty of warning that the 1975 cult classic would eventually be revisited. In fact, a remake of the film – itself based on the popular perennial stage production – has been in development in some form or another for more than a decade. And so, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again finally heads to Fox this week, much to the chagrin of show creator Richard O’Brien.
The production is just the latest classic musical to be repackaged as a television event, following Fox’s great success with Grease: Live back in January. Ryan McCartan and Victoria Justice star as Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, the engaged couple who stumble onto the castle of the hedonistic Dr.

When Lou Adler, producer of the original Rocky Horror Picture Show, began work on a TV remake of the film, he wasn't quite sure what would fly on a major TV network. Neither were fans of the 1975 original, some of whom wrote him to say they were worried the whole thing would be ruined by censorship. This was one of the most beloved cult movies of all time, one which featured Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick prancing around in their underwear and sleeping with its murderous protagonist Dr. Frank-n-Furter, a...

The recent trend of TV musical events has been squeaky clean so far — The Sound of Music, Grease Live! — but now Fox is getting filthy with a remake of the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It’s lewd, crude, and still shocking forty years later, and Fox’s new version (airing Thursday, 8/7c) is a vibrant adaptation that faithfully captures the spirit of the original. But… there’s also a fatal flaw here that threatens to spoil the whole party.

When Fox's Grease Live! premiered back in January, appreciative critics, myself included, weren't so much impressed with the originality of the production — many or most of its best moments were straight out of the beloved movie — as they were with how much inspiration director Thomas Kail and his creative team were able to wring within the restrictions of a live TV broadcast. That's a grading curve that benefited Grease Live! and one that's slightly unfair to Fox's The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again. But it's hard not to be struck by how comparatively

Laverne Cox only had one reservation when she joined the cast of Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again as Dr. Frank-n-Furter. More specifically, one word.
In the TV movie remake, Cox performs the song “Sweet Transvestite,” and talked to reporters at Variety‘s Power of Women Luncheon about her thoughts on the term “transvestite.”
“That was the only apprehension I really had about doing the film was the term transvestite,” she said. “I’ve been telling people, ‘Please do not go up to a transgender person in 2016 and call them a transvestite, that is an antiquated term.

And in the upcoming episode of Logo’s “Cocktails & Classics,” host Michael Urie will dish exclusive details and never-before-shared stories on the making of the cult classic.
In a new clip, Urie interviews Barry Bostwick (who starred as Brad Majors in the 1976 film) on the film’s legacy. When asked why the film has endured over the years, Bostwick describes its eccentric blend of genres as essential to its impact.
“Every kid who is discovering who they are, what they want to do, what they want to be, whether its what they want to be sexually, what they want to be socially will go,” says Bostwick, “and this will be their rite of passage.”

He played the “Sweet Transvestite” scientist Dr. Frank-n-Furter in the iconic 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And now, over 40 years later, Tim Curry is returning to the musical that made him a star.
Curry, 70, is set to appear in Fox’s upcoming reboot, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again. And on Thursday, he joined the cast — including his role’s new star Laverne Cox — at the Los Angeles premiere, marking a rare red carpet appearance for the actor.
Curry, who has been in a wheelchair since suffering a stroke in 2013, was dressed in an all-black ensemble.

Rocky Horror purists who have been wringing their hands with worry over Fox’s upcoming The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again finally have a full-length track that will either alleviate or add to their concerns: Nickelodeon veteran Victoria Justice’s remake of “Touch A Touch A Touch A Touch Me,” a lusty little number performed in the 1975 film by Susan Sarandon, is now available for streaming.
In a way, “Touch A” is the song that best encapsulates much of the Rocky Horror phenomenon. Both the film and the original stage musical are about taking bland, repressed suburbanites out of their comfort zone and indoctrinating them into the world of sex and decadence, and virginal heroine Janet Weiss gets to address those themes very directly in this number. At first, she talks about her aversion to sins of the flesh: “I thought there’s...
