I would love to see more special DVD features like this one.
This is a special feature on the DVD for "On the Riviera"--a pleasant but unremarkable Danny Kaye film. I say unremarkable because the story has man very familiar story elements AND was already made two others by the studio in only a decade and a half. The story began as "The Red Cat" on Broadway and was brought to film as "Folies Bergère de Paris" with Maurice Chevalier. Then, only a few years later, Don Ameche starred in "That Night in Rio". Finally, in "On the Riviera", Danny Kaye plays the leading man in the third version by Twentieth-Century Foxa. I just adored how this special feature showed the three films side-by-side and explained the process by which they were brought to film as well as the story behind the Broadway production. All this is great behind the scene material and extremely interesting--and like candy to nutty cinemaniacs like me! Well made, fascinating and exactly what a special feature should be. Plus, it's the odd case where a special feature is actually a lot better than the film itself! This and the other special features on the disk make it well worth seeing.
