A Christmas Special/Pilot
studioAT28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Bradley Walsh gamely steps into the hosting role of this much loved game show, following such legends as Terry Wogan, Les Dawson...and David Walliams.

This was good fun, with a mismatch of panel experts just about gelling together for a nice 40 mins of entertainment.

People have said that Jimmy Carr was on a takeover bid, but if you watch him on any celeb version of a game show he's pretty much the same.

I'd be happy if this became a series.

Christmas Special

It was the sign of the times that back in the late 1970s we were all glued watching Terry Wogan's Blankety Blank. It just meant that in the days of 3 channel television there was nothing worth watching on ITV.

The highlight of Wogan's era was Kenny Everett bending his ultra thin microphone.

Something Kenny would not dare do when Les Dawson took over. Les treated the whole thing as it was rubbish, which it was.

Over the years Lily Savage has presented the show and Blankety Blank has even moved channels to ITV.

Now Bradley Walsh revives it for the BBC. Shocking to think that the final choice was between Bradley or Rylan Clark-Neal.

Without being too sniffy. It was undemanding fun on Christmas day. Bradley hit all the right notes, I think some of the celebrities did not realise that you should try to avoid the rude answers. The real shocker was the contestant who did not know the essential ingredient of a limerick.

However in this day and age. Is there any need for a Blankety Blank chequebook and pen?

(Insert Jimmy's weird laugh here)

I wasn't born when the last episode of this show aired, nor have a I watched one since and though I did very much enjoy watching it, I'm not sure it's quite upto scratch with other games shows I've been enjoying thoroughly at the moment such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? And Bradley's other work such as the Chase where he is excellent. A solid 8/10 for this episode, Jimmy Carr dominated the comedy, and that's not a bad thing he is very funny. It did however distract from the contestants themselves, not to worry however as his comedy was far more interesting than the contestants, though some of them made some rather funny gaffs.
