Chuck, Pilot: “Chuck Versus the Intersect”
Written by Josh Schwartz, and Chris Fedak
Directed by McG
Originally aired, September 24th 2007
Pilots are always a tricky business. Some make a spectacle of themselves with an extended runtime or are churned by adverts months in advances; some have the unenviable task of juggling world building, establishing character relations, and stringing out multiple storyline threads for the entirety of the series. Television pilots require a unique blend of instant gratification as well as playing the long game. A pilot has to establish many things, but above all, it must create the foundations for characters that audiences will fall for and become totally invested in. People tune in ritualistically for these characters week in and week out. Viewers form familial bonds and sometimes a sense of entitlement towards television characters which can result in a rabid fan base. A great pilot has to create...

I'm as geeky as the next TV nerd when it comes to actors from one beloved show guest-starring on another one. Thus, my excitement over "Chuck" actor Vik Sahay guest-starring on the upcoming "Bones" episode, "The Twist in the Plot."
Sahay will play Akshay Mirza, the business partner of one of the week's murder victims. Yes, that plural is on purpose: The case of the week begins with the team finding not one but two bodies in a single burial plot.
This is both suspicious and crowded.
The photos from the episode make it look like the Akshay character is devastated by the loss of his partner.
If he's not devastated, what is Sahay doing on the ground? And doesn't it oddly look like he's a child when holding the hand of Brennan (Emily Deschanel) that way?
Throughout the five-season run of "Chuck," Vik Sahay played the character of Lester Patel,...

Tom talks us through ten great moments from five seasons of the dearly departed Chuck...
Spoiler Warning: If you fancy watching Chuck fresh, it might be worth giving this article a miss for now, as it is full of spoilers. Feel free to come back once you have watched it though!
I’m crap at watching TV. Not the act of sitting down, snacks in hand, and enjoying a good programme, that bit's easy. I do find it tricky to sit myself in the chair the same time each week to keep up with a series, though.
The DVD box-set is therefore a big friend of mine. I have discovered many of my favourite shows – The Wire, 24, Mad Men, Misfits – a while after they originally aired. Holding its head high among those is Chuck. I have to confess to my ignorance and admit I knew very...

It’s Valentine’s Day and, for many, that means date night. In this economy, however, a night on the town can be prohibitive. What’s a TV lover to do? Perhaps this is an acceptable alternative? A quiet night in, with a nice, homemade dinner, a few drinks, and a few hours with the perfect show. Here are 10 picks for great date night viewing.
Valentine’s Day Special: Cupid (1998-99)
Chicago bartender Trevor (Jeremy Piven), is convinced he’s Cupid, banished from Mount Olympus and stripped of his powers after pissing off Zeus one too many times. The only way he can get back, as he’s desperate to do, is if he brings together 100 True Love couples. His psychiatrist Claire (Paula Marshall) disagrees, seeing only a broken, if fun, man lost in his delusion. Piven and Marshall have great chemistry, there are interesting guest characters each week, and...

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 13, “Chuck Versus the Goodbye”
Written by Chris Fedak
Directed by Robert Duncan McNeill
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
After five seasons and 90 episodes, Chuck has finally reached its closing act, and the show’s primary relationship is still up in the air. Chuck Bartowski and Sarah Walker have encountered many ups and downs over the years, and their ultimate happiness is well-deserved. It’s too bad that it’s not that simple. Sarah’s still trying to recover her memories, which include the feelings that grew for Chuck. This emotional undercurrent of her search drives the finale, even when their last mission (the third one!) gets rolling. Chuck convinces Sarah to let him tag along with her to find the evil Nicolas Quinn (Angus Macfayden), but her approach is cold and clinical. A happy ending should be inevitable for the couple, but the spy...

The fifth season of NBC’s comedy-adventure TV show Chuck is, very sadly, the final season.
The nerd-herder-turned-spy, played with such boyish charm by Zachary Levi (Tangled), went out on his own in season 5 — no intersect and no CIA backup. Of course, bad guys are still out to get him. But John Casey (Adam Baldwin, Serenity), Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, Killer Elite) and Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez, TV’s Without a Trace) are still on Chuck’s team.
The Chuck: The Complete Fifth Season DVD and Blu-ray include 13 episodes, in which they take on a missing persons case, try to stop an assassin at a Buy More convention, infiltrate a cult and, of course, say goodbye.

"Chuck, tell me our story."
Wasn't the answer Sarah got so much better than an upload from Intersect glasses?
I'll go on record right away as saying that I was very pleased with the "Chuck" finale, and I think the last 30 minutes of the final episode rank up there with the absolute best the show has ever done. It got dusty in my house many times during those last two hours, and as a sustained, well-earned sentimental farewell, the finale was everything I could have hoped for.
I needed to be convinced, however. When last week's episode ended with Sarah's memories gone, I was alarmed (even though I thought "Chuck Versus the Bullet Train" was a good...

Just like in the children’s tale of the “little engine that could,” Chuck was a television show that kept on chugging away against all odds and carved out a place in television history by running five seasons on the sheer will-power of its fans. Millions of Subway sandwiches later, the fans are still passionately devoted to their show. Having coined the phrases: Nerd Herd, Buy More and Captain Awesome, as well as creating a whole new dialect comprised of “the Intersect”, “flashes” and “Jeffster” and redefining what it means when a TV show is “on the bubble,” Chuck is now legendary. It not only created a universally-accepted and widely used lexicon, Chuck also introduced characters which fans fell in love with from around the globe. As the cast will soon discover, fans are not quick to forget their beloved characters and the names: Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Morgan, Ellie, Awesome,...

So it has come to this. One last night with Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Morgan, Ellie, Awesome, and the Buy More gang. It’s been a great run. First we have a nice exciting TV spot to get you all excited for tonight’s two-hour series finale, then we have some wonderfully thoughtful and honestly tear-jerking farewells from the cast to get you all maudlin:
Let’s be clear: when they said “next Friday” on that TV spot, they meant Tonight.
If you’re new to the series, star Zachary Levi‘s farewell will give you a nice idea of what the show’s characters have been through. If you’re a fan, grab the Kleenex.
Yvonne Strahovski‘s farewell is pretty spoilery about one of Sarah’s scenes, but it’s not the final scene, so we recommend it – and did you remember she has an accent offscreen? It’s adorable.

Get your tissues ready, Chuck fans. Although the lights won’t shut off at the Buy More until Friday (NBC, 8/7c), we’re already getting misty-eyed, thinking about what we’ll miss the most from the spy comedy.
Chuck‘s Final Mission Intel, Part 1: There Will Be Blasts from the Past
From the cast’s impressive talents — Adam Baldwin’s knack for a simple guttural response, Yvonne Strahovski’s (fighting) chops, etc. — to a couple of special episodes, here are our picks for the things we loved (and will miss) most.

Previously on Zap2it's "Chuck" finale countdown, we spoke with Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin and the members of Jeffster! as they filmed the show's last episode. Up next: Morgan Guillermo Grimes himself, Joshua Gomez.
The prevailing theme during "Chuck's" final days of filming was, not surprisingly, the emotions the cast and crew were feeling at the end of their five-season run together. Joshua Gomez says the waves of feeling started even before that.
"I get a text from Ryan McPartlin going , 'Dude, I just got the last script. I'm in tears, man,'" Gomez says. "I'm like, 'Oh, was it good?' He's like, 'No, I just looked at the title.' I'm like, 'Dude, didn't you play football?' This guy, he blows my mind. He cries, this man. ...

In Part 2 of Zap2it's "Chuck" finale extravaganza, we talked separately with the members of Jeffster!, Vik Sahay and Scott Krinsky. Be sure to read our chat with Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin too.
There will be, arguably, more important moments in the series finale of "Chuck" than the reunion of Jeffster! for one last performance. But that final song is also arguably one of the most anticipated moments of the final episode.
We know there is a Jeffster! song in Friday's (Jan. 27) finale -- we heard a bit of playback when we watched a bit of filming in December. NBC has asked to keep the tune a secret, but we can let Vik Sahay and Scott Krinsky tell you a little bit about it.
"I really feel like the criteria must be 'What's the most difficult song for Vik to sing? That's how we'll choose our music!'" Sahay says.

Chuck began with a very special opening title, one fans will definitely appreciate especially since this was not the series finale and fans would love nothing more for familiarity come then. Perhaps the original opening awaits us in the finale episode? No matter, this week was the calm before the storm and an almost movie like opening set the tone perfectly for this week and the final episode. Embrace the movie like opening, people because this is it.
In “Chuck vs. the Bullet Train,” Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) and John Casey (Adam Baldwin) are on a mission to rescue Chuck (Zachary Levi), to Chuck’s surprise, with the intersect in Sarah’s head. In “Chuck vs. Bo,” Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) wasted no time in coming straight out about her thoughts of quitting the spy game to Chuck (Zachary Levi) and shift Carmichael Industries to an office job rather than a field job. But before this transition began, the team took some of their spy gear to Colorado for one last mission where Morgan (Joshua Gomez) was reunited with Bo Derek….his past “lover!” The first thing that surely came to everyone’s mind was, when did that happen? The next thought… what is Bo up to now in the world of Chuck? The title of the episode clearly details Bo as the bad guy. So it came as no surprise that Bo was involved with the case of the intersect. Is it safe to say she is our final female villain? Either way, it all made for one of the most entertaining episodes this season.

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 10, “Chuck Versus Bo”
Written by Kristin Newman
Directed by Jeremiah Chechik
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Throughout the tumultuous history of TV and movies, there has been one constant rule. Characters should never talk about taking “one last mission.” Variations on this law include one last score, one last job, or even one last night out with the guys. It’s all bad news. This makes Chuck and Sarah’s decision to take one last spy mission a thorny proposition. They recognize the dire ramifications of this move, but there’s no choice. They must take the chance and go against the conventional wisdom. This pop-culture precedent bodes poorly for their trip to Vail, even if the stakes are worth the risk. The location of a pair of Intersect sunglasses (another one?) is the invaluable prize, and they’re not the only people looking for it.

Chuck 5.10 "Chuck Vs. Bo" Review
Chuck season 5 emerges with its tightly-coiled tenth entry in this week’s "Chuck Vs. Bo" Morgan's past with the Intersect drags Chuck and Team Bartowski on one last mission in Vail to meet with superstar Bo Derek as herself, and uncover a new villain. Things are really starting to move along in Chuck's final episodes, and thankfully "Bo" manages to keep a good balance of its many plot lines toward one of the more fun episodes of the season.
Well, there’s three episodes left. That should be enough time to give Casey the Intersect too, right? Maybe Big Mike, or one of the Buy More extras?
All kidding aside, “Chuck Vs. Bo” left us with a lot to digest, particularly in those last few minutes as Casey and Sarah seemed pinned down by a barrage of gunfire, their only hope for Sarah to...

Chuck Sneak Peek: Will They Quit the Spy Business?
There are just two episodes left before the big Chuck series finale on January 27 and this season has focused on what the future holds for these characters and a big question mark hangs over their future career options. We have already seen the gang turn down a return to the CIA and the idea of raising a family has been getting louder as the season has progressed, with Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) mistakenly thinking she was pregnant last week (check out our review here). Don't get too cosy yet as the final villain that they will be facing is introduced this week and it looks like he is set upon causing some major havoc.
The mission this week involves fallout from Morgan's (Joshua Gomez) time as the Intersect which means he has to get those delightful frosted tips back. It also strangely...

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 9, “Chuck Versus the Kept Man”
Written by Craig Digregorio and Phil Klemmer
Directed by Fred Toye
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Nearing the end of its final season, Chuck has focused more on solidifying its relationships than delivering a knockout conclusion. The missions and action scenes remain in place, but they’re designed to help the characters better understand their lives. Chuck and Sarah use each new conflict to fine-tune their feelings about their future as spies. After losing Alex because of the false Intersect, Morgan doesn’t give up and proves he’s worth another chance. Their reunion was more exciting than many of the over-the-top action scenes. Even the loner Casey has started dating Gertrude Verbanski (Carrie Anne-Moss), though he’s struggling to figure out whether they share a long-term connection. These bonds keep the show interesting, even when the main plots fall short.

This week’s episode of Chuck took a back seat in exhilaration and heart pounding action. Ordinarily, a break from all of the action would be fitting but with these being the final episodes of the series… much is expected. And unfortunately there was not enough action… or comedy. Last night’s episode actually seemed rather slow moving. With such dynamite episodes in the past few weeks, this change of pace did not go unnoticed. So while this episode does not stand out among the rest, it did provide for some entertainment.
In “Chuck vs. the Kept Man,” John Casey (Adam Baldwin) rekindles the fire with Gertrude Verbanski (Carrie-Anne Moss) who also becomes the first client of Carmichael Industries ever since their C.A.R.E. Mission Statement released. Let it be noted that Moss and Baldwin’s chemistry is off the charts! Chuck (Zachary Levi) is so clever and so human!

Chuck 5.09 "Chuck Vs. The Kept Man" Review
Chuck season 5 trots out its prize-winning ninth entry with this week’s "Chuck Vs. The Kept Man" as Casey faces challenges to his own masculinity as Gertrude Verbanski (Carrie-Anne Moss) and her aggressive affections return with a new mission for Carmichael Industries. Last week's "Chuck Vs. The Baby" did a good job of wrapping up most things Chuck, but "Kept Man" still manages to add some tender resolutions to our favorite characters.
I’m proud to say that I enjoyed tonight’s “Chuck Vs. The Kept Man,” more than I enjoyed any other episode of Chuck this season, and not simply because “Kept Man” represents the first new Chuck in weeks that NBC didn’t unabashedly burn off during the holiday season. Perhaps the imminent ending of the series makes everything feel that much more gripping, or the writers themselves have finally dropped...

The A-story on "Chuck" Friday (Jan. 6) involves the return of Gertrude Verbanski (Carrie-Anne Moss) and her relationship with Casey (Adam Baldwin). But we're not here to talk about the A-story right now.
The clip up above involves Jeff (Scott Krinsky), who is putting his recently de-addled brain to use by piecing together some of the odd happenings at the Buy More. Why, for example, is Casey in the store before his shift, and wearing a fancy sweater to boot? Why are Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) always going into the home theater room?
Lester (Vik Sahay) isn't much help, so Jeff decides to sort through things himself, using a rather low-tech method.
How close do you think Jeff will get to figuring things out? And if he does, will Chuck and the team find a way to turn him back into the old Jeff?...

Here's how good this Christmas episode of "Chuck" was: The NBC promo department's unleashing a rather huge spoiler two weeks ago had only a negligible impact on how much we enjoyed it.
Would it have been better not to have seen Daniel Shaw before he was revealed to be the mysterious prisoner the Omen virus released? Sure. The show clearly wanted it that way -- we saw his feet and body in the breakout scene, but his face was out of frame until he surprised Sarah in Castle.
But it's a testament to the show that even though those of us who saw the promos could connect the dots and realize Shaw was the one pulling the strings, "Chuck vs. the Santa Suit" still managed to be full of holiday awesomeness.
Appropriately, the return of Shaw echoed the last episode with Brandon Routh in a lot of ways: He went...

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 6, “Chuck Versus the Curse”
Written by Alex Katsnelson
Directed by Michael Schultz
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Near the end of this season’s first great episode, General Beckman asks a telling question, “It was a bit like old times, wasn’t it?” This may be true for the characters, but it’s even more telling for Chuck as a series. The previous five episodes had strong moments, but they lacked the consistent entertainment of its heyday. This week, the entire main cast is directly involved in the story, even nearly forgotten characters like Ellie and Alex. It’s a welcome return to form and doesn’t strand half the characters in unnecessary subplots. They work together to defeat a dangerous enemy in a refreshingly cohesive story from Writer Alex Katsnelson, who co-wrote “Chuck Versus the Muurder” last season. Both his writing and the...

For about 55 minutes on Friday (Dec. 9), "Chuck" was rolling through a very satisfying, mostly stand-alone episode. And then the last five minutes changed that, a lot.
"Chuck vs. the Hack-Off" was still very satisfying. But the switch that flipped with those final scenes set up what feels like a great launching pad for the final episodes of the series -- which, incidentally, is not taking a break between now and the series finale on Jan. 27.
I say "stand-alone episode" because the mission Decker offered Chuck and Sarah, in exchange for clearing Casey's name, was a pretty straightforward one: Find virus, recover virus, hand over virus. Since Decker was involved, it was natural to expect something more might be in play, but the mechanics of the job weren't all that complicated.*
(*Given Decker's track record, though, Chuck and Sarah probably should have been a little prepared for his swerve at the end.

Chuck has had its share of great guest stars during its five-year run. But for fans of the NBC series and the network’s other underdog comedy, Community, perhaps no guest appearance has been more hotly anticipated than this Friday’s visit from Abed himself, Danny Pudi.
With Lester (Vik Sahay) in jail for trying to poison Jeff (Scott Krinsky) in the last episode, a space opens up at the Buy More that the Community scene-stealer aptly fills. “He comes in as a Nerd Herder to shake up the other Indian Nerd Herder whose name cannot be uttered apparently,” previews Joshua Gomez with a snicker,...

Danny Pudi's secret role on "Chuck" is no longer so secret.
NBC has released a couple pictures of the "Community" star's guest role in Friday's (Dec. 9) episode, and as you can see by the uniform, he's playing a member of the Nerd Herd. And he's apparently pretty chummy with Morgan (Joshua Gomez) and the still-sober, hair-in-place Jeff (Scott Krinsky).
Missing from that picture, of course, is the Buy More's other full-time Nerd Herder, Lester (Vik Sahay). Jeff had him arrested at the end of "Chuck vs. the Business Trip," and he's still in the custody -- although judging by the array of wires in the background, it looks more like he's incarcerated in the Buy More storage cage than in an actual jail cell.
We have to think that Pudi's character being at the store has something to do with Lester being indisposed -- and we also have...

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 4, “Chuck Versus the Business Trip”
Written by Kristin Newman
Directed by Alan Kroeker
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
During its first three weeks, Chuck’s fifth season relegated many of its supporting characters to the sidelines. It also struggled with resolving the uneven story line of Morgan as the Intersect. Both of those issues disappear quickly in the fourth episode, which moves closer to a return to form. Last week’s cliffhanger had Morgan walking out to his car, unaware of the car bomb waiting for him. There was little tension, especially since NBC ruined the resolution in their previews. During this week’s opener, it is entertaining to watch Morgan perform one of the slowest walks ever to ensure Chuck could save him in time. Following this close call, he’s ready to get rid of the Intersect, and General Beckman is more than happy to oblige.

"Chuck" hit its final-season stride last week with an episode that brought the Morgan-as-Intersect story to a head and felt like the most assured episode of the season thus far.
This week, "Chuck vs. the Business Trip" upped the bar in just about every way. A solid mission -- accomplished with no one having the Intersect -- good couple dynamics between Chuck and Sarah, fine comedy from the team of Gomez & Baldwin, solid non-spy subplots and a big bang of an ending all clicked together expertly.
Things pick up right where they left off, with Morgan narrowly avoiding death thanks to Chuck (let's all pour one out for his douche-cycle, shall we?). They then get the Intersect out of Morgan's head, figuring that once he's back to normal, Decker -- it was him who put the hit out -- will call off the kill order.
Except ... no. In addition to all his CIA hitters,...

If you're wondering whether the friendship between Chuck and Morgan could survive Morgan's Intersect-addled brain, Friday's (Nov. 18) episode of "Chuck" should answer that question with an overwhelming yes.
We learned at the end of last week's episode that because Morgan (Joshua Gomez) was a little too free with the knowledge that he had the Intersect, there's a kill order on his head. Carmichael Industries takes the obvious step -- trying to get the Intersect out of Morgan's head -- but Chuck (Zachary Levi) also goes a little further.
In "Chuck vs. the Business Trip," Chuck poses as Morgan at a Buy More convention in hopes of drawing out the assassin, with Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) as his backup. They soon discover that the convention hotel is a veritable buffet of death -- and that includes the buffet, as you can see in the clip at the top of the post.

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 3, “Chuck Versus the Frosted Tips”
Written by Phil Klemmer
Directed by Paul Marks
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
There comes a point in many shows when long-time fans have to decide what they expect from new episodes. Is it enough to just enjoy hanging out with favorite characters, even if the story lets them down? This question has likely been on the minds of Chuck’s dedicated (if limited) audience during the early fifth season. Putting the Intersect in Morgan hasn’t worked, even with the surprising conflict that’s come out of it. This move has changed the focus and left many characters lurking outside the frame. Involving such a large cast in each episode is tricky, and it grows even tougher when the tone is all over the map.

"Chuck" is trying to cover a lot of ground in the 13 episodes it has for its final season, and because the season is short a lot of people were wondering why the show would choose to begin the season with Morgan having the Intersect.
I submit that "Chuck vs. the Frosted Tips" is why. It's easily the best of the first three episodes that have aired in Season 5, and it pays off the Morgan-Intersect story in a way that also makes the logic of the previous two hours easier to understand, while giving us a deeper exploration of Chuck and Morgan's relationship than we've had in some time.
And we'll get to that in a minute. First, we have got to talk about the sexiest fight/foreplay scene on television in recent memory, between Casey and Gertrude Verbanski.
We saw a little bit last week of the very un-Casey-like feelings...

I have a feeling "Chuck Versus the Frosted Tips" is going to be very divisive. There were so many things to enjoy, yet so many issues with the episode that even I both loved it and hated it all at the same time. Divisive, I say.
Before the conclusion, where it surprisingly became clear that Morgan was going to return to normal, I had many a worry for fans of the Bearded Bandit. Personally, I found his new egomaniacal state to be hilarious, but I could definitely hear the roars of fanboys complaining that this wasn't the Morgan we learned to love back in the beginning.
My problem wasn't with his transition to the Luke Skywalker-forgetting, personal assistant-needing, dumping-by-text-message Morgan we watched for most of the episode, but rather, the ease in which he turned off the cocky switch.
I loved that Chuck was able to talk Morgan down from...

Chuck Ep. 5.02, “Chuck Versus the Bearded Bandit”
Written by Lauren LeFranc and Rafe Judkins
Directed by Patrick Norris
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Over the past few seasons of Chuck, key revelations have clarified that Chuck Bartowski was more than just the guy who accidentally received the Intersect. His brain has the unique ability to handle the tremendous volume of information and special skills injected by the device. Chuck’s personality also remains intact, which keeps him from becoming too power-hungry. In last season’s “Chuck Versus the A-Team,” top CIA stars couldn’t handle this power with the same even-handed approach. Now that Morgan inadvertently has the Intersect in his head, will he face similar problems as those agents? The premiere mostly played his new role for laughs, but its follow-up shows that life isn’t so rosy for the lovable sidekick.

Last week's season premiere introduced us all to Morgan Grimes with the intersect, making us all wonder whether or not this was the correct path for the show to take. "Chuck vs. the Bearded Bandit" expanded on that theme in a number of ways, both for good and for bad.
Intersect Morgan is all riled up and ready to take on all bad guys all the time. This can be good, as it proved to be hilarious when he named himself the Bearded Bandit and started talking in weird, deep voices. It also provided a ton of great action sequences because our Bearded friend wanted to fight anyone and anything that was in the way.
This was also bad, though, because he continued to get the gang into trouble. Whether it was getting his picture in the paper for being a terrible vigilante after the convenient store fiasco, or taking...

Chuck came back for its final season on Friday and with it came the return of our usual round table, Dan, Dr. Toboggan, and myself. Also along for the ride for this final season? A fresh perspective and webmaster of Sarah Walker Fangirls and new TV Fanatic staff writer, Kris Hekmi.
So enjoy our Round Table 2.0 ad we discuss "Chuck vs. The Zoom."
1. Funniest moment from the episode?
Dan F: Although the Buy More story was slight this week, the single moment that Jeff Barnes slyly stood up out of his wheelchair to put away a box was absolutely hilarious and worth the detour from the main plot.
Kris H: Tickled to the max with Sarah and Morgan's special handshake. Although a close second was the massage scene with Chuck, which reminded me a lot of the Friends gag when Ross had to do it.
Dr. T: I almost agree with Dan.

Chuck Review, Season 5, Episode 1, “Chuck Versus the Zoom”
Written by Chris Fedak and Nicholas Wootton
Directed by Robert Duncan McNeill
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Chuck’s season premieres sometimes feel rushed because they’re dealing with cliffhangers from the previous year while beginning a new story. For the fifth season opener, the changes are huge and could raise questions about whether the show can still work. Within a few minutes, it’s clear that the fun remains, despite any cosmetic changes. Luke Skywalker himself (Mark Hamill) appears as a silly gangster with a ridiculous accent for the opening scene. He’s nearly unrecognizable at first glance, but he still has the glint in his eye of the young farm boy from Tatooine. His appearance is far too brief, but having Luke onboard tells us that everything’s going to be okay for this light-hearted series.

Yes it’s been several months since we left the newlyweds to begin their new life together – with each other and with their new agency, and the new abilities of Chuck’s lifelong buddy Morgan. Do you remember all that happened at the end there? It was kind of an avalanche. Finally. Yvonne Strahovski is back on my TV. I've missed you, my love.
The fifth and final season of Chuck starts tonight — and I can't wait. NBC actually did the right thing and gave this amazing show a chance to say goodbye in a way that will, we hope, make us smile through our tears. The Season 4 finale set the stage for a new dynamic this year: Chuck (Zachary Levi), Sarah (Strahovski) and Casey (Adam Baldwin) got fired, but, conveniently, Chuck inherited enough money to set up an independent spy organization at Buy More.
NBC released a slightly spoilerish sneak peek this week; watch at your own risk. (And hear Yvonne's incredibly hot Aussie accent.)
Sarah was looking at me in that last shot, so don't get any ideas.
Strahovski talked to the press this week about some of the new aspects of Season 5.
How does Sarah like married life?...

Chicago – There have been a number of casualties of the debacle of “The Jay Leno Show” but one has to believe that were NBC not in such dire straits when it comes to ratings (an increasingly depressing situation for the network with new lows nearly every week) that “Chuck” would have been canceled years ago. The program has been on “bubble watch” since its first season, when it dipped below 60th place in the weekly ratings. And yet here we are, reviewing the fifth-season premiere of the show that simply wouldn’t die.

Tonight is the night when out long, national nightmare finally comes to an end. Chuck is back for it's fifth and final(?) season tonight at 8:00pm Et/Pt on NBC. The show, with a small, but intensely devoted fanbase, has managed to propel it to a 13-episode fifth season, a fact that would have been roundly derided and laughed at had someone propsed such a thing during the first couple seasons. Nonetheless, we Chucksters have thirteen more hours to enjoy the exploits of our favorite accidental spy and his coterie of spies, villains, and wonderfully cheesy musician sidekicks.
When we last left Chuck, our hero married Sarah, Volkoff was defeated, Vivian Volkoff gave Chuck all of Volkoff Industries' holdings, Chuck & Sarah bought the Buy More and Castle to start their own private espionage business, Ellie and Captain Awesome knew Chuck was a spy, and....there was something else.......oh yeah,...

Chuck fans might disagree when it comes to this next question. Who's the better couple: Chuck and Sarah or Chuck and Morgan? True, Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) did get hitched and will probably live happily ever after making little spy-babies. But before those two found each other, Chuck and Morgan (Joshua Gomez) were joined geek-ily at the hip. And even through all the spy shenanigans, lies and Buy More drama, Morgan and Chuck kept their friendship strong and sturdy. We're getting closer and closer to October 28, really, Chuck fans.
With NBC delaying the fifth season premiere of this beloved series by a week, viewer anticipation is greater than ever. Not even exciting casting news such as this is enough to satisfy followers after such a lengthy hiatus.
Fortunately, the network has at least released its first official promo for "Chuck vs. The Zoom," along with the official episode synopsis. Both are posted below.
Chuck Final Season Promo: What's Ahead?
Without the Intersect in his head or the support of the CIA, the world of espionage is a much more dangerous place for Chuck Bartowski and his team of freelance spies. To start, Carmichael Industries takes on a slick, rich thief named Jean Claude (guest star Mark Hamill), and a conniving investor, Roger Bale (guest star Craig Kilborn), who has stolen money from some of the world's most dangerous people.

Now, the fate of the world lies in the unlikely hands of a guy who works at a Buy More Electronics store. Instead of fighting computer viruses, he must now confront assassins and international terrorists. With the government’s most precious secrets in Chuck’s head, Major John Casey of the National Security Agency assumes the responsibility of protecting him. His partner is the CIA’s top agent -and Chuck’s first date in years – Sarah Walker.

NBC is offering up the first look at Season 5 of "Chuck" in the form of some cast pictures, and a couple things strike us.
First, there's not a stitch of Buy More green in any of the photos, which is probably a relief to Adam Baldwin and Joshua Gomez. (The Buy More will still be part of the show, but we're guessing Casey and Morgan won't spend as much time on the sales floor.) And second, the team seems to take rather well to suiting up.
Oh, and also? Guns. Lots of guns in Castle. (See the first two pics below.)
The first batch of pictures focuses solely on the spy team -- Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Baldwin and Gomez -- so we'll have to wait to see new shots of Ellie (Sarah Lancaster), Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) and the rest of the Buy More crew.
Take a look at each of their individual pics,...

Chuck’s fifth season is continuing the series’ trend of having recognizable guest stars appear, with the latest additions being David Koechner and Catherine Dent. The two join such high profile guest stars as Tony Hale, Jordana Brewster, Chevy Chase, Brandon Routh, Linda Hamilton and Timothy Dalton. They’ll both appear in the fourth episode of the show’s final season, where Chuck and Sarah hold a Buy More Employee of the Year Convention at the Aloha Hawaiian Hotel and Resort in Riverside, Calif.
Chuck season 5 reaches out to Community
Koechner will be playing someone known as “Crazy Bob”, one of the many Buy More manager’s attending the convention. In the land of television, Koechner was best known for his work as the inappropriate and mean spirited Todd Packer on The Office. Koechner has a very “take it or leave it” acting style. He is often cast as obnoxious...

Hello from, L.A.!
The sun is shining, the Television Critics Association press tour is in full swing, there’s a party with Fox network stars tonight, I’m in the pacific time zone — which means this column is only an hour late — and I ate my weight in french fries from a food truck last night on Melrose Ave. I’m feelin’ pretty damn good, Roomies. And I hope you feel the same after reading this week’s scoop!
If not, you should probably e-mail me scoop requests to spoilerroom@EW.com. We’ll try again next week. And yes,...

What does Mark Christopher Lawrence love most about the upcoming final season of Chuck? It's going back to the basics.
That's what he told me and a few other journalists at Comic-Con, revealing how this season is going to focus more on the Buy More less on the around-the-world spy adventures we've often seen over the last year or two.
The big man behind Big Mike also discussed his character's role in the upcoming season, his major episode (the second one of the fall), and eating so many Subway sandwiches. Watch the full video interview and see/hear for yourself now!
