The film is dedicated to the late cinematographer Edward Klosinski, the husband of actress Krystyna Janda and one of Andrzej Wajda's closest collaborators. Klosinski died during filming and his wife decided to include in the movie her personally written monologue on his loss, which actually refers to the very subject of the film as well as the short story it is based on.
The movie is an encounter of two great Polish actresses, both of whom are winners of the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. They are Krystyna Janda and Jadwiga Jankowska-Cieslak.
Tatarak (2009) won the Alfred Bauer Prize (in tie with Giant (2009)) at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival in 2009.
