- The six remaining teams travel from Jaipur, India to Phuket, Thailand. A shop keeper hinders the movement of one team, while others who started the task after them complete it quicker. They find that time is not of the essence, while other teams find that a hurried pace doesn't translate to a victory, especially when one team makes mistakes for which they incur time penalties.—Allister Coots
- Jaipur, India was the sixth pit stop, with a mandatory rest period. Six teams remain. Tammy & Victor leave first. They're flying to Phuket, Thailand where they have to find a giant gorilla statue. It's at the zoo, but they don't know that.
Tammy's been to Thailand before, but she wasn't allowed to do anything. She talks about how her family thinks Victor is the smarter one.
Mike & Mel leave next. Mike asks his dad if he speaks any Thai. "Yea, mai tai," dad says. The pun is so painful, Mike can't bring himself to respond.
Kisha & Jen go to the travel agent instead of the airport.
Margie & Luke ride and Margie talks about how tiring signing constantly is. She wouldn't have it any other way, though.
Jaime continues to berate the cab driver and talk about how she dislikes the noise of India and foreign languages in general.
Mel & Mike catch Tammy & Victor at the travel agency.
The stuntmen leave in last.
Kisha and Jen are swarmed by children begging for money in their cab.
Everyone shows up at the travel agency at the same time except Kara and Jaime, who went directly to the airport, but end up on the same flight.
They arrive in Phuket and the race for taxis begins (as does Jaime berating the driver to go "very fast" - again).
Mel & Mike get left behind, looking for a cab.
Kara makes fun of Jaime for the way she talks to the locals.
The cab drivers don't immediately know where the gorilla statue is. The teams get out and start asking around in the street. ("Gorilla? Gorilla? Gorilla?") One by one people tell them the zoo. But Mel & Mike's cab driver tells them to go to the beach and they don't change direction when they see all the other teams going the other way,
The five teams arrive at the zoo. First, they have to pose with a tiger, then they have to be part of an elephant performance in which the animal steps and squats over them.
The teams race through the zoo shouting "tiger!" to find the animal. The stuntmen notice the animal handler only has one arm. This does not inspire confidence. Kisha and Jen figure they're safe because the tiger didn't eat the stuntmen who, they explain, are "bitesize." "About the size of the trainer's missing arm," Kisha says.
Meanwhile, Mel & Mike are driving around the beach, no gorilla in sight.
Mike and Mark finish getting squated on by the elephant first and get their next clue, to the oldest herb shop in Phuket. They have to select from 99 herb drawers to find their next clue.
Mike & Mel ask around the beach and brush off someone who tells them the gorilla is at the zoo. They finally believe someone who says the zoo. "It appears that Lady Luck did not shine brightly on Mike and Mel today," Mel says, before suggesting they stop for a Thai massage.
The cheerleaders call the stuntmen "the Tweedles" because they never stop talking.
The cheerleaders and stuntmen arrive at the herb shop at the same time and the cheerleaders immediately start berating the shop owner to open drawers. When he doesn't comply fast enough, they shout louder, because that always works.
Mark and Mike guess a correct drawer and get the clue first. Detour time. The choice: 100 barrells or two miles.
In 100 miles they have to prep a fishing ship for 10 days at sea. They fill 47 with drinking water and move 53 from the bottom deck to the roof.
In two miles they have to pull a rickshaw two miles through the streets of Phuket to a park, but they can't pay for directions.
Mel & Mike are in last place, but are so tickled by getting their tushes stomped by elephants that they don't seem to mind.
Meanwhile, the cheerleaders continue screaming at the herb man.
Tammy & Victor are the only ones who think to write down the numbers that have been called out.
Kisha & Jen leave next followed by Margie & Luke then Tammy & Victor. Jaime responds by screaming at the herb owner some more.
In the taxi, Mike White says he likes everyone on the race except Jamie, who is kind of a "mean girl."
At the herb shop, the mean girl finally gets their clue.
The stuntmen arrive at the rickshaws first, where one decides to put all the tools in a box to hide them from the following teams.
At the herb shop the Whites jovially call out numbers and don't get bummed when they don't find it immediately.
Margie & Luke and the cheerleaders arrive where the boats are supposed to be, but decide to go with rickshaws when they don't find them. The stuntmen pay their cab driver to lead them across the town. Tammy & Victor hop in their rickshaw, but totally overlook their flat tire and the tire pumps that Mark hid nearby.
Mel & Mike find their clue and go with 100 barrels. The employees of the shop are smiling then they leave. Victor tires of pulling Tammy. "I don't like saying this, but my sister is a little heavy," he says.
The cheerleaders also have a flat tire, but don't notice over their screaming at the locals for direction. Luke pulls Margie in the rickshaw.
Mark & Mike get the next clue, leading them to the pit stop at a temple. They get back in their cab and find it quickly, while some teams are still looking to start their detours. They're first. However, they incurred two 30 minute penalties: One for hiding the bicycle pumps and another for hiring the cab driver to show them the way to the park. They sit and wait it out.
Kisha and Jen work on filling and moving their barrels, but don't realize they could leave the hose on and do both. Mel & Mike arrive. The other teams haul rickshaws. Victor won't let Tammy pull. Luke is hauling the rickshaw at an angle that's almost dumping his mom, but she can't get his attention to say so. Finally, they switch.
Tammy & Victor arrive at the park and drop their rickshaw only to follow the signs and realize they needed to haul it further. They head back to get it.
The cheerleaders leave in second place. The stuntmen have 12 minutes of penalty to go. Kisha & Jen are slightly ahead of Mike & Mel on the boat.
Margie & Luke arrive at the park where Margie feels lightheaded as they get in the cab to the pit stop.
Tammy & Victor arrive at the pit stop and, with the stuntmen still waiting it out, earn first and five days in Oahu, probably the first time a bicycle pump has cost anyone a Hawaiian vacation. The cheerleaders are right behind for 2nd.
In the cab, Margie complains that her fingers and mouth are numb.
The stuntmens' timeout expires and they come in 3rd. Margie & Luke arrive next, where she asks for water. They hear they're in fourth and then Margie starts to swoon. Phil catches her as she slumps to the ground and people rush to help her. Luke watches helplessly as Phil pours water on her head and they fan her off. She waves off an ambulance and says she's OK, if slightly embarrassed.
Kisha & Jen finish 10 barrels ahead of the Whites. They take a cab to a temple - just not the right one. Their cab driver leaves.
The ever-cheery Whites get in a cab as the sisters find another.
"It's only a game, but boy does this game get intense sometimes," Mel says.
Shots of both teams in cabs are intercut. Who's first?
Kisha & Jen arrive in fifth. Then the Whites arrive last and are eliminated from the race. "Very sorry to see you go," says Phil, honestly sorry to see them go. He asks Mel what's special about his son. "Keep it together, Dad," Mike says, lovingly. "He's smart, he's wise, he's mature. This is my kid. I've left something in the world that will make it a better place," he says. "We've been father and son my whole life," Mike says. "But I don't think we've ever been teammates and being teammates brings a whole different kind of camaraderie."
Next week: Karaoke in Bangkok (in a minivan) and Mark & Michael make a critical mistake, losing their bags. One accuses the other (oh, like you know which is which), of not wanting the million bucks, but just wanting to play.
