As the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences continues to figure out how and when to finally hold this year’s Daytime Emmys — delayed in June due to the WGA strike — it has gone ahead and announced the nominations for this year’s 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmys.
There’s no date yet for this year’s Chidren’s & Family Emmys — NATAS is likely waiting for a hopeful soon resolution to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike before firming up dates. But last year, winners were announced during two ceremonies—one focused on creative and technical arts, and the other to performances and programming—at Wilshire Ebell Theatre on December 10 and 11. This year’s Cafe will likely be held around the same time — and NATAS could very well use that timeframe to simultaneously finally hold the Daytime Emmys as well.

Another day, another moral panic about Disney using cartoons to lure children down a path of sexual degeneracy.
In a turn of events that seems inevitable in hindsight, various right-wing trolls are speaking out against “Baymax!,” a new Disney+ series based on the inflatable robot from “Big Hero Six.” The spinoff follows the eponymous robot as he leaves his superhero life behind and returns to his normal job as a healthcare professional in San Fransokyo. Each of the six episodes sees him traveling to a different part of the city to help people with various ailments, providing plenty of life advice and companionship in the process.
The show was intended to be a wholesome vehicle to tell stories about healing people’s bodies and minds at the same time. Creator Don Hall has been open about the fact that it was inspired by vintage medical dramas featuring kind doctors who always solve their patients’ problems.

Baymax gets his own animated series — the first Disney+ series from Disney’s feature animation unit — and it’s a far cry from his superhero antics in the “Big Hero 6” feature and previous animated spin-off series. “Baymax!” (streaming Wednesday) finds the affable, inflatable robot (voiced by Scott Adsit) returning to his original programming as a healthcare companion in San Fransokyo. In the six short episodes, he helps people with physical ailments while also getting them over emotional hurdles as well.

In search of a different perspective for “Baymax!,” the Oscar-winning director of “Big Hero 6,” “Moana,” and the upcoming “Strange World” reached back to television’s past. “I remembered back as a kid watching medical procedurals...

Maya Rudolph has played numerous iconic characters, from Donatella Versace to Vice President Kamala Harris. But there was a time when Rudolph might have played Eve Polastri, the role immortalized by Sandra Oh in “Killing Eve.”
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter this week, released in anticipation of Rudolph’s new Apple TV+ series “Loot,” Rudolph talks about roles she’s turned down. One was the title role in the BBC dark comedy created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Rudolph said she was offered the role and would have immediately done it. “But there was no way I was about to move to Europe for months. Like, how?” Rudolph said in the interview.
The role of Eve would eventually go to Oh who would go on to win a Golden Globe for playing the character in 2019. Oh would be nominated three times for her performance at the Primetime Emmy awards though she never won.

Disney and Pixar have debuted a new teaser trailer for the upcoming animation ‘Turning Red’.
Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly poofs into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is practically Always). Sandra Oh voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager.
Directed by Domee Shi – who won an Oscar® for her 2018 short film, Bao – the film also features the voice of Sandra Oh and Rosalie Chiang. Orion Lee is the voice of Mei’s dad, Jin, and Wai Ching Ho is the voice of Grandma. Mei’s tight-knit group of friends are voiced by Ava Morse as Miriam, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Priya, and Hyein Park as Abby. Tristan Allerick Chen voices classmate Tyler, and Addie Chandler lends his voice to Mei’s secret crush Devon.

Since Walt Disney Pictures Animation first debuted “Big Hero 6” in 2014, the movie’s intrepid inventor Hiro, his adorable robot companion Baymax, and their team of Stem-enhanced superheroes have been regular fixtures within the larger Disney pop-culture ecosystem.
Despite recent reports, however, Hiro, Baymax and the rest of the “Big Hero 6” crew are not currently set to make their live-action debut within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Variety has confirmed with a source at the studio.
It’s understandable why there would be so much anticipation for “Big Hero 6” to join the MCU. Disney, however, made several major changes. Rather that setting in Japan like in the comics, for example, the animated feature was set instead in...
