The ending of the previous episode seemed to be giving us a new, but classic "Lost in Space" set up for the final four episodes. I am starting to worry though that, though it was established that the end was coming with the 'renacelling' for this season, they might have decided to leave some aspects of the plot open ended.
The family Robinson crash land on a marshy planet but are separated. June Harris (Parker Posey) watches as Will (Maxwell Jenkins) risks his life for the bag he needs for he and the Robot's secret mission. Penny (Mina Sundwall) and John (Toby Stephens) locate the wreckage of Robot's ship and discover he has been pinned in place; they work to release him without alerting SAR as to their location. Meanwhile Judy (Taylor Russell) and Maureen (Molly Parker) are trapped on the Jupiter as it's slowly eaten by a large creature.
This was quite a fun episode, splitting up the family allowed for a lot of character work, the most of which is done in the Judy and Maureen sections, which include flashbacks to when Judy was born. You have a lesson in the potential negative effects of constant positive reinforcement. Maureen doesn't mean to, but her years of telling Judy that "she can do anything" have led to her putting undo pressure on herself, including ignoring that she's significantly injured when affecting their rescue.
I still don't get what's going on with Will's plan though. I get that he wants to find out what happened to the people that made the robot, but I don't really understand how a skull and a language he can't understand are going to help - and perhaps more worryingly, I don't see how that can fit into a show that only has three episodes left.
Still, as far as episodes of this series go, this was one of the better ones.
