While driving his daughter Emily to school, there is a traffic jam and Dr. Lightman decides to find why. He learns from his acquaintance, the District Attorney Gail, that two Indian sisters have committed suicide from the same bridge within three days. He becomes obsessed and decides to investigate the reason for suiciding. Out of the blue, another Indian girl commits suicide on the subway, and he sees that the suicides are not coincidence. Meanwhile, Dr. Foster and Loker investigate a case of embezzlement of the money for pension plans committed by the millionaire Joseph Hollin. She finds that the man is innocent and his daughter Carolyn is the real thief and proposes a deal to him: he could assume the embezzlement provided he returned the money to the pensioners. In return, she would not accuse Carolyn. However, Loker disagrees with Foster's arrangements.
