- Morning comes for small, computer game loving teenager Kenny, who cheerfully prepares alone for his first day at West Valley Middle School. While he waits at the bus stop, he dances to his music and almost misses the bus, which the other kids mock him mercilessly for. At the forefront of the insults is Anthony LaRusso.
Daniel arrives at the Miyagi-Do dojo with Mr. Miyagi's Japanese sanding blocks, but finds Johnny on the new deck with a power sander. Daniel is annoyed at Johnny ruining what he sees as a perfect opportunity for teaching, and he and Johnny make a deal to train in eachothers' styles so they can better understand one another.
Amanda goes to see Tory at her waitressing job, confronting her about breaking into their house and warning her to stay away from Sam. When Tory gets angry and insults another customer, she is fired on the spot, which makes Amanda feel bad as that was not her intention.
At Middle School, Kenny tries out for the basketball team, and though Anthony and his friend Zach continue to make fun of him, he proves himself an able player, which only annoys them further. A girl that Anthony likes named Lia defuses the situation and compliments Kenny on his Dungeon Lord tee shirt, and he has an instant crush on her.
Johnny is impatiently training in Miyagi-Do under Daniel for the day, and though he doesn't initially understand the lessons, he stays with it until the end of the day. Tomorrow, it's Daniel's turn.
At Cobra Kai, Robby is drilling the Cobras in Miyagi-Do so they can learn how to counter their defenses. Kreese notices Tory is upset, and learns that Amanda got her fired from her job.
Kenny returns home from school downtrodden, the house still empty. He cheers up when he gets a phone call from his dad, and we learn that Kenny's father is in the Middle East deployed with the U.S. Army, and his mother is often at the office working. After the call, Kenny plays Dungeon Lord on his computer and receives a friend request from "Lia", which he eagerly accepts. They play together online for hours, messaging back and forth. However, we see that "Lia" is actually Anthony and his friends, posing as Lia online so they can learn embarrassing details about Kenny. Zach tells him to invite Kenny to the park at night wearing a costume from his game, and Anthony does, despite having misgivings about the whole situation.
At the grocery store, Kreese finds and confronts Amanda about Tory, guilting her for getting her fired when it is up to her to take care of her sick mother and little brother. Amanda regrets threatening Tory.
The next morning Daniel goes to Johnny's apartment to start his Eagle Fang training, and Johnny takes him to an abandoned factory and puts him through rigorous physical challenges designed to help him be more aggressive.
That evening, Kenny goes to the park in costume thinking Lia invited him, only to be ambushed by Anthony, Zach, and their friends, who go to post the incident online. Kenny tries to stop them, accidentally breaking Anthony's phone. Zach and his friends attack and beat up Kenny, and coerce Anthony into using karate on him (which Anthony doesn't know). Before Anthony can strike, Kenny escapes and outruns them, but he is shaken and hurt.
Daniel and Johnny end the day by attending a hockey game, where Johnny points out the aggression the teams are showing eachother in order to win. Daniel points out a fowl, which Johnny shouts to the referee, who penalizes the offending player. Johnny tells the player that Daniel told on him, and the player is furious at Daniel. Daniel refuses to give into to Johnny's attempts to start a fight between him and the hockey player, and his peacemaking seems to work. However, after the game, the player and several others from the team angerly confront Daniel and Johnny, who disappears. Daniel again tries to de-escalate the situation, but once they recognize him from his TV commercials and make lewd comments about his wife, Daniel goes on the attack, easily incapacitating all of the large hockey players. Johnny compliments Daniel, having slipped away to the concession stand to let Daniel fight alone.
At the LaRusso Auto dealership, Tory enters and throws down a bag of groceries that Amanda dropped off at her apartment, telling her she doesn't need her pity or help, and storms away.
Kenny takes a bus and goes to visit his brother in Juvenile Detention, revealed to be Shawn Payne, the inmate who fought with Robby and gained his respect when Robby was incarcerated. Kenny explains the bullying happening at school. When he mentions that one of them supposedly knows karate, Shawn sends Kenny to someone he thinks can help.
