Spike Jones' Clink! Clink! Another Drink was another amusing Soundie I watched on YouTube
tavm20 July 2011
This was another Soundie I watched on YouTube. This one takes place in a bar from probably the late 19th or early 20th century. Anyway, Del Porter is the lead singer while Spike plays a bartender and Mel Blanc is a drunken customer who vows to just partake of milk from now on! There's also a pretty woman who dances near the end as some P.O.V. shots become blurry. Oh, and we actually look at an actual Panoram (film jukebox) that displays some of the lyrics on screen. Quite amusing, this "music video" from the '40s that played on the device I mentioned in various restaurants, bars, and train or bus stations during that time. So on that note, Clink! Clink! Another Drink is worth a look.

The alcoholic's anthem

Spike Jones and his City Slickers bring their unique brand of music to this soundie and their version of Clink! Clink! Another Drink. We also get as guest star in this early music video Mel Blanc playing a rather inebriated individual.

The gay nineties setting for the barroom was a nice touch for this musical short. The entertainment of Spike Jones is eternal.

Raise your glasses.
