A Flawed Masterpiece

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a flawed, but amazing game.

While initially held back by the technical limitations of the Wii, This game on the Wii was a flower in a field of grass. A Heartfelt story about growth, change, love, and pain. The game has the player visit three surface locations, with comprehensive and challenging, but fun, puzzles and dungeons. Difficult enemies, clever solutions, and great cutscenes. The side quests involve comedic characters, valuable loot, and fun quests.

The original games motion controls were very finnicky and difficult to use, and The companion character (fi) was very annoying

The HD Switch Port of this game fixes almost all of the original issues with this game, optional button controls, reduced Fi appearances, and Glitch fixes.

While there are a few annoying, and tedious features in this game, I had a lot of fun playing it, and I'm sure (Zelda fan or not) you will too.

Skywardly swording

Skyward Sword is the only Zelda game built this heavily on motion controls and linear progression, but neither of these things are bad. The linear progression allows for some great level design and fantastic dungeons. The motion controls being the front and center of the gameplay makes for a very unique and fun experience.

This game also has the best story in the series and a fantastic fully orchestrated soundtrack. The art style is also great. The characters are some of the goofiest and most fun in any Zelda game, namely Groose and Ghirahim. The side content is also really good.

The final showdown is one of the best in any videogame.

Best Zelda Game Of All Time

This game is amazing in every way. The graphics are absolutely beautiful and the story is epic. The music is wonderful as well. I love the side quests for this game because they make it more nuanced. This game is best Zelda game I've played and the most difficult to beat. Ocarina of Time is amazing and challenging but no match for this game. I love riding on the Loftwing which is a giant red bird. I love that this is the first in the Zelda legend. There is so much to see and do in this game. So much fun to play and so satisfying to beat. The adventure of a lifetime awaits players of this brilliant game.

The Avocado-fighting journey

Warning: Spoilers
Skyward Sword is the second Zelda game I played and finished. The story was interestingly good, knowing it is the origin of Hyrule. Shredding some light and introductions to people who are new to the franchise. One thing I think was weird was the people from Skyloft. Normally, when a princess is abducted a search party has taken place whilst here, it was just Link looking for her. It was also weird that when the Sacred Statue collapsed from the sky and went back to the ground, the people don't even flinch. With the earthquake and part of Skyloft collapsing, I never saw any reactions from them. Fi as companion wasn't as annoying as what people say. Probably because I played the remastered one and they changed that a bit. I wouldn't say that she's the best though. As to gameplay, dungeons and puzzles are still fun. I like the one where Link has to change the location of the rooms in order to get to the end (which they thought was The End until Ghirahim showed up). As the game is coming to the actual end, it was also getting more hyped and interesting. Having to fight dozens of bokoblins, moblins, etc., which I learned that you can just actually skipped them and just fight the ones before the fences, up to the fight with Ghirahim is pretty challenging. When you get to fight Demise, you'll be devastated on how it quickly finished. The satisfaction you'll get in collecting the tears in the trials is even more rewarding than finishing Demise. It was very meh!

I did have some problems when it comes to where should I play it. Since the game was designed for the Wii and remastered for the Switch, some attacks are difficult using just the controller compared to using the joy-con. I experienced it first hand when I switched from using the handheld to using the pro controller to using the joy-con. Example of these is swinging the sword is more accurate and fun to do as well as the finishing blow using the joy-con. But using some of the weapons like the beetle is way easier to maneuver with the pro controller. Even choosing weapons to use is easier with the controller. I know I'm not really good navigating with the camera but in Skyward Sword, I have to constantly re-center it especially when swinging the sword. It's kind of annoying to do that.

Moving forward, watching the end scene with Link, Groose, Zelda and Impa. Those four had gone through a lot and became closer. The saddest part was when Zelda met the old lady in the present realizing that it was the same Impa she knew and to witness her pass away was truely heartbreaking. I like the songs in the game. It was really good especially the ones given by the dragons. I think the Zelda franchise always have remarkable songs. 6/10.
