The first episode of Kin makes it clear. The crime families of Dublin will go to war. This is just the set up.
Eamon Cunningham (Ciarán Hinds) is the head of the city's drug trade. He tells Frank Kinsella (Aiden Gillen) head of a smaller drug family the system has changed.
From now on they could only sell Eamon's narcotics, not freelance as before. You do not have to be Daredevil to see that the Cunninghams will call the shots as they will set the price.
Eric who is Frank's hotheaded son is not going to stand for it. He takes shots at one of Cunningham's dealers. It now means Eamon has to authorise Eric being eliminated.
On the night the hit goes wrong and someone else is a casualty.
This is Godfather on the gritty streets of Dublin. It shows the underbelly of the Fair Isle.
With scenes of the other Kinsellas. Amanda the mother of a teenage son that she hopes will go to college. His father Jimmy not averse to his son following on his fathers footsteps and be an enforcer.
Then there is Micheal (Charlie Cox.) Frank's younger brother fresh out of prison and wanting to go straight so he can have contact with his daughter.
So not very original but well acted. It reminded me of British crime dramas from the 1980s such as Fox. Families that are torn apart when the patriarch may not be up for the fight anymore.
