Keanu Reeves is making headlines again after joining the cast of Paramount‘s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog by engaging in talks to star in Triangle of Sadness director Ruben Östlund’s next feature, The Entertainment System Is Down.
Variety broke the news on Friday. Still, details about the plot remain a mystery. Östlund says The Entertainment System Is Down is a social satire set on a long-haul flight with a faulty entertainment system. As boredom spreads throughout the cabin, rage starts to overwhelm the passengers. Chaos ensues. The idea for Östlund’s next feature is something he’s been building for years. The filmmaker says he’s been collecting anecdotes to use as inspiration for The Entertainment System Is Down, with several years of material at his disposal. Though it likely involves dark comedy and sharp humor, Reeves’s role remains a mystery.

It was recently reported that Cameron Diaz will be coming out of her decade-long hiatus to star with Jamie Foxx in the film that’s ironically titled Back in Action. Deadline is now reporting that Diaz will be continuing her return to movies with a part in a dark comedy that has been co-written and set to be directed by Jonah Hill. The movie was a big acquisition for Apple Original Films and has taken to assembling an A-list cast. Diaz is reportedly in negotiations to star alongside Keanu Reeves, who is also negotiating his contract. The two had previously starred together in the 1996 comedy Feeling Minnesota.
The details of the film, per Deadline, say,

Back in 2021, Keanu Reeves teamed up with Boom! Studios to bring us the comic book series Brzrkr, which Reeves wrote alongside Matt Kindt, working off of Reeves’ original idea. Netflix secured the rights to bring a live-action film adaptation of the comic book to their streaming service – and to follow that up with an anime spin-off series that will “expand the Brzrkr universe by exploring different elements of the story”. So far, there have been twelve issues of Brzrkr, as well as a couple one-shots called Poetry of Madness and Fallen Empire (which told of B.’s distant past). Reeves is also writing a book called Elsewhere with China Miéville that is “set in the world of Brzrkr“. While all of these stories play out on the page, the Netflix movie remains in development. Now it has been announced that we have another Brzrkr project to look forward to: a...

After the success of "Game of Thrones," HBO seems to be taking the same approach as AMC with "The Walking Dead" and doubling down on spinoffs of their flagship program. Season 1 of "House of the Dragon" was met with critical and audience acclaim, and the series premiere was watched by over 10 million on the first day, the biggest in HBO history. There's been talk of a film centered on Aegon Targaryen for quite some time, but news today seems to imply that HBO has decided to deliver a full-on series, rather than a singular film.
According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is developing a series called "Aegon's Conquest," and has tapped Mattson Tomlin to helm the series. Tomlin is one of the most sought-after writers currently working, having contributed uncredited work to Matt Reeves' "The Batman," co-writing the sequel "The Batman Part II," co-writing the adaptation of Keanu Reeves' "Brzrkr,...

‘Game of Thrones’ Aegon’s Conquest Spinoff in the Works From ‘The Batman Part II’ Writer (Exclusive)
HBO is developing another Game of Thrones spinoff series.
The company is actively heating up its long-in-discussion Aegon’s Conquest idea.
HBO is partnering with Mattson Tomlin, an in-demand scribe who did uncredited work on Matt Reeve’s The Batman and is co-writing its upcoming sequel, The Batman Part II. He also wrote the Keanu Reeves action comic adaptation Brzrkr and an animated Terminator series which he is also showrunning for Netflix.
Aegon’s Conquest is basically a direct prequel to the hit House of the Dragon, telling the story of the Targaryen’s bloody and brutal conquest of Westeros. The story follows the invader Aegon Targaryen, who conquered the continent of Westeros with his sister wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, and their dragons. Aegon successfully unified six of the Seven Kingdoms in just two years, with only Dorne able to successfully resist.
One source described the project as taking a...

Back in 2021, Boom! Studios unveiled the comic book series Brzrkr, based on an original idea by Keanu Reeves, who also wrote the comic book with Matt Kindt. Random House imprint Del Rey will be publishing The Book of Elsewhere on July 23rd. An audio edition will be released simultaneously by Penguin Random House Audio.

Following their collaboration on Apache Delivery Service, the creative trio of Matt Kindt, Tyler Jenkins, and Hilary Jenkins are reteaming for the horror comic book miniseries Hairball, centered on an increasingly dysfunctional family and the cat that may (or may not) be the source of their destruction.
Ahead of the first issue's release this April through Kindt's Flux House imprint at Dark Horse Comics, we've been provided with an exclusive reveal of the cover art for the fourth issue, as well as a look at the fur-lined cover for the upcoming trade paperback release of Hairball!
Here's what Matt Kindt had to say about Hairball and its uniquely unsettling trade paperback cover:
I want Hairball to be an uncomfortable book, but in an entertaining way.
This is a book about the slow disintegration of a family. It's also about a possibly supernatural cat that seems to be at the center of it all.

Despite making a career playing delightful but sometimes buffoonish himbo types, Keanu Reeves is actually an extremely well-researched performer. The "John Wick" actor, who has Asian ancestry, seems especially careful to cover all his bases when it comes to playing roles that draw from Asian storytelling traditions.
Reeves has long-since demonstrated a keen interest in samurai stories, learning katana and Japanese for the 2013 film "47 Ronin" and reading up on Bushidō, a moral code that embodies the philosophies of samurai culture. A full decade later, he's still applying what he's learned, this time for the latest installment of the popular action saga "John Wick." The film series began in New York, but as the franchise has grown, it's unveiled a global network of assassins. All the while, neck-snapping widower Wick has abided by his own moral code, which is often at odds with some of his coworkers. That will continue...

Netflix may not have a big superhero franchise, but they are absolutely in the comic book adaptation business. To that end, the streaming service is currently developing a TV show based on the best-selling Boom! Studios comic "Something Is Killing The Children." The series, which comes from writer James Tynion IV ("Batman") and artist Werther Dell'Edera ("Punisher War Journal") has been met with widespread acclaim, as well as massive sales numbers rarely seen outside of Marvel and DC Comics. That being the case, it's the perfect title to become a big streaming series.
The book was originally published in 2019 and was nominated for an Eisner, ultimately paving the way for the series to become an ongoing title, rather than the five-issue miniseries it was originally intended as. Keanu Reeves is on the record as saying he's "always wanted" to play Wolverine, but has indicated he's too old to bring the semi-immortal superhero to life. (As though everyone isn't well aware that Reeves is secretly a centuries-old vampire masquerading as the nicest guy in Hollywood.) So, in-between eating sandwiches on park benches, he went and did what anyone who really wants to portray an X-Man would do: he co-created his own comic book series about an unkillable warrior battling his way through the ages. With Blackjack! And, well, you know how the rest of the meme goes.
