Netflix is making it all pretty much complicated for Knives Out 3 the production of which is set to start later this year.
Directed by Ryan Johnson once again, the third installment starring Daniel Craig as quirky yet brilliant detective Benoit Blanc will hit the streaming service just like its predecessor, Glass Onion, in 2025 earliest.
Though so far the mystery trilogy had no competitors of the same league letting itself thrive amid everyone’s wild enthusiasm, things may turn out to be very different due to Netflix’s recently announced new movie.
Having a wholly changed facade, the upcoming murder mystery film The Thursday Murder Club still shares a lot with Knives Out, even its possible release time. The movie based on Richard Osman’s novel of the same name will follow a group of elderly people lucky enough to spend the rest of their life in a sumptuous retirement village.

It looks like Rian Johnson will be filming Knives Out 3 at the end of the year, with Daniel Craig back as Benoit Blanc.
A week or two back, writer/producer/director Rian Johnson – and his producing partner Ram Bergman – inked a new two-picture deal with Warner Bros. However, as speculated at the time, Warner Bros is going to have to wait its turn in the queue, as Johnson fulfils his commitment to Netflix. The same Netflix that paid for two Knives Out movies.
It’s had one already: Glass Onion, that proved a hit for the streamer back in 2022. Now, Johnson is ready to press ahead with Knives Out 3, and a report over at World Of Reel indicates that filming will take place at the end of this year. A November 2024 start date is being mooted, which suggests that whatever Knives Out 3 ends up being called will...

Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman are the latest to sign up for some of Warner Bros’ cash: more here.
Given Warner Bros Discovery has had its back against the wall for much of the last year or two, it was bound to try something to get out of the pickle it found itself in. In this case, the plan? Spend, and spend on talent.
Warner Bros – outside of Barbie – has become known as the studio that likes to delete completed films, and it ain’t a good look when trying to attract filmmakers. Still, the old-fashioned chequebook still seems to work, and over the past few months, the studio has inked expensive deals with the likes of Margot Robbie, Ryan Coogler and Tom Cruise.
The immediate priority for director Rian Johnson and regular producer Ram Bergman is their third Knives Out film, for which they’re committed to make for Netflix.

Daniel Craig and Angelina Jolie are known for their impressive filmography. Benoit Blanc will return to solve another bizarre case in Knives Out 3 which will reportedly film later this year. More here.
Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig are preparing to return to the wonderful world of Benoit Blanc.
Collider reports that cameras are rolling on the third instalment of Johnson’s riotously fun franchise later this year. Craig will return to play the master sleuth and Netflix is backing the film as it did Glass Onion.
That’s really all there is to this story. We have no casting news or even a title for the new whodunnit. We expect it won’t be called Knives Out 3; Knives Out 2 became Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery so expect something similar for the third film.
In October 2023, Johnson did confirm that he was working on the script for Knives Out 3, but work was disrupted by the writers’ strike.

Netflix paid big bucks for two Knives Out sequels. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery debuted last year, but the WGA strike obviously forced writer/director Rian Johnson to pump the brakes on the next installment. However, now that the strike is over, Johnson is back to work on Knives Out 3 and told The Wrap that he’s got the premise nailed down.
“It’s coming along. I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along,” Rian Johnson said. “I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing.“

The hit whodunit "Knives Out" brought quirked-up mysteries back to the big screen in 2019, a huge success with critics and audiences alike. Unsurprisingly, it caught the interest of streamers and studios that hoped to franchise the film. After several months of negotiation, writer-director Rian Johnson signed a deal with Netflix for two follow-up films. The first of these sequels, "Glass Onion," premiered in theaters in September 2022. However, little is known about the forthcoming third film, tentatively titled "Knives Out 3."
Now, the second film in this franchise featured an almost entirely different cast of characters with a totally new mystery to solve. At the center of both films is Benoit Blanc, a Cajun private eye played by Daniel Craig. Given that each entry in the series will present a totally new story, fans are left with very little information to speculate on. Between the writer's strike eating up most of...

Janelle Monae does not expect to return for 'Knives Out 3'.The 37-year-old actress had a key role as twin sisters Helen and Andi Brand in the whodunnit sequel 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' but is aware that the cast is likely to change completely for the third film, with the exception of Daniel Craig's sleuth Benoit Blanc.Janelle told Et Canada: "I would be honoured (to do 'Knives Out 3'). Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne wanted to buck the binge model with their new TV show, Poker Face. But the Knives Out director didn’t realize how hard of a sell that would be.
“Serialized storytelling in the world of streaming just has the gravity of a million suns right now,” the filmmaker tells The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the Peacock series’ Jan. 26 launch. “I didn’t really anticipate exactly how much it just is the only thing people think of in terms of storytelling.”
In Poker Face, Lyonne (who also executive produces, writes and directs) stars as Charlie Cale. She’s not a detective by any recognition of the law, but her unique skill of being a “human lie detector” — and her innate desire to right some of the wrongs in the world — places her in the center of a weekly murder mystery plot in the 10-episode series. Rian Johnson teases that Knives Out 3 will be different from the first two movies. Plenty of fans are already anticipating what the third movie is going to bring. The reactions to Knives Out and Glass Onion are great enough that it’s easy to believe that Johnson will strike it big again. However, it does feel that using Benoit Blanc as a super-sleuth is bound to backfire. Daniel Craig’s acting isn’t an issue. In fact, acting isn’t the issue at all. It’s the idea that Blanc’s detractors wouldn’t come around for revenge at one point. Creating a different movie each

Among other topics, the men reveal what iconic movie scores from their childhoods helped influence their decisions to become composers, what film genres they would love to work on in the future, and how the Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on their production schedules.

Through two movies, writer/director Rian Johnson has demonstrated a remarkable ability to craft mysteries that can attract an A-list ensemble for the ages. Both "Knives Out" and its sequel "Glass Onion," which was recently released by Netflix, are led by Daniel Craig as ace detective Benoit Blanc, but he is joined by a slew of great supporting stars. This time around, that list included Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, and Kate Hudson, among many others.
Johnson has also, in both films, managed to include a staple from his filmography in the form of actor Noah Segan, who has been working with the filmmaker since as far back as "Brick." Segan played the lovable Trooper Wagner in the first film, and Johnson found a way to bring Segan back this time around, even though he was telling a completely different story. Dave Bautista predicts “Knives Out 2” will be better than its predecessor, which is no easy feat considering the 2019 movie received near universal acclaim and an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Rian Johnson is currently filming the sequel overseas in Europe and recently wrapped filming portions of the movie in Greece.

“It feels good to say, ‘Cinema is back!’” Vin Diesel told Variety on Saturday night.
It was reported the following morning that “F9: The Fast Saga” raked in $70 million from 4,179 North American theaters, marking the largest opening at the U.S. box office since 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” The previous holder of this feat was Paramount’s “A Quiet Place Part II” with $48.3 million.
While day-and-date hybrid releases have industry analysts uncertain about the longevity of this summer’s box office, studios are entering production on many major tentpole films. Four notable blockbusters commenced filming on Monday, signifying a long-awaited sign of confidence from Hollywood.
“Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom,” which is set to debut in theaters on Dec. 16, 2022, is entering production 18 months ahead of its release. James Wan, the horror filmmaker who helmed 2018’s “Aquaman,” posted a picture on Instagram in an icy cavern to show that filming is underway.

Dave Bautista has been cast in the sequel to “Knives Out.”
He joins Daniel Craig, whose iridescent Detective Benoit Blanc propelled the first movie to box office glory, in an undisclosed role. Plot details for the follow-up have been kept under wraps, though it’s expected to enlist another A-list cast to anchor a soapy murder mystery. It’s unclear if any other stars from original ensemble will be returning.
Netflix declined to comment on Bautista’s casting.
The project reunites Bautista and Craig, who previously appeared together in the 2015 James Bond film “Spectre.” Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also teaming with Netflix on Zack Snyder’s zombie thriller “Army of the Dead.” His upcoming film roles include Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” remake, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
