S1 has nothing on S2 IMO
ldamena3 May 2021
While I enjoyed S1 a lot I do believe that S2 is much better. The action and writing are much better and I feel like I connect with the characters better now. I've mentioned that I love Ryan though I don't agree with what she did this ep, the decision to make her Batwoman was the best. Now with ----- return I feel like we got some of the darkness of S1 back. That's ok I like the mix of light and dark. Should be interesting how the writers handle that going forward. Sophie is also more likable this season, I couldn't stand her last season I can now. I want to see where her character goes once the reveal of Batwoman's identity and someone's return happen.

Ryan Wilder is not even a good person, let alone a (super)hero

Warning: Spoilers
So what Ryan did this episode to Alice, was absolutely the IT thing for me to dislike her and consider her a totally unworthy person to take up the mantle of a once paragon.

Her action qualifies her as not just a not-hero, but also a bad person. You didn't have to be a picture of forgiveness to have tried to save Alice, she just saved your ass.

Oh God with this show!

And the writers were too hopeful for Ruby Rose to come back that they didn't even dare to write her off the story and just be done with her. Keeping Kate Kane in the story in this way is just a joke. It's even worse than the joke they did on The Flash with the elongated man. Lol However her twist with Alice is going to be interesting.

"I've always wanted to ride in the Batmobile."

Glen Winter makes his debut within Batwoman!

This episode felt distinct right from the start. Certainly the best episode from Season 2, even a contender for the best episode from both the seasons. Cinematography had improvement, with that the ambience was significant. Remarkable editing as well. Camera movement overall was great but the main recognition had to be the perspectives and the great angles that occurred simultaneously within the editing. The lightning and hair-makeup accomplishment was wonderful.

Wallis Day's acting was noteworthy and can't wait to see more of her. Javicia has definitely grow as Ryan and is now one of my favorites in this show.

However it has nevertheless some setbacks, such as occasionally the acting wasn't there for me and had greatly amount of dialogues. Would have loved to see Glen Winter tackle more of visual storytelling. Although i know it's Gotham and suppose would look gloomy, i would have liked to see some more colors. At least more silhouettes. It has huge potential to play around with shadow and structures. Such as in the room where Peter Outerbridge, Laura Mennell and Wallis Day were in. Magnificent color palette there and had substantial illumination from the lamps/fires that assemble staggering shadows that makes an prodigious atmosphere.

Yet i love any single interactivity between every character especially in this episode but moreover the series in general. They are done both compelling, and balanced so well and still is located behind the lines. They never feel too much but still unleash a great amount of presence that keeps you enticing. Each character has different amount of knowledge and perspective on things. Good amounts of that substance are comparable and analogous towards us, the viewer.

Batwoman is a show that has always dealt with style over substance and "Initiate Self-Destruct" is a prime example of that. Episode 12 of season 2, "Initiate Self-Destruct" gets a 9,8 out of a 10.

Bad in so many ways
mluinstra18 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A couple cops walk into the bar and our girl asks "Can we help you officers?". They say that they are responding to a noise complaint, yet you can't hear any loud music or anything. A lady says they are having a fund raiser for some charity (of coarse they are) and the cops says "that explains it", and she asks "explains what?" He says it explains why you people are so loud. She obviously says "What do you mean 'You people'". There were other classic lines like that here as well, such as "This is Gotham City, there has to be a bigger crime than a bunch of black and brown folks dancing to some pop hits" and "god forbid too many of US gather together in one place". Then we get the more subtle lines like "I think it's important to have people of colour, especially black people, in law enforcement"

I already knew this show was terrible but I seen it while channel surfing and thought I would see if it had improved at all. Nope.

It's like they don't even bother telling a story anymore. They just preach to you now and try to work some silly story in there as an after thought. Terrible acting, silly looking fight scenes. This show has zero redeeming qualities yet it remains on the air. At some point these companies are going to get tired of losing money.

Kate Kane is back!
jacobhammer-291013 May 2021
While I'm a bit sad they didn't get Ruby Rose back for Kate Kane I can understand why they recast her. So many things I can't wait for, for Jacob no longer hiding he's using the snakebite and when Alice and Ryan find out Kate is actually alive!
