From Twilight to True Blood to The Vampire Diaries, the creatures of the night have climbed from their coffins to the heights of popular culture.
And it's against that backdrop that writer Shayne Leighton's debut novel, a vampire fantasy called Of Light and Darkness, has been picked up by Decadent Publishing with moves already afoot to turn it into a film. A video trailer for the book is featured below.
The book, set in modern-day Prague in the Czech Republic, will be released sometime this year and is planned as the first in a series of five. Leighton (pictured) believes that after other teen fantasy tales such as the Twilight and Harry Potter sagas conclude on screen, her work will stand a chance of filling the gap in the market and competing with the big guys.

Of Light and Darkness, a young adult fantasy novel set in the modern-day Czech Republic has been acquired by Decadent Publishing. The novel is based on the feature film currently in development.
Shayne Leighton states she is “…excited to announce that as of December 31st, Of Light and Darkness has been officially acquired by Decadent Publishing (http://decadentpublishing.com) and will be released sometime in 2011.” Leighton notes, “it will be the first in a series of five.” She believes that after the conclusions of other popular teen fantasies such as Harry Potter and Twilight, her independently-published stories will stand the chance of contending with the “big guys” and cause people to fall in love with a whole new cast of characters and creatures.
When Shayne graduated the Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr., School of the Arts in 2009, she did not anticipate the success to which her first feature film, The Incubus,...

I was working with the kids who were having some problems with their lines, couldn’t sing their songs correctly; Shayne could do everything right. She wasn’t someone I was working with. So we’re in the...
